What is makeup?

Makeup are substances (such as lipstick or powder) used to make someone's face look more attractive. It can be used daily by both women and men. Also some professions require wearing and putting on makeup, so learning how to apply it can be pretty useful.

Cosmetics are constituted mixtures of chemical compounds derived from either natural sources, or synthetically created ones. Cosmetics have various purposes. Those designed for personal care and skin care can be used to cleanse or protect the body or skin. Cosmetics designed to enhance one's appearance like makeup can be used to conceal blemishes, enhance one's natural features (such as the eyebrows and eyelashes), add color to a person's face and can be used to change the appearance of the face entirely to resemble a different person, creature or object. Cosmetics can also be designed to add fragrance to the body.

What is the history of makeup?

Since ancient times makeup has been used to enhance beauty. Take the ancient Egyptians for example who wore makeup made of lead ore and copper. Women of the ancient world were often innovative when it came to their cosmetic needs. Berries were used to darken lips, the ashes of burnt matches were used to darken eyes, and much more.

Women of the ancient world, uneducated about safe beauty practices, often went to extreme lengths for the sake of beauty. Using berries to darken the lips was a safe enough practice. However, some homemade cosmetics involved the use of mercury, lead, arsenic, and leeches to achieve the pale beauty deemed appropriate during those times.

It's safe to say we have long since recognised the need for safe products for our beauty needs and general health.

The Victorian era was truly a time where the ladies of Europe began to embrace makeup and cosmetics. Ladies of leisure would often dust on rice powder to hide blotches, redness, and freckles. Zinc oxide and pearl powder was used to create a cosmetic powder that was highly popularised by sophisticated ladies of the time.

What are the benefits of wearing makeup?

When it comes down to wearing makeup, the benefits go beyond looks.  Believe it or not,   wearing makeup can help you transform your life in ways that you couldn’t even imagine.  In recent studies, the perfect blend of makeup has been a contributing factor in the success of women all across the world.

It is no longer a secret as to why women are obsessed with makeup. It can be applied quickly and efficiently. Women feel strong, confident and happy when they wear makeup.

Some benefits of wearing makeup are that it helps women to hide blemishes and other flaws on their face. It also helps them highlight facial features which otherwise would not be as defined without makeup. There are thousands of products lined-up on shelves which suit different complexions, textures of skin, shape and size of the faces, and conceal blemishes.

A study shows that older women who used make-up had less falls and a better posture than those who never or rarely used any makeup. Statistics say that 67% of woman receive better treatment from others when they wear makeup.
