As a Head of the Languages Department and Primary and Secondary Teacher in a school in Leighton Buzzard for over 10 years, I believe I am the right language tutor for you!
I'm fluent in Spanish, ( my native language) French, and English and have spent many years teaching and studying languages. I completed a bachelor's degree in Spanish and English at Manchester/ALmeria University (2008) and studied Spanish and English Literature in school (GCSE and A-Level) so I know how daunting grammar can sometimes feel and how stressful language/literature exams can be... but also how great it feels when you finally start getting it!
On the language side of things, I can help you with your writing, listening, speaking, grammar, and exam technique. I can help you with conversational skills if you're just looking to go traveling or make Spanish/French friends.
On the literature side of things, a large part of my degree was literature-based, so I would be very happy to help any Literature students if you are struggling with the subject.
If you're in school and really want to get an A/A* (7/8/9), I can make sure you achieve your goal. Whatever your current grade, an A/ A*/7/8/9 is achievable. I have taught these exams for many years so I know how they work and how you can do well in them. We will work closely with the syllabus and go through some secrets of exam technique to make sure you get a top grade.
Alternatively, if you're wanting to learn languages for travel or business purposes (or just for fun!) we can tailor the lessons 100% to suit your needs. I also teach courses to adults from beginners to advanced and I always tailored to each student's need. I also teach English to foreigners to achieve the Cambridge Examinations ( A1 to C1).
I effectively deliver and plan online outstanding lessons and the feedback that I have received from parents, pupils, and adult learners have always been very stimulating. I strongly believe in the student centered-approach as always shown in my lesson plans. I believe that all students are individuals with very specific needs so differentiation has always been at the forefront of my teaching practice. I find it very important to address any students’ needs in order to get the best potential out of every single student. I am successful in establishing high expectations of behavior in the classroom whilst still developing positive relationships with my classes.
I love online teaching as well as face to face. I have been doing online experience for the last 5 years and I have helped most of my students to achieve an excellent language level. I use Google Meets, Google Classroom, or even Skype for online teaching. I generally send and post great, fun, and genuine resources so that the student can access them easily and successfully. There are so many fun online resources that I could provide you to enhance your language skills, especially in Speaking; what a great way to speak the language with a native speaker! You will also gain a broad cultural awareness and your fluency and pronunciation will speed up!
Contact me and ask what it is that you need and I will make sure you will get the best of your language skills!
On the other hand, I am a 200hr yoga certified instructor for the last 2 years and I can give you online 1-1 lessons from beginners to more advanced practitioners. I can also give the online yoga class via zoom to you and your whole family! If you have children, you will be glad to know that I have trained to teach kids yoga and I have been organizing yoga workshops in primary and secondary schools.

MagiKats Maths & English Stevenage
School, Learning Centre
|
Welcome to MagiKats at Stevenage, where we welcome new students throughout the year. The centres cater for children aged 4 - 16. Whether your child requires extension work, skill consolidation or remedial support - we can help.
Seeing how pupils learn in school and the size of classes, I can see the need for some children to have immediate help with topics they are covering in school, plus a chance to fill the gaps in their learning of basic skills. I found that the MagiKats approach does just that; in weekly workshops students cover age appropriate work, whilst five short pieces of homework each week address basic skills. For example, a student might be working on fractions in the workshop whilst brushing up on times tables at home.
I am enthusiastic about MagiKats because work is set to meet the students' needs on an individual basis, thus making each programme unique. Following your enquiry, I can normally carry out a placement test within a couple of weeks, after which your child is welcome to start attending workshops almost immediately. I hope that you find the information here clear and easy to understand. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
You can contact me through this website, by e-mail, or telephone. I am in the office during most mornings, but am often teaching in the afternoons. However if I am unavailable please leave a message on my answerphone and I will call you back.
I do hope that you find the information here clear and easy to understand. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

I enjoy working creatively with children and I am aware of the different mind friendly learning techniques that can be used to facilitate effective learning. I incorporate these techniques into my www.*** ;I believe that children need a firm foundation in basic literacy and numeracy skills in order to be able to flourish in other areas of the www.*** ;I understand that continuity and progression in learning is vital and my planning and teaching reflect this.

Here at EmpowerOwl we aim to EMPOWER young minds. Not cram their heads with just information to pass their exams. Its important for our students to get their grades but whats even more important is teaching them how to use their knowledge in the real world and utilise it so that they can achieve any goal they set their mind to. We don't teach to pass, we teach to succeed.

First Class Learning Bushey
School, Learning Centre

One of our First Class Learning tutors will meet with you to discuss how we can help your child with Maths or English. They will then sit down with your child and complete an assessment to determine which path is most suitable for them. Once we have established your child’s needs, we will put together a bespoke course of action that will support and encourage your child’s learning.
If you feel happy with our plan and that we are the best option for you and your child, they will then be able to start attending regular classes at the centre. In these classes, they will complete a short piece of work which will be marked, returned and discussed with the tutor, who will give them a detailed programme of homework to be completed before the next class.

I entered tuition in 2010 as part of the then governments' program of tuition boosting to secondary pupils who were underachieving. This included two terms during 2010 at Marriotts School in Stevenage tutoring in English, nearly two years at Stanborough School in Welwyn tutoring in English & maths and a one-term return to Marriots School up till Easter 2013. After that, I worked more part-time for a variety of employers, including Regent College from 2014-18, Tutor Doctor 2014-20, and most recently for Prospero Education since early 2019. I have especially taught students at KS 2 & 3, but have done some work at KS 1 and GCSE maths [as I possess A-Level Maths myself]. I am keen to build on this diverse tuition background with new challenges at all levels in the future.

I grew up and completed all my schooling in north London, in the beautiful suburb of East Finchley – home of one of the oldest cinemas in England and the UK Head Office of McDonalds! Graduating in Psychology from Bristol University in 2000 led me to further my interest in cognitive and developmental psychology by completing an MSc in Child Development at the Institute of Education (University College – London). I have experience working with children with special needs (autistic spectrum disorders, dyslexia) as well as being a member of several developmental research teams both at the Institute of Psychiatry (Kings College, London) and the Institute of Child Health (University College, London
After spending some time working for the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority and the Department of Education in London I took some time out and spent 6 months in Kenya where I partook in some voluntary work, working on several education and health-based projects in partnership with the Aga Khan Foundation as well as travelling extensively through eastern and southern Africa on a truck safari for 2 months.
On my return to London I went back to the Department of Education where I really learnt first-hand what it is like behind the scenes of education, getting involved in policy/decision making and question selection of examinations. This is where my interest in teaching really grew. My passion was always to work with young people and teaching is definitely a career like no other, so in 2003 I finally took the step and completed the Primary PGCE at Cambridge University. I have been teaching the British Curriculum since 2005 in inner city London schools (Grades 1 to 5). From the word go I immersed myself fully into school life- both within the classroom and amongst the wider school community. I have held key management responsibilities across all schools that I have worked in such as Head of Key Stage 2 (7-11 years), Year 5 (Grade 4) Leader and Gifted and Talented coordinator, to name a few. I worked with gifted writers in Grade 1 to develop their descriptive writing skills and set up a young journalist group with high performing writers in Grades 4 and 5, publishing a school newspaper every term.
I decided to make the move to the Middle East in 2014, moving to Doha initially, where I was Head of Year 5 (Grade 4) at a large 6-form entry school with predominantly Qatari children. This role involved introducing and implementing a more creative topic-based curriculum and teaching a class of 28 Qatari boys. I moved to Dubai in 2015 and have been teaching here ever since, most recently at the Swiss school where I teach Grade 4 and developed leadership skills through the Primary School Council.
As part of my travel and through voluntary work, I have visited a number of schools in both Kenya, Tanzania and Malawi (working on a project promoting health and hygiene, as well as advising on special educational needs)– where in some classes there are over 100 children all eager to learn with barely any resources or technology! One of my passions is travelling and finding out about different cultures and traditions – having travelled extensively in Europe, North America, Africa, South-East Asia and the Indian subcontinent. Charity is another one of my passions, having set up a charity in my last London school to provide clean water (boreholes) and proper toilet facilities to schools in Mombasa – Kenya. I have most recently been involved in initiatives set up by Dubai Cares and the WE Organisation. I enjoy encouraging children to show an interest in the world, to be curious about different countries and cultures and to be internationally-minded, bringing in all our experiences and backgrounds into the classroom setting. My other interests lie in art, particularly contemporary, abstract and impressionist art – you will often find me around Alserkal Avenue or at Cinema Akil or visiting various art exhibitions in Sharjah. I enjoy keeping fit, playing squash and the more extreme sports such as sky diving and bungee jumping. Most recently I have taken up stand up paddling and a bit of yoga!
My philosophy in life has been to never judge a book by its cover – in teaching to not make preconceived judgements about a child without getting to know them inside out. I allow every child an equal chance, the opportunity to be inquisitive and to be able to ask lots of questions.
