With over 30 years of classroom, strategic, managerial, examination and assessment experience, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to tutoring your child/you. Tutoring is all about focusing the student on exactly what the question/task demands and demystifying the process, opening up possibilities and developing intellectual curiosity.
In my most recent school, one class had a value added score of +2.07. Across the entire GCSE cohort, 87% G9-G4 achieved, from a predicted 54%.
Before we start the tutoring, I carry out an audit of what knowledge and understanding of content there is, plus learning about the obstacles you face, what perceptions hold you back and finding out what kind of learner you are.
I will listen really carefully to what you need and will offer a plan to help you progress and move forward. Similarly, if I can't help, I will inform you of this too. It's really important that we get on.
Every student/learner is different; every backstory is unique. Many students have barriers; sometimes reassurance and pointing in the right direction will suffice.
Some years ago, I tutored a student on a Saturday morning. He was a bright and a very able science/maths learner (straight As at GCSE) yet could not handle English or Literature and this was clearly holding him back (both his own self-esteem and his grades). It took a few weeks to instill a new way of apporaching the texts/writing, but once we applied a 'scientific approach' to analysis, it completely revolutinised his way of working. (He moved from a D to an A in four months of being with me, by the way!)
That was not a one-off. My recent tutoring has enabled me to accelerate learners way beyond what they thought they were capable of. Tutees are at the centre of the experince and it is all focused on them. I have an excellent interpersonal style, which is firm and fair, with a strong sense of agenda and coverage. We will go over things, revisiting to reinforce previous learning and to create the space where the tutee feels more independent and able to move forward without support. When a tutee says "I think I'm good from here!" I take that as a moment of great success!

I trained at the Oxford School of Drama from 2002 to 2005. As a professional actor, I've appeared in major TV, Film and Theatre productions in the UK, the US and Canada. My work on Supernatural, Psych and A Christmas Prince 1 & 2 can currently be viewed on Netflix. Prior to appearing on TV and Film, I spent 8 years working regularly in UK Theatre.
I have extensive experience working in corporate training and facilitation. In 2015 I joined a leading London-based communication skills company, departing to work independently in 2016. He has since conducted over 1000 hours of one-to-one and group communication training.

My teaching career began over two decades ago. I spent six happy years at the ArtsEd Drama School in Chiswick, where, rather serendipitously, I assumed the reins of responsibility from MY drama teacher! Formerly an Advanced Skills Teacher for Drama and Performing Arts, I was appointed as a Senior Lead Practitioner for Creativity in 2019. My first degree was in English Literature at Southampton. This was followed by a PGCE in Drama and English from the Institute of Education, and another PGCE in Directing Text with Young People, before moving on to my Masters in Education (Drama) working with the University of Middlesex and Trestle Theatre.

I am a Master's graduate and classically trained singer who is an experienced performer within theatre and classical music. I currently work as a freelance educator with a rounded expertise in many areas of employment, predominantly as a teacher of the Performing Arts. I have worked as a teacher of Drama, Voice and Communications at a well known private school and as a private Performing Arts coach for multiple schools and companies. I operate predominantly as a self-employed person within businesses and schools and I am therefore responsible for all of my own administration and organisation as well as liaising with these various institutions.
I also hold Alevels in both French and German and speak both of these languages to a fairly advanced level.
One of my most rewarding roles was working with NCS with The Challenge as both a Performing Arts Tutor and Public Speaking Coach. In the first role, I was able to teach performing arts and devising work to GCSE leavers in areas of London, and I enabled them to use their newfound skills to liaise and work with local charities creating new devised performances every week, which would then lead to a collaborative project to enable them to give back to their local community.
I teach English, Drama, Media, and Film across Key Stage 3 -5 and have run departments across three years. In the industry I have produced over 100 events in theatre across London and the United Kingdom. In film I have produced ten short films garnering numerous awards at over 100 festivals. True Self Coaching began as a yoga retreat business and has blossomed over the years into a consulting business which includes yoga classes and workshops, a signature meditation program, spiritual coaching, voice and art lessons, and original artwork.
