A little about me in the school setting
My roles have allowed me to build on a range of areas that I have been interested in for some time. My focus on ‘pedagogy’ has been developed towards ‘praxis’ – the idea that one reflects and acts uponp ractice to transform it. What I have learnt is that a narrow focus on the classroom isn’t enough. Instead,an effective system is one which develops productive and synergistic relationships between learners,families, and the community, and that a deep understanding of the context in which you work, the locality and the culture in which learners live is crucial. I believe we have started on exciting journey here proceeding and developing positively on recent Ofsted feedback – building on those to ensure that learning really is a community endeavour in the best possible sense. My ‘curriculum’ will not stop at the door of a classroom, or the school gate but will be a transforming powerhouse for all living in the community. This, in practical terms could be parenting support in the form of coaching and peer support; providing evening classes in basic skills, parental revision classes to help them best assist their child. It could be using the school buildings as a base of local CPD provision, for meetings, for collaboration among local departments.
I have been a qualified teacher since 2009 and taught in a variety of state and private schools in Kent, London, and Surrey. I graduated from the University of Cambridge with a 2:1 in Theology and Religious Studies and was awarded my MA in 2010.

About the Lesson
I offer one, one and a half, and two-hour lessons, using questioning techniques to encourage deeper thinking and help students achieve top grades in English. My experience includes teaching a wide range of texts such as Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Much Ado About Nothing, The Sign of the Four, A Christmas Carol, An Inspector Calls, and poetry from the Power and Conflict and Love and Relationships anthologies. I have also served as an examiner, marking AQA English Literature Paper 2, and will be marking Language Paper 1 this year.

Music has been my life’s passion and being able to share that passion with others is the best job in the world! I have worked at various schools including special needs. In these organisations I have worked with young people including those on the autistic spectrum, those with behavioural learning problems and those suffering from mental health issues. I have always found it is key to strike up a good relationship with the young person, understand their problems and work with them to help them develop mentally and socially as well as helping them to gain the best outcome for themselves. I find this immensely rewarding.
I have led Maths departments at three of the schools that I have worked at. I have taught GCSE, IGCSE, GCSE Statistics and Functional Skills level 1 and 2 This entailed researching new Maths ideas including the Singapore method and the Complete Maths curriculum. I'm currently an undergrad at Newcastle University, studying the Classics. My passion is for Doctor Who and almost anything to do with classic sci-fi and horror. I'm autistic, diagnosed since the age of 14, and so I have many experiences with other autistics and I frequently helped out with the Special Educational Needs department at my high school/sixth form. I'm a published author of horror short stories, as well as having featured on panels at FantasyCon and SciFi Weekend, with more stuff in the works. My subjects at A-Level were English Lit. (AQA), Theatre Studies (Edexcel), and Religious Studies (OCR). My high school had an internal mentoring scheme, where I helped 2 GCSE students with their English, the skills for which help with Latin and Greek immensely. For Ancient Greek, I taught a GCSE student from scratch for about 2 years, and as such created resources from scratch and would adjust my lessons on a weekly basis. For Latin, I helped the same student on a regular basis with their Latin, but at A-Level I was also asked by my Head of Classics to help the Y8s who'd joined late in the term by taking them out of lessons and catching them up on thr basic Latin skills they'd have missed. At university, I have mentored 7 different students in GCSE English literature on a weekly basis, across a wide variety of texts. Additionally, my love for Classical languages and English extended to me doing JACT's Durham Summer School between L6 and U6. That, apart from being an enjoyable time in itself and which is highly recommendable, exposed me to a lot of different teaching styles, and gave me great in-depth knowledge of the languages and the culture.
