Hello, my name is James, a Montessori qualified educator, offering rich, creative, imaginative lessons drawing on years of experience as a teacher and consultant in order to bring the curriculum to life, each lesson tailored to the specific needs and interests of the child.
After co-founding my own Montessori childcare setting in Bristol, which I ran as the lead teacher for 3 and a half years, (2017 - 2020) I went on to offer webinars for parents and educators as a consultant with Montessori Centre International (2020-2021), the training college I completed my diploma with. I have continued working as an independent consultant in the period since, with specific focus on embedding the UN's Sustainable Development Goals into the curriculum in new and exciting ways, primariily for children aged 7+ through project based learning.
Drawing on Montessori Pedagogy and Philosophy I know through my own lived experience the entire curriculum can be successfully taught to the child by observing their interests and creating lessons that directly inspire their heart and imagination, increasing curiosiry and engagement in the classroom. E.g. if I observe a child of four with a fascination for dinosaurs I can use this as a jumping off point to teach Literacy, Storytelling, Phonics, Mathematics, Handwriting, Geography, Geology, Anatomy, Animal Kingdoms, Plant Kingdoms, Chemistry, History, and infinitum! All through a play based learning approach. Hi, I am currently a 2nd Year Medical Student at Keele University. In addition to this, I have also obtained a biomedical sciences degree with a first class honours from St George's University of London. I am based in London and have been tutoring online for over 4 years with a 100% pass rate. I offer A level biology tuition as well as GCSE triple and combined sciences or separate sciences as required. I offer a free 45 minute free trial session to get to know the student and show my teaching style, this allows me to build a relationship with each individual and tailor my sessions to this. I love teaching children and have always prioritised their education through each session by asking them what they would like to be taught. I also make it clear that I am able to answer any queries they have about the topic outside of sessions to provide them extra support that no other tutor does. I go over and beyond to understand my students and work alongside them by sending them topic checklists and plan each session according to their weakest topics. The structure of my sessions follows this: 30 minutes of taught content and 30 minutes of exam style questions. I ensure they apply their knowledge within the session as this prepares them for any and all mock/real exams throughout the year. I am patient, kind, and incredibly encouraging but have high expectations. I work with students for them to also gain high expectations in themselves. This may happen in the first few sessions or may take a longer period of time depending on the student.
I help students gain high expectations for themselves by initially giving tasks where they are guaranteed success, then celebrating and reflecting on this success and how they were able to use the skills taught and their effort to complete the task. This builds a persons confidence and significantly increases the likelihood of attempting more difficult tasks. This is heavily proven by research (and seen in my classroom daily) known as the “theory of self efficacy” and the “theory of planned behaviour”.
If a person does not believe a task is within their capability, they are incredibly unlikely to even attempt it (No matter how much we believe they can do it).
It is my job to SHOW students they can do it by designing tasks and lessons in a way that they feel challenged finish with pride in their achievements.
When teaching new skills I will show them first, then we will complete a task together, then they will apply the skills independently. I will be constantly assessing as they work independently and provide support where necessary. The ultimate goal is to phase back my support until they are using the taught skills correctly, consistently, confidently and independently.
Lessons will vary depending on students needs. If caregivers want to spend a percentage of the lesson to discuss, that will be agreed upon. If there are specific targets you want me to cover then we can dedicate time for you to tell me these expectations. If you would prefer me to assess your student and gage where the gaps are and plan accordingly, that is also ok.

I have implemented findings from in-house and exam board CPD to update my practice and to share with my department, particularly as the teacher responsible for the GCSE course at my current school. Ideally, after analysing performance across all papers in the last summer exam series I would like to complete further CPD this year about the areas of weakness to further improve how I deliver lessons and additional support, as well and helping learners to be increasingly independent.
Fieldwork is an area I thoroughly enjoy, particularly urban and coastal fieldwork. I continue to design and deliver fieldwork for our GCSE and A-level students, incorporating guidance from the exam board about best practice, new ideas and subject updates each year.
