My name is José María de Lucas Sacristán, though most know me as Chema Sacristán. I've been a professional drummer since 2004. I'd like to share a brief biography of my career in the U.K. In 2002, at 19, I realized my love for music and moved to Bristol, U.K., where I lived for four years. Bristol exposed me to all sorts of music, including rock, jazz, world music, and more. I played my first shows and worked with over five different local bands, gaining valuable experience. In 2006, I moved to London to study at Tech Music Schools, known as "Drum Tech," where I completed my higher education and earned a BMUS in Popular Music Performance (Hons), licensed by West London University. After completing my degree in 2011, I worked exclusively as a performing drummer and drum teacher, giving private lessons in my own studio, Oktopus Music Services, in North West London. In the past nine years, I've had the privilege of performing, recording, and writing with some of the best musicians in the London and U.K. scene, such as Kevin Glasgow (one of Europe's best bassists), Robin Banerjee (Amy Winehouse's guitarist), Roberto Manzin (Zucchero), Felipe Martíns (Emeterians), Juan Whist (The Voice National Spanish TV), and many others. I've showcased in most of London's live music venues and with the best U.K. and European entertainment agencies, such as Scarlett Entertainment, Full Stop Entertainment, and more. After 20 years of professional experience, I've decided to focus fully on teaching drums and performing. My studies and extensive career reflect my devotion to music, and I've mastered many techniques, including improvising, independence, coordination, and vocabulary in most music styles of modern popular music and some world music genres. My target is to share my passion for music, drums, and percussion on stage and during private lessons. My teachers at Tech Music School praised my ability to teach and transmit enthusiasm, which I developed early in my studies as I completed the music education module in my third year of university. Best regards, Jose S..

Learning to play MUSIC not the drums is the most basic cornerstone of any teachers curriculum. All rhythms, grooves and exercises MUST be linked to music to have any value to the student. The different styles of music which we encounter in our musical journey present the same technical/philosophical challenges whether we are paying jazz, rock and afro cuban. What we practice and how we practice are far more important than the length of time spent in practicing. Think “quality not quantity” Remember also that the way in which we practice is the way we will play. Time spent investigating song form and structure will aid the student to “play the right thing at the right time!!!”
The ability to LISTEN is all important. By listening and responding to musical form and the other musicians the student will play as a musician not a drummer. Certainly this is what other musicians look for. Musicality will always win over technique. Strive for tone and touch in your playing. “Just because you can play something doesn’t mean that you should."
The ability to LISTEN when you practice is also vital. If possible record your practice and listen back. This can be very painful initially but is invaluable. Investigate WHAT you are playing and WHY you are plying it not what you think you are playing. The answers to these questions should be that it fits/enhances/is stylistically correct not that it is the latest /lick you have perfected.
ALWAYS REMEMBER THINK MUSIC AND YOU WILL PLAY THE RIGHT THING!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, my name's Serban. I'm a professional drummer/percussionist with 22 years experience performing live in rock and symphonic orchestras across Europe. My qualifications, teaching experience, passion and long standing dedication to drumming, started at 12 years of age, and I started my musicianship at 6, learning the piano. I am a friendly and professional music teacher who loves helping my students experience the joy of music. Whether you're already a competent player or an absolute beginner, technique and musicianship will be at the forefront of your lessons with me. My aim is to transmit my passion and love for music to you, and help you develop, and have a great time doing so. My students are always encouraged to perform their pieces in such a way that even the most basic are a pleasure to listen to. My focus is to give you the tools to play whatever music you desire, according to the professional standards of the given genre, as well as to arm you with the ability to develop yourself and discover your own artistic expression.
