Media Studies Tutor, Teacher
With over 30 years of classroom, strategic, managerial, examination and assessment experience, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to tutoring your child/you. Tutoring is all about focusing the student on exactly what the question/task demands and demystifying the process, opening up possibilities and developing intellectual curiosity.
Before we start the tutoring, I carry out an audit of what knowledge and understanding of content there is, plus learning about the obstacles you face, what perceptions hold you back and generally finding out what kind of learner you are.
I will listen really carefully to what you need and will offer a plan to help you progress and move forward. Similarly, if I can't help, I will inform you of this too. It's really important that we get on.
Every student/learner is different; every backstory is unique. Many students have barriers; sometimes reassurance and pointing in the right direction will suffice.
Some years ago, I tutored a student on a Saturday morning. He was a bright and a very able science learner (straight As at GCSE) yet could not handle English or Literature and this was clearly holding him back (both his own self-esteem and his grades). It took a few weeks to instill a new way of apporaching the texts/writing, but once we applied a 'scientific approach' to analysis, it completely revolutinised his way of working. (He moved from a D to an A in four months of being with me, by the way!)
That was not a one-off. My recent tutoring has enabled me to accelerate learners way beyond what they thought they were capable of. Tutees are at the centre of the experince and it is all focused on them. I have an excellent interpersonal style, which is firm and fair, with a strong sense of agenda and coverage. We will go over things, revisiting to reinforce previous learning and to create the space where the tutee feels more independent and able to move forward without support. When a tutee says "I think I'm good from here!" I take that as a moment of great success!
Whether it's GCSE, A Level, BTEC or degree level, I will commit to working with you to make great progress.

I am a dedicated and experienced tutor with a strong academic background in Macroeconomics, Media Studies, and Political Science. I recently graduated with a triple major in Economics, Media Studies, and Political Science and am currently pursuing an MSc in Politics and Communication at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), ranked among the top institutions globally for media and social sciences.
Throughout my academic journey, I have consistently excelled in these subjects, achieving A and A+ grades in media and marketing communications courses while honing my expertise in economics and political science. My diverse academic training equips me to provide students with in-depth knowledge and a multidisciplinary approach to learning.
I also bring hands-on experience in teaching and mentoring. As the Media Director of my undergraduate campus media house, I guided students in developing creative and analytical skills. Additionally, my professional experience, which includes working on media campaigns, political communication strategies, and research projects, allows me to offer real-world perspectives that enrich the learning experience.
I believe in fostering an interactive and engaging environment that encourages critical thinking and makes complex concepts accessible. My approach is adaptable to each student’s unique learning needs, ensuring they not only achieve academic success but also develop a deeper interest in the subjects.
With my strong foundation and passion for education, I am eager to contribute to your team and help students excel in their academic pursuits.

I am a highly skilled Secondary School teacher of English and Head of Media Studies, with 15 years' experience teaching at Key Stage 3, 4, GCSE and A Level in both English Literature, English Language and A Level Media Studies. I've had the joy of seeing my students go on to study both subjects at university, keep in touch and even send me their university essays and degree dissertations as proof of their continued enthusiasm for both English and Media Studies.
Having taught first for five years in Swakeley's School, an excellent comprehensive school in Hillingdon, and then spent the last 10 years teaching at the excellent St Mary's School for Girls in Gerrards Cross, I have gathered a huge amount of experience teaching both large and small groups, and, particularly at A Level, tutoring small groups of between 2-8 students.
I love communicating my passion for reading, for literature, for fluent and accurate written communication and for the power of words and other media to inform, educate and entertain us, and watching young people appreciate that power and want to emulate it themselves.
Recently I have enjoyed teaching and tutoring online via Teams and Zoom, building up a whole host of new skills and finding the joy of enabling young people to learn just as (or even more) effectively from home as they have done in a school environment. The power of one-to-one teaching should not be underestimated - a huge amount can be achieved with this close attention to the needs of an individual.

Hello, I am a university student studying in the heart of London. I was born and raised in London and experienced great success at school and at university due to amazing and unforgettable teachers. This is the foundation of my commitment to helping out my students, whatever their abilities may be. Currently, I am studying a bachelor Honours degree specialising in History. I have been tutoring and teaching for 3 years in various settings – tutoring small and large groups, private individual tutoring, and teaching in rural, suburban, and urban classroom and home settings.
I pride myself on my excellent communication skills and friendly demeanour. I endeavour to tutor seriously although I`m naturally quite a laid-back person, which is quickly recognised by pupils and puts them at ease. I also relate well to pupils because the age gap is not so large. Students often look forward to our lessons, which they say motivates them and helps them to learn. I really value getting to know my students individually and enjoy learning from them through conversation. I provide textbook recommendations and I can be very flexible with lesson days. Past parents and students echo my sentiments, as proven by reviews.
