I am a highly qualified and experienced teacher of German, currently teaching GCSE German privately, having recently taught both A level and GCSE at a girls' grammar school, and an independent school, achieving a high exam success rate (100% A-A* at the grammar school, and 100% Grades 7-9 in my last year at the independent school in 2020).
Having worked in business in Munich for 12 years, I also have extensive experience teaching German in business environments, with past clients including BMW, Volvo, Lidl GmbH. I am currently leading German courses with Mahle Industries, Dana and Bosch Engineering.
I consider myself to be amiable, patient and empathetic, and my teaching approach is based on a systematic building of grammar and vocabulary which has proved to be popular and welcomed by the majority of my students.
As a native English speaker with a PGCE qualification, I also teach English as a Foreign Language, having led several one-to-one courses at Jaguar Land Rover pre-lockdown.
In recent years I have also led English courses at a number of companies in the Midlands, including The White Company and White Stuff, teaching larger groups of predominantly East European employees.
The pandemic has brought about a transition to online teaching which has proved most successful. I have, however, recently re-started teaching face-to-face at a German client company which is a most welcome development.

I have been teaching German for 30 + years in schools and colleges of further education and now I tutor from home online. I specialise in preparing students for their GCSE and A level German exams but also teach at all levels from beginners to post A level. I have a degree in German, a Master's of Education and a PGCE and am completely fluent in German having lived and worked in Germany for several years. Harriet lived in Spain on the Costa Blanca for sixteen years where she grew up speaking the Spanish language with fluency. During this time Harriet taught at an International Language School in Spain and decided to return to the UK, where she was educated at Rugby School and then went on to obtain her degree in Spanish at the University of Chester.
In 2010 she set up The Spanish Academy, offering Spanish tuition to adults & children of all ages, and also became a Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists. She has taught in a variety of secondary schools across Norfolk & Cambridgeshire and specialises in Spanish GCSE & A level tuition. After ten successful years, she is now tutoring on an online platform as well as face to face and teaching students from some of the UK’s top public schools such as Eton, Harrow & Radley.
Langauges that are offered at the Spanish Academy include Spanish, French, Italian and German. All lessons are also available to be carried out online via Zoom at a time to suit you weekly.
I have been tutoring for over 10 years and concentrate mainly on GCSE. I teach many adults from scratch or picking up where they left at school. I teach as I learned, not as a native speaker, but as a language lover who enjoyed languages at school and at university and aim to support my students by helping them with grammar and vocabulary so that they can make good progress.
When my own children were doing their GCSE's, helping them lead me to discover how much I loved teaching. Last 5 years I have been teaching Mathematics in schools in Leicestershire, preaparing students for their tests and GCSE exams and improving their Maths skills.
