I am a highly experienced teacher, performer, composer and arranger, living and working in beautiful East Devon. I love and play music of all kinds. Clarinet, Saxophone and Flute are my favourites, as nothing feels closer to the human voice.
After a first class BA in music and a PGCE that specialised in instrumental teaching, I have taught continuously in Devon schools and privately at home for over thirty years.
I offer relaxed lessons to all ages, primary to adult. I believe in an individual approach, following your interests, providing materials to suit, and sharing your love of music. As a performer, I have experience of classical, jazz, folk, pop, soul and rock, and I teach improvisation and ear skills alongside reading. I am fully familiar with the music curriculum and often support it in my lessons. I also offer a full external exam service where appropriate, using the Trinity College syllabus.

In my teaching I aim to adapt to the needs of each pupil. As I get to know them I can find out about their learning style and what motivates them. I can then tailor my teaching and teaching resources accordingly.
I am always encouraging and try and make learning fun with a variety of activities in each lesson. I aim to involve imagination and creativity. This removes the notion of music being correct or incorrect and engages the whole of the pupil in a musical experience.
I regularly play saxophone in a swing band called A Stroke of Genius which raises money for the Stroke Association. I also play flute in a flute quintet and bass guitar in a pop covers band. I love all types of music and love playing with others.

I love teaching music to all ages and abilities! With the flute I like to focus on building the technical foundations so that you can then play the music you want to play! Building the foundations is crucial in developing a good sound and ability to play music on your own, giving you lots of joy in making music!
I have had over 5 years of teaching experience in the flute and I will teach from beginners to grade 8.
I also enjoy teaching music theory from beginners to grade 6 and will take on GCSE and A level music students if they are needing help to understand what is being taught in the classroom.
For exams I prepare pupils for ABRSM unless requested otherwise.

A majority of my education was conducted at a musical conservatoire in Warsaw, Poland. During my studies, I won numerous awards, including national competitions (both as a soloist, in ensembles, as well as in orchestras). I later graduated with an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, with Grade 7 in Higher Level Music.
Since graduating, I had an opportunity to work as a session musician in prestigious venues including the Concert Studio of Polish Radio, the Slovak Radio Building and the Polish National Opera.
Currently, alongside teaching online via a music education agency, I have just graduated from London College of Music, where I gained experience in improvisation and contemporary music performance. I currenly work as a session musician, recording artist and sound and light engineer.
In my lessons, I love to help students unlock their full potential and help them fall in love with the flute! In my lessons we explore music, both through music theory and through broader contexts, in order to fully understand the instrument and fully appreciate a range of musical pieces. I always make sure to create a good, friendly atmosphere during the lesson because, no matter if it's learning breath control, expanding your technical abilities, or your musical expressivity, you should most importantly have fun and enjoy playing music!

Personal Description: Ciao! My name is Giampaolo. I have recently moved to Edinburgh from Sicily, Italy, where I worked as a music teacher for 13 years. I have been teaching the flute since I was 15 years old, both privately and in primary and secondary schools. I also have experience playing the flute in numerous orchestras in Italy, including as the second flutist in the National Orchestra in Rome and as the first flutist in the Meditterean Orchestra in Sicily. I would love to continue teaching students here in Edinburgh, and welcome students of all ages and abilities, whether you are a complete beginner, studying for exams or an audition, or looking to pick up the flute again. Tutoring Experience: I have been teaching the flute privately for 13 years since I was 15 years old. During this time I have taught students of all ages, from children to adults, and have also taught at primary school (for one year) and secondary school levels (two and a half years). Tutoring Approach: Most of all I think learning music should be enjoyed. While it is a challenge to learn a new skill, for beginners, or to master a new piece, for the more advanced, I aim to make this challenge enjoyable at every stage. Toby L. is a professional Jazz Saxophonist who recently finished his undergraduate degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London. Most notably, Toby has performed as an independent artist at famous venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, Oliver’s Jazz Club, The Barbican Centre, Pizza Express Live, London EFG jazz festival and with ensembles such as the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, Showtime Orchestra, Guildhall Jazz Orchestra and the Guildhall Big Band. Toby has taken his ensemble, Cyclone, across London and the UK hosting multiple jam sessions and events. Bringing Jazz to a younger audience through experimentation and fat backbeats, Toby is helping pave the way for a youth jazz revolution.

At music school, I rworld music, folk music, tales and art. Storytelling through percussion. Many workshops are adapted to the seasons, outdoor spaces so that and be inspired. Music really holds no bounderies and can be found everywhere.
I am constantly learning a new instrument, and take It keeps me on track with how it feels to learn and coping wi nerves. Empathy and connections is very it is, to feel that your child is safe and happy with a mentor. This is why I encourge the take-up of a 'free' initial lesson, so that you feel happy any specialist qualifications in working with children and adults with additional needs, I do have lots of experience. I have many wondefullly, within these spectrums, whom have taught me so much. I am more than happy to re-invent the wheel and nurture what is important to each person. My eldest son is a child with autism, and he is an incredibly gifted musicican, who learns by ear and repitition (even though he can read music prefectly well) - as this is how feels his way though it, and this makes his very happy. I am excited to teach anybody looking for beginner to grade 5/6 lessons in flute, piano or music theory. I have wanted to be a teacher ever since I started learning the flute as I believe its important to give people the opportunity to learn a musical instrument. The most important thing is that the student finds the lessons enjoyable and that they also feel like they are progressing with whatever goals they set for themselves, whether it be gcse or just learning for fun!
