I have a total of 4 years of tutoring experience, with both tutoring agencies and in private tuition. I have taught GCSE and A level students across a variety of exam boards, namely Edexcel, AQA, OCR and JWEC. My students have gone to excel in their chosen subjects with significantly improved results.
As a tutor I use a webcam via Skype or Zoom to communicate with my students and a virtual whiteboard to write and explain as I go along. As part of my teaching many of my students have given me positive feedback of how homework and lectures aid and reinforce their learning outside tuition classes.
I usually correct the homework and highlight the corrections before starting a new subject material to ensure my students feel confident that they have mastered a topic before moving ahead. I also make PowerPoint lecture slides and handouts for my students which I am always more than happy to email. After covering the syllabus content, I usually leave ample time to discuss past exam paper questions and how to answer them.
The core principle of my lessons is to first and foremost lay a foundation for the subject material for my students and then to build up the complexity. I highly encourage understanding scientific principles rather than rote memorisation to my students.
I believe learning should be tailored to every students’ individual needs and requirements and they should enjoy the learning material.

I am a highly qualified, organised and self-driven individual with experience in working with children from years 1 to 13, teaching Mathematics in schools and as a private tutor. I have excellent time management skills and extensive experience in preparing engaging lessons adhering to the curriculum and each students’ learning needs and style.
Reflecting on my personal educational experience, external reading and modules I’ve taken up on teaching on top of my degree, I appreciate the impact the teachers make on the lives of young people. Furthermore, I believe that the skills and knowledge acquired throughout a young person’s education academically and personally has an immeasurable influence on their future. Therefore, as a tutor, I teach the material critically, specifically by expanding on the “whys” and the “hows” behind different techniques which would then encourage the students to look at the world more critically.
Additionally, I believe that understanding the reasoning behind each step from a young age is essential to strengthen their independent problem solving skills. Moreover, I believe this is pivotal in reducing maths anxiety, a common type of anxiety many suffer from which has proven to have an adverse effect on academic performance and motivation levels of students across all years.
My Educational Ethos
Throughout my experience as a teaching assistant, I have noticed that many students across all year groups abandon questions if it seems unfamiliar or difficult at first glance. However, when broken down in to steps students are capable of either working out a few of the steps towards the correct answer or reaching the complete answer by themselves.
I believe that one of the main reasons leading to this is the students’ lack of confidence in their ability and knowledge. Therefore, as part of my teaching process I focus on bridging the gap between classwork and being able to adapt their learnings to solve problems.
1. Starter activity
To build their confidence and reinforce their learnings, I start each of my lessons with a starter activity. This would include few questions on the material they have learned in previous lessons or the learnings directly relevant to the material covered in that lesson. I feel that this gives the students the opportunity to refresh their memory and skills whilst subtly drawing attention to the tools necessary for that lesson. These review activities and regular exercises help commit their learnings to long term memory leading to improved academic results.
For example, if the lesson was about using the circle theorems to find the angle x in a circle, I would start my lesson with a fun activity involving circle theorems.
2. Frequent reviewing sessions
Similarly, I like to commit half an hour to an hour per month reviewing and refreshing the material they’ve learnt over the course of the month. This is a great opportunity for the students to ask questions and brush up on their skills. Furthermore, this gives me an opportunity to review their understanding and focus on the divisions I feel could be improved. These reviewing sessions ensure effective learning as most of the material is built upon previous skills and learnings and consolidating the underpinning topics is key, especially in Mathematics.
3. Exercises
I believe the exercises given to the student must be tailored to their educational level and include questions which stretch their understanding to reach their maximum potential. This is because the first few exercises must build their confidence and then that can confidence can be used to introduce and encourage students to attempt more challenging problems.
With my lessons, I adapt the exercises per student depending on their ability because I strongly believe that this is the most effective method of teaching as no two students are the same. As a private tutor, I believe that this is the perfect opportunity for the students to gain the most personalised and therefore most effective lessons. Therefore, I make my lessons highly adaptive to cater to the needs and educational level of the students to enable them to reach their maximum results.
4. The whys and the hows
If the students understand the underpinning concepts behind each method, then I believe that leads to better results. A majority of the times, students are taught each method as a set of instructions. However, I believe that this is not the most effective way of teaching or learning as this does not promote independent problem solving skills and the likelihood of confusion increases if the students were to learn a set of processes per each topic. Therefore, I teach topics by placing emphasis on the objective of the problem and explaining why each step is taken.
I believe that education should be focused on the individual needs, and engage students in the process of their learning. I believe that all students have strengths and acquired knowledge, and the purpose of education is to assist students in identifying and building upon these.
One-on-one tutoring gives the opportunity for the teachings to be catered to the individual style and needs of the student which is not fulfilled to the same extent in school. Therefore, tutoring is the perfect opportunity for the student to reach their maximum potential because unlike in schools, these lessons will be going at a pace that is right for the student. Thus, it gives them the opportunity to master all areas.
For these reasons, my lessons are unique and made with the student in mind to cater to their individual needs and learning styles. This is how I ensure the students reach their maximum potential!

I am a friendly but demanding private tutor with a fund of real-life stories to bring science to life! I start from where the student is and find their learning style. Then we can approach the concepts and vocabulary in a way that is relevant and targeted. I use online and paper-based exercises to reinforce the essential core knowledge. Past paper practice is essential but not sufficient to succeed.
My tutoring is questioning, methodical and supportive so that the student can achieve their true potential. It is based on more than 10 years of classroom practice in both the state and private sectors and eight years of one-to-one science tutoring at GCSE and A-level (all sciences at GCSE and biology at A-level).
I prefer to tutor at students' homes, but can teach at my home in Kingston upon Thames, SW London, by special arrangement. I prefer to travel by public transport up to 30 minutes maximum, but will drive if necessary up to 10 miles.
My message to students is that there will be a learning style that works for you. Let's find it and achieve success together!

Currently working as a teacher of science in a renowned secondary school located in Hampshire, I am an advocate of active learning. Equipped with 3 years of teaching experience in the United Kingdom, I specialise in nurturing examination techniques. I do have in-depth knowledge of examination specifications and strive to teach the students to master the techniques needed to answer the examination questions.
I tutor chemistry and physics to Key Stage 3 and 4 students in Southampton, UK. For Key Stage 3 students, I find it important to make the lessons as enjoyable as possible. This is to cultivate the students' enthusiasm for science as a whole. GCSE science students do have trouble answering the questions in the examinations - the key words, the question words and the information needed to get the full marks in each questions have to be taught and practised.

I do lessons online (skype, zoom and messenger) and face to face lesson only at my home if students live up to 20 miles .Biology, chemistry, physics and maths are my favourite subjects that I have been teaching and tutoring since 1990. Also I am a part time lecturer and researcher for genetics at the university since 2009 till present time. I am very eager to tutor as teaching is a great job. Maths is my tool to teach and use in the three sciences as it will help students succeed more. I teach first few 15 minutes or twenty minutes explaining the ideas then the rest of the hour I work with the students on practicing how to answer different type of questions regarding the ideas we have went over. It is not an hour or two to write only notes but to work with the students to be practical using the ideas in questions, how to apply them and why to learn about them. lesson should be interesting to attract students to love to learn and enjoy studying with me as well to leave the tutoring hour feeling there was a gain of knowledge, practice techniques to answer the questions and no need to go home and revise again and mostly to gain confidence. all this to be done from September not two weeks to exams.

Originally from Singapore, I came to the UK, on my own, at 16 to a tutorial college in Croydon to study for my A levels in Biology,Chemistry, Physics and Maths on a 18 month course gaining AABB respectively and winning a place to study Medicine at Imperial College London.
This would have been impossible if I'd stayed home as I was not allowed to take up Biology at O levels in Singapore as I did not do well enough when I was 14 to enter into the set allowed to take 3 sciences and those doing 2 sciences were forced to take Chem/Physics. Today, I know that I wasn't just slow or stupid as my teachers had said. I had dyspraxia.
It is those experiences I had as a teenager that has made me the teacher I am today. That is one that understands that every child has their own way of learning, not being able to do something right now doesn't mean they will never be able to do it and that if you make learning fun, any person will be able to get it eventually. In other words, learning/teaching needs to be tailored to the learner.
In the initial meeting, I'll aim to find out the student's weaknesses, strengths, and general interests. If the aim is exam preparation, I will get the student to complete selected past year paper questions. This helps me find out what areas the student needs support with and also how I could present material in a way that will engage him/her. We will then agree a plan of action together. In on going sessions, I will also try to integrate and model key study skills such as mind mapping, taking concise notes, memory tricks etc. There will be quizzes either oral or written at the end of each lesson or start of the following lesson to check how much learning has been made. The student will then be ask to evaluate their own progress and set targets for themselves.

Charity
I have been part of the humanity welfare trust for 1. 5 years. Humanity welfare trust was established by a group of eminent community leaders in 2017. Humanity Welfare Trust (HWT) is a leading non-governmental organizations in countries such as Turkey, Pakistan and India including its own headquarters in (Cheadle) Manchester which is dedicated to carrying out humanitarian and development programs to fight poverty and people’s sufferings. It has also been working in partnership with vulnerable communities regardless of faith, caste, gender or political beliefs. I have helped people ranging from old grandparents in care homes and cancer patients to helping children in schools and nurseries through the charity. This charity provides opportunities to help those who are suffering from illnesses so they can acquire medical care and support. I visited India in 2016 and saw the dire condition the poor are living. Furthermore many students have started to go school in India however the children who do attend school receive an inadequate education because of poorly trained or underpaid teachers, overcrowded classrooms and a lack of basic tools such as textbooks, blackboard, even chalk, pencil and paper. I have personally helped donate sanitation kits as well as thousands of water bottles to improve the lives of these innocent people.
I strongly believe that education provides the key for a better future, so these underprivileged people can increase their skills, fulfil their potential and pursue their goals. But millions of children across India are denied even basic education. As a charity we aim to provide impoverished communities with access to education or training, which offers them a way out of poverty. By working directly with local communities, we ensure that our educational projects are relevant to their needs.
Attendance-
My attendance is 100%.This is all due to me being extremely dedicated to school and not missing a single minute of learning. I strongly believe that each second should be valued because there are many people in this world who don’t even get the chance to appreciate that. My behaviour is impeccable due to me listening to every instruction the teacher gives and acting on it instantly. The evidence is me winning the student of the year award recently. This shows that by acting on the schools motto of ‘working hard’ and ‘being nice’ can result in you being rewarded.
Work experience/community work
I have done my work experience at Cooks mill (Manchester’s largest catering supplies.)
During my work experience at Cooks mill, I was fortunate enough to have gained a first-hand experience and learned, many different sides of what goes into a project, the general process of how a project is initially planned, developed and completed; as well as how much work and detail goes into every stage.
Another valuable lesson I have learned during these 12 weeks, were the many different types of work an employer has to perform, which in turn, have provided me with more insight into the different types of roles and responsibilities that I could perform as a Doctor working for the NHS.
Reflecting back to my first day at Cooks mill, it was one of the most memorable days of my
time at work. They were very open and happy for me to contribute as much as I wanted to, and were open to any suggestions and ideas. This instantly made me feel comfortable and definitely made me feel as though I was part of a team.
In Cooks mill there are surveyors, project supervisors and managers all
working under one roof. There is a large range of people who have different strengths and
qualifications and they work together and organise their work in sync with one another so
that work flows and they are able to complete their work efficiently in order to present it to
the client on time. This in turn, manages to help the workplace become better as a team and
therefore creates a good atmosphere in the working environment. This has then showed me how I will need to communicate with my peers in my future job.
Overall, my work experience at being director at the cksmill was productive and I was very resilient in times of difficulty and I was very happy with the amount of things that I have learned and experienced in the 12 weeks of being a student employee with the company. (This is something I did on the weekends)
In the wider community I am involved in cleaning the mosque and providing support for the elderly people. This is something which I do every Sunday (early morning) which shows my passion in helping the environment be a better and cleaner place. Furthermore I do karate every Sunday to build my self-confidence and most importantly helped me with discipline. I have done karate for many years and it has helped me with my self-esteem. One on my hobbies is to also tutoring my sister every week to improve my teaching and oral skills.

Having done Chemistry, Biology, Psychology and Mathematics at A-Level and holding a BSc degree, gives me sound knowledge of the subject and I am an ambassador of the Teach First Graduate Leadership Programme. I have qualified and gained my PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) degree from Canterbury Christ Church University (Kent) in the first year of the programme - August 2017, and had worked as a NQT (newly qualified teacher) in the second year of the programme.
I am told to be an approachable person which allows me to build a very good working relationship with my students. They are never afraid of asking questions and this gives me the opportunity to identify problems and rectify them quickly. Alongside this, I am familiar with the requirements of all exam board specifications including the new AQA GCSE Trilogy (9-1) specification.
I organise my tutor sessions according to the needs and potential of my students and measure their progress regularly.
Having taught Biology (GCSE), Chemistry (GCSE and A-Level) and Physics (GCSE) to students of varying different backgrounds and from challenging backgrounds (including SEN students to students of very high ability in top sets), I have the ability to cater to all students` needs in order to push them to the next level. All students are different and they all have varying needs. I try building a relationship of trust and listen to what their needs are. Science is a challenging subject and most students can do very well, provided they have self-belief and are willing to work hard.
Although I currently teach all three Sciences in a secondary school, my specialism lies in Chemistry due to my BSc degree. I am also confident with the new content of the AQA Trilogy Combined Science, OCR A/B and Edexcel GCSE and AQA and Edexcel A level specifications. I have been tutoring since the age of 16 and my initial experience stems from a language school, in which I taught in, alongside private tutoring.
Due to the changes in the new GCSE and A-Level specifications, I ensure that my students are fully equipped to be able to tackle challenging questions. I incorporate exam-style questions into my teaching to boost pupils` confidence and assess their applied knowledge. There is a huge jump from GCSE to A-Levels however my unique teaching style bridges this gap between GCSE and AS-level. I also ensure that homework is set regularly and assessed. I firmly belief that feedback is the most vital aspect to promote student progress therefore, I provided as much feedback as possible based on questions, homework and work set.
Additionally, I have a proven record of helping students make huge progress academically by boosting their attainment grades dramatically and really motivating them to develop a pure passion for Science.
Further experience below:
• Teaching Science to groups of students across years 7 – 13, accounting for the differing ability of students and differentiating work accordingly.
• Ensuring student understanding through consistent and engaging Assessment for Learning
• Developing KS3/4 schemes or work, ensuring that all lessons are planned with clear aims and objectives, in line with departmental schemes of work
• Promoting intellectual curiosity among students through challenges, and encouraging all students to be actively engaged in their own learning and in reviewing their progress against targets.
