I have over 8 years experience in teaching the primary age range in the state education sector.
I am extremely knowledgeable in the National curriculum, planning, delivering and assessing your child's ability. I will take an initial assessment to see where they are in their learning - their strengths and areas they need to develop and create a personalised program for them to progress at that right speed for them as an individual.
I have used many different programs in my career such as Mastery maths, White Rose maths, FFT phonics and Little Wandle as well as creating my own activities
I enjoy making lessons creative and with real life contexts so that the children can see the purpose for their learning ready for when they enter the adult world. I like to keep the lessons at a good pace to maximise their concentration and focus. A good light hearted sense of humor with positive encouragement is the approach I find works best for when I tutor to provide the child with self-esteem and confidence in themselves.

Hi - I'm Nic S. and I've dedicated most of my life to music. If you're passionate about music, I'd really love to help you improve your skills, and develop your creativity. My first instrument (Which I've studied to degree level) is guitar, and I consider this instrument my 'Home base'. Music is more than just 'playing guitar' though, so I'm also open to teaching music theory, composition, songwriting, production, engineering as well as mixing and mastering. I don't work to a curriculum, and I don't teach grades (Unless it's what a student wants). Whatever you're struggling with is what we'll focus on, and the music that excites you is the music we'll be learning about! I'm here to teach you, for you. Despite having an academic background, I really feel like music is for everyone, and whatever helps you achieve your goals matters more to me than if you know 'standard theory' or things like that. After graduating from Hatfield Polytechnic in 1987, I spent many years in industry, working in the UK and overseas. I worked in various roles including project management and other senior management positions.
My two children were born in 2002 and 2004, and at that time I decided to change my career and applied to Southampton University in September 2005 to take Postgraduate Certificate in Education leading to Qualified Teacher Status, as I had always had a passion for education and thought now is the time for a change.
In 2007, I completed my induction as a teacher and promptly moved to a new school as a Second in Department in Mathematics. I have stayed at that school ever since, but my position has changed to where my role is now a combination of teaching and data management for the whole school. In this position, I have a clear picture of not only the mathematics that needs to be taught but how important that is to the future prospects of the students.
As I approach retirement, I am looking to continue teaching but in a tutoring capacity, as I really enjoy the feeling when a student understands a concept for the first time and looks forward to learning more.

I have been an Art & Design teacher in the Southampton area since September 1997. My experience of working as a free-lance artist/illustrator has been an essential skill throughout my teaching career, providing learners with a wider knowledge of creative practice during tutorials and group presentations and giving the student an experienced insight of working as a professional practitioner either after their degree or in terms of work based learning after a sixth form programme.

I have assisted younger students with their progression from school as well as adult learners into college and onto higher education and employment. I aim to develop students work to meet or exceed the requirements of their expected qualifications, learning goals or employment. I ensure that the students feel happy and confident in their studies. I strongly believe that students should be able to express themselves and understand the world around them. Through their studies students should be able to communicate their thoughts and ideas and demonstrate the development of their practical skills. I am enthusiastic about encouraging students through my pastoral role to research their subjects and their progressionary aims using appropriate resources such as journals, books and appropriate internet sites. I have provided good liaison throughout my time in education between schools, colleges and local HE providers such as Southampton Solent University, The Arts University Bournemouth and Winchester School of Art. I am always constantly striving to improve student confidence through high quality teaching and learning. I am now keen to use and develop my skills and knowledge within the wider area of art and design teaching and I am particularly excited about tutoring individual students to fulfil their individual goals.

I moved to the UK from the USA after completing a Masters degree and www.*** in Classical Philology at Harvard University. My first teaching jobs in the UK were at Winchester College and Westminster School, where I taught GCSE and A-level classes in Greek and Latin.
I have published numerous articles and books on Greek literature while working as a lecturer at the University of Bristol (2007-2011) and Corpus Christi College, Oxford (2011-2016). After the birth of my third child, I stopped lecturing and took a job locally as teacher of Greek and Latin at Pilgrims' Prep School in Winchester.
At the University of Bristol, I taught undergraduates and post graduates, many of whom were Adult learners.
The diversity of my work experience has allowed me to teach from many different textbooks for beginners and intermediates and all of the popular text prescriptions for exams.
I also offer support for university applications to UK and USA universities. I give alumni interviews for Harvard applicants in the Winchester area. I am very skilled in online instruction, but I don't have a Facebook page or personal website.
