I have taught Chemistry at a large Leicestershire 14-18 School for over 30 years. I have been Head of Chemistry at this school for 20 years. I teach AQA GCSE Chemistry and AQA A-Level Chemistry. I have also taught Nuffield A-Level Chemistry. I have tutored AQA, EDEXCEL, OCR and OCR(Salters) A-Level Chemistry and AQA and OCR GCSE Chemistry. I have tutored students outside of school for 26 years with much success. Many of my A-level students have achieved 100% in A-level Chemistry modules and I have tutored many GCSE students who have achieved 100% in all their GCSE modules for GCSE Chemistry. I am also a Principal Examiner for IGCSE Chemistry. I have marked both Foundation and Higher IGCSE Chemistry papers. I have been an Examiner for Singapore A-level Chemistry. Both these roles have helped me to recognise the difficulties that students have with both GCSE and A-level examination questions and the way to answer them successfully. I use this knowledge to the students advantage in my lessons. I tutor online using Skype, Zoom, Teams and FaceTime which works really well. I have had many students who have gone on to study medicine and other medical degrees. I also write multiple choice GCSE Chemistry questions for an exam board.
My approach is variable depending on the ability of the student and what they are struggling on at the time. However I believe that the practicing of past paper questions is vital for examination success. It is the attention to detail which counts in an examination and I make sure all of my students know everything in the syllabus and have practiced lots of different styles of examination question. I tutor online using Skype, Zoom, Teams and FaceTime usually texting, emailing or messaging students examination practice questions which works really well. At the moment all my tutoring is online. Please get in touch with me if you are interested. It is a very successful way of tutoring.
I tutor students from all over the world. As well as tutoring many students in the UK at the moment I tutor students in Dubai, India, Italy, Australia and New Zealand.

I quickly build rapport with pupils and work out gaps in their learning and the best possible way to teach them what they need to know. My pupils range from year 1 pupils who need support with letter formation and phonics to students preparing for their English GCSEs. I love what I do and this motivates my students. They also grow in terms of confidence and independence too!
I work with pupils of all abilities and needs but have particular experience with SEMH children, neurodiverse children and those with literacy difficulties such as dyslexia.

My Journey From a Chinese Medicine student to a Chinese Language Tutor
Before embarking on my teaching career, I was studying Chinese Medicine, where I gained Chinese medicine theory and cultural insights to help people improve health in daily. Then I wanted to explore deep understanding of health worldwide. But I found out when I tried to explain the knowledge and theory of Chinese Medicine to foreign friends, they felt more like a myth. After then I found that there is a gap of understanding and explanation between English and Chinese language due to culture and thinking. And this sparked my passion for teaching languages. To understand the thinking and culture, language first.
Teaching Background
With years of experience in language education, I have developed a teaching methodology for Chinese language learning to be effective and understandable. My classes are tailored to meet the unique needs of each student, ensuring that they receive the support and guidance necessary to achieve their goals.
Teaching Philosophy
After I found out why people think Chinese medicine is a myth more than a theory and knowledge understanding, I got a solution for it: MAKE IT SIMPLE.
I believe in the power of minimalism. My teaching philosophy revolves around simplifying complex concepts and presenting them in an easy-to-understand manner. This approach helps my students grasp the intricacies of the Chinese language without feeling overwhelmed. By breaking down lessons into manageable parts, I ensure that learning remains fun and accessible.
Passion and Mission
Language learning is a deeply personal and transformative process. My mission is to make this journey as smooth and effective as possible for my students. I am passionate about helping people unlock the beauty and richness of the Chinese language and culture. Whether you are a beginner starting from scratch or an advanced learner looking to refine your skills, I am here to support you every step of the way.

My main experience is in KS2 (Years 4, 5 and 6) but am qualified for the whole Primary age range, 5- 11 years. In my experience as a Teacher, I have taught children with Dyslexia, children with Autism, children with Aspergers, children with social and emotional needs and looked after children.
My approach is very child centered. I look at celebrating the positives first and then gradually working through the harder bits, all at the child's pace, with a view to plugging any gaps so the child can celebrate success in their learning.
I teach in many different ways to appeal to the different learning styles (auditory, visual and kinaesthetic) and believe it is important to give the child a meaningful context to their learning (i. e relate it to everyday life).
