I am a professional violinist, violist and conductor, studying for a PhD in Music at the University of Cambridge. As a Supervisor in the Faculty of Music, I teach undergraduate music students at Cambridge. I also teach conducting, violin, viola, and chamber music at the Saffron Walden Centre for Young Musicians in Essex. With over nine years of tutoring experience, I also offer private tuition in violin, viola, orchestral conducting, music, music theory, philosophy, history, essay and dissertation skills, english literature, classical civilisation and violin performance.
From the age of 17, I have taught violin and viola to a variety of students, ranging from children and adults beginning their studies, to more advanced performers looking to improve their technical facility and performance skills.
Alongside my MPhil studies at Cambridge, in which I specialised in the cultural history and musical aesthetics of Germany and France in the Long Nineteenth Century, I began working as a freelance academic tutor, and taught Music, History, Philosophy, English Literature, Dissertation Skills, and Classics to A-Level Students. I have since developed two years’ experience, in which I have taught over 900+ hours of educational content with a diversity of tutoring organisations and online education platforms. I also have experience teaching in a classroom setting. I worked as an Assistant Music Teacher at a Sixth Form College, which involved teaching Music A-Level students. I have also worked with academic summer schools in Oxford to prepare Oxbridge hopefuls for their entrance examinations.
My academic expertise is strongest in the fields of the history of philosophy, the philosophy of music, and nineteenth-century music history. I am comfortable teaching both Violin and Viola, as well as Music, History, Philosophy and Writing Skills to final-year undergraduates. I also teach Classics and English Literature to a first-year undergraduate level, and I have intermediate reading skills in French.

Approach to Teaching
– I favour a structured approach to teaching. I devise lesson plans in advance of every lesson, catered to the student's specific needs. I also inform the design of my classes through a constructive dialogue with my students. This enables me to structure my lessons within a curriculum that meets my students' specific educational needs, and serves to enable my students to achieve tangible improvements in their academic performance and musical ability.
Academic Tuition
– My academic lessons tend to be structured around specific sections of the syllabus, or particular topics that students require help with.
– I employ a seminar style format, in which I flesh out ideas with the aid of quotations, other audio-visual resources, and analytical commentary which my students can use to develop essays, essay plans, revision tools, and exam revision packs.
– I use Powerpoint to provide students with a variety of resources and visual stimuli.
– I structure my lesson plans with a view to providing short points of rest or temporary closure, in which students are able to ask questions about the content. I am also happy for students to interrupt the flow of the lesson if a burning question arises.
Musical Performance
– Violin lessons tend to be carefully planned to focus on specific technical aspects of performance. To train musicality, I often teach this through the use of Kreutzer and Fiorillo etudes, Dont studies, and also pieces of repertoire catered to the student's musical interests and technical requirements.
– I am open to considering student repertoire suggestions if they are particularly passionate about a certain piece.
Lesson Structure
– Academic lessons tend to be 45–60 minutes in length, but I can adapt my teaching schedule to provide students with additional support if needed.
– Typically violin lessons range in length from 30 minutes to an hour, but I am flexible: I am more than happy to devise a lesson structure that caters for a student's requirements.

I have taught guitar in Sussex for 25 years, both privately and in schools, colleges and university. I help students with auditions, performances, music exams and just getting better at playing. Offering lessons in person or online, I have been performing professionally for 38 years and teaching for 26 years. I was initially taught piano by my grandfather, the renowned concert pianist and head of piano at RSAMD, Jack Wight www.*** I then completed my studies under Ms Anna Rastopchina. I currently play in an 8-piece function band as well as a jazz ensemble. I am also the musical director for shows held in the Clyde Auditorium and the Dumbarton theatre every spring. I teach piano & keyboard to all ages and stages. Roughly half my students study for the ABRSM piano grades, and so far my pupils (over 200 candidates) have a 100% pass rate. My other students play for enjoyment, learning various styles and technique. I also prepare students for the school curriculum Nat 4/5, Higher Music and Advanced Higher Music. I teach classical piano, jazz, pop, blues, music theory and composition. I tailor all lessons to the individual needs and aspirations of the student, employing various teaching styles. I also teach some pupils to play by ear, as well as improvisational skills, if requested. I prefer to teach from my own house, where I have a beautiful Yamaha U3 piano, as well as a Nord digital 88 piano, Roland Juno DS keybpoard/synthesizer, vintage Hammond organ and Leslie speaker and recording equipment. Lessons are generally an hour long, except for young students, where I would recommend a shorter lesson of 45 or 30 minutes. I teach to all ages, up to Grade 8 on the Drums, Grade 4 on the Guitar and on the Piano I will teach to a high standard, but not through the grading system as I only teach basic level sight reading for Piano.
I have taught many students over the years at varying ages and skill levels, and all have come out more passionate and more improved at there instrument.
My students have all mentioned how they find there lessons thoroughly productive and enjoyable, finding themselves increasingly motivated to play after having lessons with me. (see references at the bottom)
In my lessons I will take the students up through the Grades (ONLY for Drums and Guitar), via Rockschool, teaching them everything they need from technique, learning how to sight read, developing improvisation skills, playing in many different genres of music, and how to play by ear. I will also cover how to complement the music you are playing to and how to serve the music. As well as developing musicianship skills and how to have the right attitude in the music business.
- on the Piano I will teach to a high standard, going through everything listed above, as well as scales, arpeggios, inversions, learning classical and contemporary pieces, and basic level sight reading, but NOT grades unfortunately.

My name is Ginevra P., I am an italian pianist, accompanist, repetiteur and chamber musician based in Genova, Italy, since the virus pandemic outbrake. I am once again working as official Piano accompanist at the Genova’s Conservatoire N. Paganini, where I am pursuing a certification for teaching Music Education. I have spent the last four years in Birmingham, where I pursued a Master in Music and a post-master course PSP in Piano performance at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and I am currently looking for opportunities to work as a piano teacher in one to one and ensembles lessons.
My primary Goal as a teacher is to instil and broaden my students’ interest for music and to develop and ensure their music skills to be able to continue in their musical studies. Working hard as a private and scholastic piano teacher for ten years has been one of the most rewarding and inspiring experiences of my life whilst contemporarily allowing me to grow both professionally and as a person. Over the years I taught more than 30 students aged between six and seventy and I have adapted my teaching technique to the specific needs of each individual, considering differences in terms of age, instrumental practice level, music taste and personal Goals. Next to the piano practice, I spend much of my time studying the areas related to the music I play or simply enjoy, including history, philosophy, physics and classic literature. I am confident to say that knowledge will always enhance the musical qualities of any student. I would argue that a good teacher has to encourage each student to find personal connections between their music and their interests, guiding both their personal and interpretative growth. I think that this kind of ‘research study’, combined with technical practice, represents successful professional development both for the student and the teacher. I am a hard worker, and my teachers, such as Jan Loeffler and Pascal Nemirovski, have called me competent, empathetic and enthusiastic, all of which I would consider relevant qualities for teachers in a an environment of young students.
