I'm Zelal, an enthusiastic and dynamic tutor with a background in English Literature and singing. I have been teaching English Literature from primary to degree level for a number of years as well as instructing singers from beginner to intermediate level.
Whether you are interested in expanding your essay writing skills or your vocal range, I will be able to tailor lessons to suit your exact needs!
I believe learning is a fun adventure rather than something boring we have to do! My lessons are fun and informal - you will be expected to make lots of mistakes as this is how we learn! I look forward to going on this journey with you.

ABOUT ME:
Graduated from two degrees: BA (Hons) Jazz and Contemporary Music in Liceu Conservatory (Barcelona) + BA (Hons) Music Production & Performance in Solent University (UK). I've been working as a live musician, recording artist, session singer, songwriter, producer and studio coach for many signed recording artists including Fabbio (Universal Music). I have an extensive vocal training by renowned professionals both in the UK and Spain such as: Clarissa Land, David Phillips, Ian Davidson, Lee Loo, Helen Rowson, Miguel Manzo, and Yasmina Azlor. I've received intense training in the following renowned methods:
- Estill Voice Training (EVT) - Complete Vocal Technique (CVT) - Speech Level Singing (SLS)
My lessons are planned according to your objectives and needs. You'll notice improvement every week and enough material for your own practise in my online platform. In the first lesson, I'll lay out a plan on how we'll reach your goals together. Try in person lessons in my studio in West Kensington!
TECHNIQUE
You'll learn vocal technique in an understandable way that can be felt and controlled. I designed a technique course from my own experience after years of study, and teaching 100+ singers. The best knowledge from Estill Voice Training (EVT), Complete Vocal Technique (CVT) and Speech Level Singing (SLS) will be imparted.
You will realise that your whole body is involved in singing and you'll notice the drastic changes that make the proper understanding of larynx movements, breathing, posture, jaw, tongue, among others.
I will always make sure that you sing in a healthy way and never hurt your voice. No doubts will be left unresolved!
STYLE / ARTISTIC DEVELOPMENT
As you develop technique, we can work on defining your voice and musical style. We will improve the timbre and we will work on different stylistic resources and effects such as vibrato. We will identify and enhance the best of your voice, and we will work and develop new skills.
REPERTOIRE AND PERFORMANCE
We will tackle the songs you want to work on and you'll notice a big improvement as we work on them. You'll apply what we have learned and I'll identify problems that arise when singing your chosen music. If you want to record them professionally with quality sound, we will do it with my resources. (I am a professional producer).
ADDITIONAL SKILLS: SONGWRITING, PRODUCTION AND PIANO
Depending on your objectives, we can work on other musical aspects. Many students compose and want to learn more tools and tricks to compose more freely. Others want to accompany themselves on the piano better. I am also an active songwriter and composer, I learned from experts such as Paul Statham (Warner Chapell: Kylie Minogue, Dido). I am also a pianist. I can help you and give you the most practical tools to create music, sing it, and make work. Classes always have the option to add a dedicated piano extension, or songwriting and music theory, or production.

I studied classical vocal technique for 15 years with Howard Milner, and supplemented this with private language training (French and Russian), repertoire coaching with Floral Opera, Summer International Summer Music school (four years) and further training with Jeffrey Talbot and Neil Howlett. I worked as Area Leader for Sing Up in Lincolnshire and am currently the visiting singing teacher for a large secondary academy in Nottingham as well as being a vocal tutor at University of Lincoln. I have performed in professional opera companies in the UK, and performed recitals and gala concerts throughout the UK and in Northern Italy. I teach classical styles, as well as music theatre, jazz, folk, pop/rock.
I graduated a with a PhD in physical chemistry from the University of Birmingham, and can tutor chemistry, physics and mathematics in addition to music.

Some of the famous places in the UK I’ve performed at include Southwark Cathedral, Barbican Concert Hall, and Queen Elizabeth Hall. Additionally, I also studied in the Lee Strasberg Method and directed performances for the Travelling Opera Summer School. Whereas my own singing style is classical, my sessions apply to any style. My pupils are very important to me; I follow their progress with deep interest – how they develop their talents and go beyond their potential. To enrich my teaching skills and experience, I often collaborate with a psychotherapist and co-lead courses in self-esteem to give my students the added boost of confidently performing on stage. I am an Oxford graduate (Worcester College), with a degree in Literae Humaniores - Latin and Greek language and literature, as well as ancient and modern philosophy (BA 2013, MA 2016) I am also a professional classical singer and conductor, active around the UK. I am a Lay Vicar at Chichester Cathedral, where I sing professionally with the cathedral choir. My language teaching is based on the way in which classical languages are taught at Oxford, and I believe in the development both of analytical language skills and an instinct for the art of translation. For GCSE and A-Level, it is important for vocabulary and grammar to be secure, so I encourage a rigorous approach to language, but one that is interesting. I ask for a tutee to try their hardest - as long as they do, they will be met with an enthusiastic, patient, and understanding tutor, a tutor dedicated to his teaching and his pupil. It is vital to tailor sessions to the student, and I customise my lessons for each student I have based on their needs.
