Hi! Thank you for considering me as your tutor.
My name is Tasmir. I am a graduate student at Oxford University, pursuing an MSc in Modern South Asian Studies. I graduated with high distinction in history from the Lahore University of Management Sciences and secured 3A*s and 1A in my A Levels. I have been teaching for nearly 7 years. I have taught students from across the world including those with learning disabilities. I have been taught in schools, students' homes, and online. I believe that teaching is about having an engaging conversation, responding to student needs, and going the extra mile. I have been honored to have been trusted to educate the minds of over 100 students in the last 7 years with over 90% of my students achieving As in their GCSE and A Level examinations. I currently teach EDEXCEL GCSE Psychology and AQA A-level Psychology. I am passionate about engaging students in the Psychology course and the wider world of Psychology. I have taught all aspects of these courses and the schools results for the subject are always higher than national average.
For the last two years I have also examined for AQA A-level Psychology.
I am currently into my second year of my part-time masters in Teaching and Learning at Oxford University in which I am running a project on how to help new sixth formers adapt to independent learning successfully.
In these current challenging times, I know students can feel behind on their work and I would be happy to help them revisit content they have covered during their time away from school or to revise and consolidate previous content covered.

About Me: Experience & Interests
Having qualified as a teacher in 2004, I have been teaching at Secondary level (including A Level) for 16 years. My first two years in the profession were spent teaching in Bassaleg School in Newport before moving to Oxfordshire 14 years ago, to teach in a comprehensive school in Abingdon. In 2008, I became Head of English, a role I held for 6 years prior to having children. I have been tutoring privately for the past 6 years, with tutees ranging from Year 5 to Year 11. My area of interest and expertise for tutoring has mainly focused on KS4, but I also have experience in tutoring younger students for their Year 6 SATS Exam and for the 13+ Grammar School examination. In my role as Head of English, I oversaw Literacy across the Curriculum Interventions and Developments as well as mentoring trainee interns and delivering professional development sessions to newly qualified teachers. As a mentor for the PGCE teacher-training course at The University of Oxford, I have also regularly assisted the university in interviewing applicants for their course. As an examiner for AQA Literature, I have had training in understanding the requirements of the new 2015 specification, as well as three years’ experience of grading exam scripts. I am also an assessor for the National Foundation for Educational Research, an independent provider of research in education. I have experience in teaching various exam boards including AQA, WJEC, Edexcel and IGCSE. In my spare time, I enjoy playing the violin and piano, going to the gym, swimming and skiing.
Qualifications
· First Class Honours in English Literature (BA) - University of Cardiff
· Master of Arts in English Literature – University of Cardiff
· PGCE in English - University of Oxford
· AQA English Literature Examiner
· NFER Assessor (English Language Writing Paper)
· DBS Checked
Approaches to Tutoring
Different students require different approaches to learning and so I work hard to tailor my sessions according to the needs of the student. In addition to one-to-one online tutoring, I also offer paired tuition (with someone of a similar age and ability) and small group tuition (Maximum of 6 per class). I offer term-time and holiday lessons: one-off sessions, short term or long term according to the needs of the student. Please send me a message if you would like further information and prices. Some areas that I normally focus on include:
· GCSE specimen and past paper questions
· Focus on a specific text/question
· Controlled Assessments / Coursework / Essays – planning, writing, proof-reading
· Achieving a Grade 4/5
· Achieving a Grade 8/9
· Analysis of set texts
· Addressing individual Assessment Objectives
· Any aspect of KS2 and KS3 Literacy including Year 6 SATS preparation

I'm passionate about all things English and will happily share this love with everyone eager and interested. I have experience in teaching both offline and online classes and individual students. I build my lessons around the needs of a particular group of learners/students taking into account strengths and areas for improvement. In my teaching, I rely on a communicative approach and use textbooks from leading publishing companies, such as Pearson, Oxford, and Macmillan and adapt them as necessary to address the needs of my learners. I'm also experienced in preparing young learners for their first Cambridge exams and helping individual learners prepare for B2 and CAE exams.
Being a CELTA-certified teacher, I use best practices in the framework of the communicative approach, help learners understand how they learn more effectively and am flexible and adaptable to address learners' needs.
