I have been playing guitar for 16 years and teaching music for 3 years. I have been involved in a variety of different bands and ensembles within that time. My main focus throughout this time has been all kinds of rock music but I also have lots of experience in metal and acoustic singer/songwriter styles. I qualified from Leeds College of Music, gaining a 2:1 degree in Music Production and Performance, and possess a passion for music and teaching. I have recently completed a Post Graduate Certificate of Education in Music at Edge Hill University, achieving a Distinction in the process.
I take a very professional approach to teaching and I usually like to start the student off with a song to allow them to enjoy playing immediately. No matter what their ability I find a student is always able to learn a song they know and with this approach they progress much faster. I can take you all the way from a very beginner through to advanced levels. I take a practical and direct approach and would expect the student to be involved from the very beginning.
I have been teaching privately for over 20 years. In that time I have had hundreds of students, many of whom have taken multiple ABRSM exams, diplomas, music GCSE, A level and gone on to study music at university/college. I’ve also been involved in many school workshops, delivering music education to primary and secondary school students.
Beginner students all start in the same place, learning the fundamentals of music and piano. There is a big focus on rhythm during the early lessons. Once students have developed I allow them to choose their own path, whether it be classical or jazz, taking exams or not taking exams. I guide students in the direction that THEY want to follow.
At the core of teaching is understanding the music on a deeper level, not simply playing the written music.

Hello! I'm a music teacher with 5 years of experience and I specialise in harmony/theory, composition, and jazz improvisation. Whether you/ your child is a complete beginner, or you're a professional musician looking to 'add more musical ingredients to the cupboard', or anywhere inbetween, I'd love to hear from you so we can sort out a free taster lesson.
If you are completely new to music, the piano/keyboard (or the drums) is the best place to start. The layout of the keyboard forms the basis for our understanding of harmony and theory, without which, learners of instruments (other than drums) will be at a significant disadvantage.
Things I can help with:

I have over four years of experience tutoring both online and face-to-face. During this time, I have taught piano to children as young as three and worked intensively on exam preparation, including English tests and the ISEE, often with only three months’ notice. I’ve also helped students exceed their grade level in English writing, reading, and comprehension. Additionally, I have worked with children with autism, ADHD, and anxiety, focusing on building trust and creating a fun, engaging learning environment where we can grow together.
1-1 teaching in Piano, Violin, Saxophone and Trumpet in Cardiff as well as maths tutoring. I would be happy to teach multiple instruments to the same person at a reduced price for the second. I am experienced in my instruments and so far have taught trumpet and maths so I have experience in teaching children. I have grade 8 qualifications in all 4 instruments and study piano at Cardiff University School of Music. I have an A* mathematics A-level and completed two years of mathematics at Cardiff University before I decided to pursue music further instead. Price shown is per hour but lessons are avaiable from 30 minutes to 90 minutes.

Hi my name is Laura. I have always enjoyed music and I believe it is one of the best ways you can express yourself as an individual. I started learning the electronic keyboard at the age of 11 at a music school, later migrating to piano in my teens. My obsession with music continued all to the way through to my late teens and early 20s when I later graduated with a Bachelor's Degree with Honours at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. While studying music at university, I was lucky to receive expert tuition from Jazz Pianist and composer Chris Ingham. Since graduation I always wanted to be in a funk or soul band and even now regularly turn up to jazz gigs and jams and play at open mics as I feel its so important to keep your music fresh and learn off other people.
I have been teaching piano as a peripatetic and private teacher since I left University, so when I was 21 years old.
I was really lucky to experience tuition in such a contemporary, 'non stuffy' manner, I truly believe this is the way music should be taught. There's nothing worse than dull piano lessons! Music is like a language, we learn it through the art of doing. I believe in teaching music in a friendly, non-fussy way and I like to bring out the best in my students by tailoring their lessons around them and their goals. My students study their music and theory then take exams when they are ready, I would never put a student through the pressure of an exam unless they are ready. I studied at The Birmingham School of Music and the Guildhall, London where I graduated in vocal studies and Music Therapy respectively. I am a qualified teacher and have worked in various schools across the East Midlands both as a teacher and a Music Therapist. I work as an arranger for a number of acapella groups both in the folk and gospel industry. I perform regularly both in churches and small venues as a multi-instrumentalist, conductor and singer.

I have taught music up to 'A' level and as well as all over the UK I have worked in Romania and West Africa. I regularly teach the compositional element of ABRSM exams to grade 8, where I have a 100% pass rate and have over 25 years experience in special and state schools.
