In the summer of 2018 I received a Master’s degree in Taiwan and Asia Pacific Studies from Tamkang University, and successfully undertook a CELTA course soon afterwards. I completed a 120 hour TEFL course in 2012, and graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor’s degree in History.
Between February and December 2020 I worked as a Learning Support Assistant at the London Nautical School. I assisted teachers with students who were in a number of different academic years, in a range of subjects. Students at this school came from a range of social and cultural backgrounds. I was responsible for helping students with learning difficulties, and those whose first language wasn’t English. I taught them reading, conversation and grammar skills. I also assisted teachers in managing and teaching entire classes of students.
Before this I was a History teacher for a number of Year 7, 8, 9, and 10 classes at St Albans Girls' School. Students at this school come from a range of social and cultural backgrounds. The school works hard to improve attainment in numeracy and literacy and has clear teaching methods in place to achieve this. The head of department produced lesson plans which all other teachers could use, but from the beginning I made changes to these, and added my own material, in order to adapt them to my own style of teaching.
I have extensive experience in teaching English, as a result of being employed as an English Editor at Kasetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand, between 2012 and 2015. My job at this organisation required me to conduct instruction in a wide range of different courses, and to interact with diverse groups of students. I am confident that I can apply the experience I have gained to any given classroom environment.
I have also worked at the Imperial War Museum in London in a voluntary capacity at weekends. This involved helping to make the exhibits easy to appreciate and use for visitors of all nationalities and sharing the expertise that I have built up regarding this period of history. This allowed me to share my passion for history with others.

Hello, thank you for taking a careful look at my experience. I've taught for many years, many subjects, and in many countries. I've specifically taught preparation courses for the ACT and SAT, the American university entrance exams. I've also taught Chinese students to prepare for their highly competitive mathematics competitions. I've designed special course work, techniques, IEPs, and materials to meet a student's particular and profound learning disability (his mother said that of all the teachers, I made the most progress). My first tutoree came to me with an "F" in university calculus and I got her up to a "B-". I've taught all English levels and mathematical talents to students from all over Asia, Europe, North America, and South America. I know how to ask questions to reveal misconceptions and how to find evidence of understanding. I understand maths anxiety, how teach the approach to a problem and not just how to get an answer. I've written songs to help students remember the quadratic formula and trigonometric functions of which students have testified that they sang in their head while taking the SAT. I've invented games to develop maths concepts that students couldn't stop playing. I've developed coursework on mathematical psychology and game theory as part of a holistic curriculum which fascinated students. I've had years and years of PDs (Professional Development) from many schools in many countries. I'm familiar with the variety pedagogical philosophies and have more specifically given presentations on Deep Learning, Brain Based Learning, and holistic curricula. I have briefly taught in a Montessori school and am familiar with some of those alternative approaches as well. As a mathematician I've independently contributed to many proofs, techniques, an discoveries relating to Pythagorean relationships, Phi, Pi definitions, the complex number plane, analytic geometry, trigonometric identities, and geometric construction, and others. I am currently familiarizing myself with Ofsted standards. Before I've been accountable to US Common Core Standards, and the AERO standards.

I have lived in Italy for 30 years where I taught English as a second language. I am fluent in Italian after living there for all this time.
I am a Spanish teacher with 5 years experience teaching a variety of year groups from year 7-13 in Spanish and year 7-11 in French. I have 5 years experience teaching Spanish KS3, GCSE and A level and teaching French KS3 and GCSE.

Of course, a massive part of my job is to help and alleviate your completely normal anxiety in answering exam questions under tough conditions, and being able to tackle new and unfamiliar problems. My approach is based on 14 years’ experience that the best kind of learning happens in a state of flow or play! :) As a result, I always aim for a fun environment of respect in which the student is facilitated to make novel connections for themselves. My experience has been that one-to-one personal tuition has unique value to students because of my ability to innovatively resolve students’ personal barriers to absorbing new concepts in a way that lays the foundations for a profound future understanding of the subject. My approach does vary according to the student’s needs and learning style. However, my teaching philosophy is based on self-discovery, using real-world examples wherever possible as ultimately you are the self-teacher. I start from topics you are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as your confidence builds. I use questions and examples to concept check continually. I don’t like lecture to students or ask them to memorise their way out. Nor do I do the students’ homework for them but I can help you with it!
I am a highly qualified and experienced teacher of German, currently teaching GCSE German privately, having recently taught both A level and GCSE at a girls' grammar school, and an independent school, achieving a high exam success rate (100% A-A* at the grammar school, and 100% Grades 7-9 in my last year at the independent school in 2020).
