Andrew Jays School of Music is a family run music school covering Surrey and South London. Our Principle, Andrew, graduated from The BRIT Performaing Arts and Technology College (Jessie J, Adele, Any Winehouse are past students) and is also a performing solo singer. We are pround to have passionate and talented teachers working alongside us, so our students also gain knowledge from their performance experience.
We hold exams with ABRSM and Trinity College London of which we have a 100% pass rate!

As a dedicated tutor with over 10 years of experience in piano and music theory, I have a huge appreciation for the intricacies of music and its ability to enrich lives. My journey in teaching began with a passion for sharing the beauty of melody and harmony, guiding students through the elegant dance of keys and notes. Each lesson is structured not only to impart technical skills but also to inspire creativity and a genuine love for music in my students. Whilst I am expert in teaching the ABRSM curriculum, I am also happy to teach those curious to learn outside the realm of exams and structured pieces! In addition to my musical expertise, I have spent the past five years nurturing young minds in key stage 2 English and maths. I bring a patient and engaging approach to the lesson, recognising that every child learns at their own pace. My lessons are infused with interactive activities and relatable examples, making complex concepts accessible and enjoyable. Whether exploring the rhythms of a sonata or unraveling the mysteries of grammar and numbers, my goal is to empower my students with confidence and knowledge, setting them on a path to success.

I have a composer with a vast knowledge of orchestration and a good knowledge of music technologies. In addition to Composition and Orchestration, which I teach at all levels, including the university level, I also teach Guitar, Piano and Music Technology at an advanced level.
I graduated from the University of Surrey in July 2023 with a 2:1 degree in BSc Business Economics. For my first two years, I studies BSc Mathematics and Economics but for my final year, I decided to change my degree to Business Economics since I had more of a passion for Business. I studied Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Economics for my A-Levels and scored ABB respectfully. I scored a grade 9 in GCSE Mathematics (A*) , grade 7 (A) in GCSE English Literature and Language and an A* in GCSE Further Mathematics, scoring 4A*s , 6As and 1B. Mathematics has always been my favourite subject and I also very much enjoy teaching it to other people. I also have a musical background, particularly within playing the piano and keyboard. I am a Grade 8 pianist and I am very close to completion. I am looking to tutor piano or keyboard for people who want to play for pleasure and I am not looking to teach grades or prepare anyone for examinations. I have 20 years experience in playing, performing and teaching the piano. It's my total belief that learning to play an instrument should be enjoyable, rewarding and can be taught to persons of any age.
I can teach from beginners to advanced level. My styles include Pop, Rock & Roll, Blues, Jazz, Boogie Woogie and Classical. ABRSM, Trinity & Rock School grades can all be taught. Offering lessons in person or online, I have been performing professionally for 38 years and teaching for 26 years. I was initially taught piano by my grandfather, the renowned concert pianist and head of piano at RSAMD, Jack Wight www.*** I then completed my studies under Ms Anna Rastopchina. I currently play in an 8-piece function band as well as a jazz ensemble. I am also the musical director for shows held in the Clyde Auditorium and the Dumbarton theatre every spring. I teach piano & keyboard to all ages and stages. Roughly half my students study for the ABRSM piano grades, and so far my pupils (over 200 candidates) have a 100% pass rate. My other students play for enjoyment, learning various styles and technique. I also prepare students for the school curriculum Nat 4/5, Higher Music and Advanced Higher Music. I teach classical piano, jazz, pop, blues, music theory and composition. I tailor all lessons to the individual needs and aspirations of the student, employing various teaching styles. I also teach some pupils to play by ear, as well as improvisational skills, if requested. I prefer to teach from my own house, where I have a beautiful Yamaha U3 piano, as well as a Nord digital 88 piano, Roland Juno DS keybpoard/synthesizer, vintage Hammond organ and Leslie speaker and recording equipment. Lessons are generally an hour long, except for young students, where I would recommend a shorter lesson of 45 or 30 minutes. I am a Head if Music who has taught curriculum music from ages 3 -18. I spent 7 years living in Spain and have taught Spanish alongside my music career. I also teach piano, singing and woodwind lessons and I am happy to teach up to A-level in both subjects.
