I am a professional violinist, violist and conductor, studying for a PhD in Music at the University of Cambridge. As a Supervisor in the Faculty of Music, I teach undergraduate music students at Cambridge. I also teach conducting, violin, viola, and chamber music at the Saffron Walden Centre for Young Musicians in Essex. With over nine years of tutoring experience, I also offer private tuition in violin, viola, orchestral conducting, music, music theory, philosophy, history, essay and dissertation skills, english literature, classical civilisation and violin performance.
From the age of 17, I have taught violin and viola to a variety of students, ranging from children and adults beginning their studies, to more advanced performers looking to improve their technical facility and performance skills.
Alongside my MPhil studies at Cambridge, in which I specialised in the cultural history and musical aesthetics of Germany and France in the Long Nineteenth Century, I began working as a freelance academic tutor, and taught Music, History, Philosophy, English Literature, Dissertation Skills, and Classics to A-Level Students. I have since developed two years’ experience, in which I have taught over 900+ hours of educational content with a diversity of tutoring organisations and online education platforms. I also have experience teaching in a classroom setting. I worked as an Assistant Music Teacher at a Sixth Form College, which involved teaching Music A-Level students. I have also worked with academic summer schools in Oxford to prepare Oxbridge hopefuls for their entrance examinations.
My academic expertise is strongest in the fields of the history of philosophy, the philosophy of music, and nineteenth-century music history. I am comfortable teaching both Violin and Viola, as well as Music, History, Philosophy and Writing Skills to final-year undergraduates. I also teach Classics and English Literature to a first-year undergraduate level, and I have intermediate reading skills in French.

Approach to Teaching
– I favour a structured approach to teaching. I devise lesson plans in advance of every lesson, catered to the student's specific needs. I also inform the design of my classes through a constructive dialogue with my students. This enables me to structure my lessons within a curriculum that meets my students' specific educational needs, and serves to enable my students to achieve tangible improvements in their academic performance and musical ability.
Academic Tuition
– My academic lessons tend to be structured around specific sections of the syllabus, or particular topics that students require help with.
– I employ a seminar style format, in which I flesh out ideas with the aid of quotations, other audio-visual resources, and analytical commentary which my students can use to develop essays, essay plans, revision tools, and exam revision packs.
– I use Powerpoint to provide students with a variety of resources and visual stimuli.
– I structure my lesson plans with a view to providing short points of rest or temporary closure, in which students are able to ask questions about the content. I am also happy for students to interrupt the flow of the lesson if a burning question arises.
Musical Performance
– Violin lessons tend to be carefully planned to focus on specific technical aspects of performance. To train musicality, I often teach this through the use of Kreutzer and Fiorillo etudes, Dont studies, and also pieces of repertoire catered to the student's musical interests and technical requirements.
– I am open to considering student repertoire suggestions if they are particularly passionate about a certain piece.
Lesson Structure
– Academic lessons tend to be 45–60 minutes in length, but I can adapt my teaching schedule to provide students with additional support if needed.
– Typically violin lessons range in length from 30 minutes to an hour, but I am flexible: I am more than happy to devise a lesson structure that caters for a student's requirements.

I have taught instrumental music to a wide range of ages including adults. I teach most instruments, including theory of music, and believe that music should be enjoyed in which case I teach towards ABRSM and British College of Accordionists examinations in addition to supplementing this with playing for pleasure and enjoyment music. My experience is that individuals should be taught according to their individual learning style and therefore I adapt my teaching style to match the age, stage, interest and needs of the students which means that if the student wants to learn for pure enjoyment then examinations may not be considered.

I have been drumming since the age of 9, and since picking up the sticks I have played a number of shows, events, live gigs, pub nights and so on. This has helped me develop my confidence skills on stage as well as improve my musical skills.
Venues/ events I have performed at include The M Festival in St Albans. I have played this event 5 times with the biggest audience being over 3000 people. This is a great event as they put all kinds of upcoming bands on their line up to really let people show off their great music.
Other venues include the Alban Arena in St Albans, and The Horn pub in St Albans.
The Horn have hosted some very memorable nights, with bands such as Bastille playing headline shows in the past. Other bands such as Vant have played The Horn, with my band, Echo Infirmary, being the support act.

Hey, My name is Jack, I have played guitar for over 5 years and have studied at all levels in music from GCSE-University. I have performed at various venues such as the Globe theatre in Cardiff, I look forward to teaching anyone guitar lessons.
Joe began his musical journey at the age of six. Initially following the classical tradition, he completed his Grade 8 qualification before applying for higher education. Joe studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama between 2014 and 2016, under Mei Yi Foo. This period saw development in his command of the instrument and skills in accompaniment, solo, and chamber performance.
Forever drawn to a range of genres, an interest in jazz music naturally emerged. Joe joined the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire jazz programme in 2018, where he studied 1:1 with John Turville and Liam Noble. He also received band coaching from tutors such as John O’Gallagher and Percy Pursglove. These experiences helped to shape his approach to harmony, improvisation, and group playing. Joe continues to study and explore jazz theory in his own time.

Claudia is a classical pianist, singer, teacher and performer. Her passion for music started at the age of 4 when she enrolled on the Yamaha Programme and went on to complete the JMC, JXC and JAC courses. As well as her piano qualifications, she also studied classical violin, voice and recorder, gaining several awards at musical festivals/concerts, Worthing and Chichester music festivals, and also studied the flute. Claudia went on to complete a BA, then her Masters in Music at Chichester University, while also gaining useful teaching experience through the West Sussex Music Service.
Claudia joined Matrix Arts Centre in 2015 after completing her Masters Degree, teaching the Junior Music Course and also taking individual piano lessons. She is passionate about her teaching and believes that music education is very important in the early development of young children. She plays for the Abingdon Community Orchestra, at church services and in the choir at St. Edmunds Church, Abingdon.

London-based Slovenian violinist and composer Katarina K. (born 1993) recently graduated in BMus Composition with a first class honours, and in MMus Performance with distinction. In May 2016 she also gained the Fellowship of the London College of Music award and received the Mona Blackman Scholarship.
Katarina began learning the violin at the age of six and has performed with many different musicians and orchestras all around Europe and Minnesota, USA. She has attended masterclasses and festivals as an active participant with world’s leading professors and won several prizes at international competitions.
Besides being an active concert violinist and performing as first violin in the Belgard String Quartet, she is pursuing a career in film composition, and in violin teaching. Her performance venues include some of the main Slovenian concert halls, as well as St. Barnabas Church in Ealing, Acton Hill Church, Cadogan Hall in London, Tower Bridge Walkways, and performances within the Ealing Film and Music Festival.
As a composer, Katarina’s pieces have been performed by LCM students, the LCM String Ensemble, and in January 2015 her piece ‘The Sixth Element’ for string orchestra was performed at the Gala Concert of the Crescendo Music Festival in Florida. Her piece ‘Tunisian Crochet’, which was premiered by the Camerata orchestra, won the LCM Composition Competition. Katarina recently composed music for Melies’ film Trip to the Moon, including a large symphonic orchestra, for which she received an exceptional mark.
I have acquired a wealth of experience within the music business, with a semi-professional involvement that has spanned over thirty years. I didn’t pick up the electric guitar until I was seventeen, but I was playing in a band within six months due to my obsession and methodical self-teaching.
I now play several related instruments i. e. acoustic guitar, bass, banjo, ukulele, mandolin and the diatonic harmonica. I offer lessons on all these instruments.
I became a music teacher at a relatively late stage in my career, in fact it happened almost by accident! I had just been made redundant from an engineering position, and was killing time in a local music shop by trying out a guitar (October 2002). The proprietor was evidently impressed with my playing, because he asked if I was interested in taking on students. My first students were all originally customers of this shop (Muzart, in Bishop’s Stortford). Another local music shop in Harlow (Tones) has also been kind enough to allow me to advertise in their premises for students. I have since become a member of the Registry of Guitar Tutors. and the Musicians Union.

Offering lessons in person or online, I have been performing professionally for 38 years and teaching for 26 years. I was initially taught piano by my grandfather, the renowned concert pianist and head of piano at RSAMD, Jack Wight www.*** I then completed my studies under Ms Anna Rastopchina. I currently play in an 8-piece function band as well as a jazz ensemble. I am also the musical director for shows held in the Clyde Auditorium and the Dumbarton theatre every spring. I teach piano & keyboard to all ages and stages. Roughly half my students study for the ABRSM piano grades, and so far my pupils (over 200 candidates) have a 100% pass rate. My other students play for enjoyment, learning various styles and technique. I also prepare students for the school curriculum Nat 4/5, Higher Music and Advanced Higher Music. I teach classical piano, jazz, pop, blues, music theory and composition. I tailor all lessons to the individual needs and aspirations of the student, employing various teaching styles. I also teach some pupils to play by ear, as well as improvisational skills, if requested. I prefer to teach from my own house, where I have a beautiful Yamaha U3 piano, as well as a Nord digital 88 piano, Roland Juno DS keybpoard/synthesizer, vintage Hammond organ and Leslie speaker and recording equipment. Lessons are generally an hour long, except for young students, where I would recommend a shorter lesson of 45 or 30 minutes. I have recently completed a BA in Music at the University of Lincoln and am now studying for a Master's degree in Musicology at the University of Edinburgh. I have played the violin for 15 years and am open to students of any age/ability.
Main instrument is violin but can also teach ukulele. I'm happy to help prepare for any GCSE or A Level exams in terms of theory and history. I can also help with performance anxiety and techniques.

I am Marty, I am the Owner/Director and one of the tutors at Double M Studios.
I decided to launch DMS due to the passion I have for music and to make it a platform to be able to offer opportunities to students and adult learners that they may not be able to get anywhere else.
Music has been part of my life for a very long time. I was lucky enough to have two of the most amazing guitar tutors that anybody could have asked for. One of which became a very big inspiration for what I am doing now.
