How TutorExtra UK works
TutorExtra is a place for parents or students to find the right tutor or service provider.
Our service is straightforward and simple. We provide quick access to thousands of experts and service providers, in over 1000 subjects across various fields, sorted by type, subject and location. You can customise your search, using a variety of filters, in order to satisfy your unique requirements. Then you can message your chosen provider(s) and arrange your sessions however it suits you – meet face to face, online or in-person (where possible), and via any online or offline platform.
We do not take any commission from lessons or services — this allows the advertisement of genuine prices!
We list private tutors, teachers and instructors, plus personal trainers, coaches, babysitters, nannies, schools, learning centres, childcare, daycare centres, sports, health centres and more, in your local area and online.

A basic registration with TutorExtra is free.
The TutorExtra website is funded solely by those users that take a low cost paid subscription — we take ZERO commission from lessons or services.
The payment for lessons or services is arranged separately and directly between the customer and the service provider.
Why activate a TutorExtra subscription plan?
Users with an active subscription can reply to messages.
To unlock private messaging replies and unrestricted communication between users, an active subscription plan is required by either the tutor/service provider or the parent/student.
As well as unlocking communication between users, each plan has a number of additional valuable features and benefits.
- Tutors/service providers with an active subscription can enhance and boost their listing on the site above free listings, unlock message replies, as well as allow parents/students to communicate directly inside and outside TutorExtra for free.
- Parents/students with an active subscription can access the tutor/service provider’s direct contact details and allow tutors/service providers on a basic free listing to reply to messages for free.
All plans and prices can be viewed once you have registered and logged in. Then go to the main dropdown menu located under your profile icon and name (upper right), click on Pricing, review the benefits on offer and choose the type of plan that suits you best.
VIP users receive the most benefits, the greatest exposure and feature highest in the TutorExtra search results.
The subscription plan fee selected is the only amount you will be charged for the benefits of using TutorExtra. There are no hidden charges whatsoever.
The more complete and detailed your profile, the more you will attract new enquiries. You may review and edit your account information at any time, using the Settings menu.
Populate your service provider profile and we will ADVERTISE your services.
In the Personal data section, you can enter your phone number, gender and date of birth. You can also add a photo to your account by selecting a file from your computer or device. See the Confidential section to choose the information that is made public.
In the Address section, when typing the first few letters of your postcode, you will see a drop-down list of all the addresses containing these characters. Alongside your postcode, enter your house number, street and town in order to find local listings easily, or for potential students and clients to find you.
Once you have confirmed all the information for your account, your location will be displayed on our dynamic map. You may also list just your town/city or even just your street, but if only the town is listed you will not show up on our map. If you have any difficulty finding your address, get help by pressing the “?” button or simply enter it in manually and we will find it for you.
Upgraded users should visit the Confidential section to choose the information that is made public.
Also in this section, please upload a valid DBS certificate and a profile picture. We find that listings with a professional profile picture visible on their profile attract many more visitors and enquiries.
You may enter the price of your lessons or cost of your service in the Price section of your account settings. You can also enter lesson duration and the appropriate age/level of your clients/students. Profiles with prices included get listed higher in searches above those that have not. The reason for this is that visible prices attract a greater number of enquiries.
And remember – TutorExtra does NOT charge a commission from your sessions or services! Instead we offer affordable subscription plans.
In the Education section, enter the school/university you last attended, the location of the educational establishment, your specialist subject, degree and degree class (if appropriate).
In the Certificate section, you can add scanned copies of your qualifications in .jpg or .png format.
Just below this section, there is an opportunity for you to write in more detail about your additional qualifications, experience and achievements. Please remember that the more information you include, the better your chance of attracting the right students or clients.
In the About you section, write a short description of yourself. In the detailed description, you can list additional methods of contact such as Whatsapp, LinkedIn, Facebook, website URL and other social media accounts.
In the Gallery section you can add photos of yourself in .jpg or .png format.
You can search TutorExtra by four separate criteria: subject, location/postcode, type of service (tutor, learning centre etc.) or the name of a specific organisation or person. Each of these criteria can be entered separately or combined together for more precise searches.
After you’ve entered your desired criteria, a filtered search is carried out. Results are displayed for users in two ways – a list and a dynamic map.
List mode displays the profiles of providers matching your criteria alongside a brief photo, activity/training, price, distance from your address and more.
The search can be refined dynamically using the filters located in the left panel – location, photo, gender, subject, experience, age and more.
Once you have specified the other criteria, you can choose the geographic location you wish to search. This filter is especially useful when searching by using our dynamic map.
Map mode is suitable for finding experts within a certain radius of a town/city, street or postcode.
When a location is used, approximate or exact addresses are mapped out and the positions of all providers that match the specified search parameters are displayed with markers. You may adjust the search distance in real time anywhere between half a mile and 64 miles, which allows extremely precise searches for providers in your area.
If a specific type of provider (e.g. home tutor, driving instructor, dance teacher) is not selected, then all the providers available in the area are displayed on the map. A single mouse click on a specific marker shows information about the provider. From there, you can contact them by filling in an enquiry form.
To get account views from the map, it is important to enter your street or postcode in the address fields (with or without house numbers).
Enquiry
You can send an enquiry to a registered user in TutorExtra with a single click on the message/query button when viewing their account.
In order to unlock private messaging replies and unrestricted communication between users, an active subscription plan is required by either the tutor/service provider or the parent/student.
Evaluation
In the account or profile of a particular user, you can submit an opinion using the “like” button underneath the profile picture of the user, or by rating them from 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest. You may modify your “likes” and “ratings” for any expert/organisation at any time.
