Kate is a British teacher & author. She attended an all-girls grammar school & graduated with a BA in English Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Kent. She went on to receive a Post Graduate Diploma & a Masters in Education.
For 10 years, Kate worked in Hong Kong as a NET (native English teacher), aiding Secondary Schools in establishing an English rich environment, promoting the love of reading & writing through language arts, as well as speech festivals and debate training. She is currently a freelance writer and private tutor.
As well as ESL teaching, her focus levels are also on GCSE & A Level (OCR, AQA, Edexcel), igcse, 11+, IELTS & HKDSE.
Some of her published work includes: Grade 1-Grade 3 Grammar textbooks for those learning English as a second language, a poetry collection “The Forgotten” & her fantasy novel “Caskets of Ice”.
In her spare time, you will catch her writing prose, promoting books on social media and reading, sometimes 7 books a month. Her love of literature knows no bounds! She currently acts as a rep for book companies such as Canterbury Classics, Country House Library, Bookdepository etc and has over 12k followers on IG.

Currently i am studying my masters jn Applied Linguistics and TESOL (Teaching English to the speakers of other languages) i have two years of experience. Hi, I am a second year student in Reading studying Primary Education with an English specialism. While my degree focuses on primary, I am a confident instructor all round when it comes to English literature, poetry analysis, and developing essay writing at various academic levels and in many academic subjects.

As a poet and creative writer, I use my skills to support my students' engagement in literacy, improve their reading and writing and find their enjoyment and self-expression in English. I also hold a first class degree in Psychology with Cognitive Neuroscience and am very happy to work with Psychology students to develop essay writing, psychological theory and statistics/research skills.
I can offer sessions based on phonetics, spelling, reading and writing, focusing on the student's particular needs and using their interests to engage them.
Alternatively for older children, children who have a particular interest in writing and for adults, I can offer bespoke sessions on creative writing and poetry. These sessions will improve the student's confidence, encourage self-expression and develop them into a creative and skilled writer.
I have worked with children and young people for 7 years in paid and volunteering roles, leading and facilitating workshops to develop English and creative skills. I have a lot of experience in a range of learning disabilities, both with children and adults. Sessions can be adapted for students with visual impairments, hard of hearing students, non-verbal students, and students with emotional disturbance or challenging behaviour. I will get to know them, their strengths and their needs, and offer sessions which work in accordance. I'm also experienced in Makaton and semi-experienced in BSL.
I hold an Enhanced DBS check and positive handling training for working with children with challenging behaviour.
I've had a strong enthusiasm for English for as long as I can remember. I remember writing stories when I was younger and would read them out in class. For this reason, it's no surprise that it was my best-achieved grade. After volunteering for a year with children, I developed a passion for helping and aiding people with their personal and academic development. I'd love to assist in helping you or your child to excel in your studies at school, and I'm ready to adapt to whatever learning style is best suited. I can offer a broad spectrum of assistance, first helping with the understanding of specific areas where improvement is required, and then later evolving into more challenging areas that will contribute to academic success in English. My lessons can range from revision to analysing poetry, novels and plays. For this reason, I believe that I am a candidate perfect for consideration!
About the Lesson
I offer one, one and a half, and two-hour lessons, using questioning techniques to encourage deeper thinking and help students achieve top grades in English. My experience includes teaching a wide range of texts such as Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Much Ado About Nothing, The Sign of the Four, A Christmas Carol, An Inspector Calls, and poetry from the Power and Conflict and Love and Relationships anthologies. I have also served as an examiner, marking AQA English Literature Paper 2, and will be marking Language Paper 1 this year.
