Design & Technology teacher in Aldershot, UK.
Offering GCSE/A Level support, revision and exam practice.
FREE introductory lesson to assess knowledge and priorities - 45 minutes
My online lessons are usually an hour in length, but I can be adaptable. I have 25 years experience teaching Design and Technology in Secondary schools and a private tutor since March 2023. I support GCSE (Y10/11) and A level Product Design (Y12/13).
Since leaving mainstream teaching five years ago I have worked as a STEM tutor for a charity. My main role is to develop and provide workshops including coding, engineering, electronics and sustainability for all ages. But one task I had was to teach a Year 10 student Design and Technology for a year as his school did not have a DT specialist. This made me realise that I could use my experience to tutor other students privately.

I am a very experienced maths teacher who specialises in teaching those GCSE students who struggle with maths and exams. I taught for 5 years in a specialist dyslexia and Asperger's school and for 7 years I taught in an FE college leading the GCSE retake team . I am currently now working in a secondary school teaching years 7-11. In addition to my teaching qualifications , I have a level 3 qualification in teaching students with dyslexia.
I like to teach by building confidence and showing that maths is not scary but can be fun. I use a variety of resources that I have built up over the years and adapt to the learning style of my pupils. I have been tutoring privately for the past 14 years as well as teaching in schools and colleges.
I have been a marker for Edexcel GCSE examinations for the last 15 years and I have also marked the KS2 SAT papers occasionally. Consequently I have an excellent insight into what is actually needed to get those extra marks and what the examiners are actually looking for.
I really enjoy working with young people and transforming them from nervous maths haters to confident maths lovers.

I have worked at various schools including special needs. In these organisations I have worked with young people including those on the autistic spectrum, those with behavioural learning problems and those suffering from mental health issues. I have always found it is key to strike up a good relationship with the young person, understand their problems and work with them to help them develop mentally and socially as well as helping them to gain the best outcome for themselves. I find this immensely rewarding.
I have led Maths departments at three of the schools that I have worked at. I have taught GCSE, IGCSE, GCSE Statistics and Functional Skills level 1 and 2 This entailed researching new Maths ideas including the Singapore method and the Complete Maths curriculum. I have presented teaching ideas to fellow practitioners at my school and others. I have been the school’s examination officer and have marked examination scripts for Pearsons. I have taken part in the school development, for example looking to build maths into the whole curriculum. I have always sought to develop as a practitioner and looked to do something that was advantageous to the school I was working with.
As a practitioner working for the benefit of the young people, it is essential to differentiate their work to give them the maximum opportunity to succeed.
