The Key to Success
Everyone deserves the very best chance in life and providing your child with additional opportunities to learn, reinforce and extend understanding is key to developing confidence and the motivation to succeed.
I am an independent private tutor in the South Manchester area, teaching Primary age children. I pride myself on being able to assess quickly, determine next steps and deliver my lessons in a creative manner adapted carefully to the needs of each of the children I teach. I have been doing all my teaching online since March 2020 and have enjoyed finding different ways to engage and support my pupils.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch to discuss my availability and what I can do to help your child.

Rebecca K. Testimonial August 2020
I first met Rebecca K. nearly 20 years ago when as Headteacher of an exceptional private independent school I needed to employ a Head of English.
Rebecca stood out against other well qualified applicants.
Not only did she have excellent subject knowledge but showed real passion for enhancing children’s love for learning and excitement.
Over the years she demonstrated this repeatedly and not only in English, her ability and passion for other subjects was amazing and she could readily be asked to teach Maths, IT, Geography to name but a few.
As my career extended to becoming an Executive Headteacher over several schools I could call on Rebecca to advise and recommend about various up to date teaching and learning materials and techniques.
Apart from her professional knowledge she is warm caring person who really cares about the children she teaches of all abilities. She is patient, understanding and quickly appreciates the way a child learns and adapts her teaching to that individual. She has a good sense of humour which she readily uses to get the best out of her pupils without putting too much pressure on them to succeed.
If you require additional support for your child, I would thoroughly recommend you talk to Rebecca, I’m sure you will not be disappointed.

In my lessons I ensure pupils have knowledge of key words and use this to track their understanding. I am quick to identify pupils’ misconceptions and support them by finding the best method that would work out for them. I create a positive and supportive learning environment by using praise and being patient allowing children to solve a problem at their own pace.

I am a fully qualified Primary School teacher. I completed my B. Ed in 2005 and began working as a tutor soon after. My focus is mainly Literacy and Numeracy but I also regularly tutor for Entrance Exams. I have successfully tutored pupils who have gone on to attend Bury Grammar School(Boys and Girls), Manchester Grammar School, Manchester High School for Girls, Bridgewater School and Hale Barns Preparatory School. I have a 100% success rate which I am very proud of.
I provide a calm, relaxing environment in which to learn. I strongly believe that positive reinforcement is key to building a child's confidence and enables them to reach their full potential. I have tutored numerous pupils with ages ranging from 6 to 18, addressing a wide variety of educational needs. I have provided tuition both in the short term to address specific targets such as Entrance Exams or SATS and I also provide ongoing support to those pupils who have longer term educational needs. My longest standing pupil has been coming to me for 8 years! I provide regular feedback to parents and caregivers and am happy to discuss your child's progress at any point. I have been a fully qualified teacher of law and other subjects including sociology, politics and business in schools and colleges in Essex, Lancashire and Greater Manchester since 2010 and I have provided home tuition in English, maths, law, government and politics and criminology since 2015. In addition, I help primary school children improve their English and maths skills for the 11+ grammar school entry test. Several of my students have gained entry into some of the top grammar schools in Essex, Kent and London. I deliver sessions at home and via Skype (to clients in Brunei, the USA and London). I also run a successful tuition company in Manchester.
Law and Criminology - I have a degree in law and I have taught A Level and BTEC law in schools and colleges since 2010. I have a strong record of success, with several of my students going on to top universities. I have been a law subject leader (including line-managing other law teachers) for 6 and a half years. My strongest areas of law are criminal, constitutional/public/administrative law, evidence, tort, equity and trusts and English legal history. Since March 2018, I have been helping a law degree student in Manchester who was struggling and who had failed his previous year. Thanks to my support, he achieved grades ranging from 60% to over 90% in a number of modules last year and is continuing to to achieve good grades. I am also helping a law student with a criminal law dissertation and two law students with equity and trusts assignments. In addition, I assist a criminology student in Bolton with his victimisation assignment.
11 Plus - At present I prepare five children for 11+ tests, one of whom is in Brunei (over Skype, two who are being prepared for grammar schools in the Manchester area and two in London over Skype. I have a strong track record of success with dozens of pupils over four years and I set a great deal of homework for children to do, with a particular focus on writing and comprehension. I have access to several 11+ papers from some of the highest-rated grammar schools in the country and other paid-for sets of exam papers. I begin with a year 4 or year 5 assessment to establish areas for improvement in maths and English and will create a personalised learning plan for your child before beginning lessons. My pupils follow a tried and tested formula, focusing on exam-technique and getting a great deal of practice. I now run a tuition company in Manchester and we offer 11+ mock exams during the summer to prepare pupils for the real, competitive environment of 11+ tests alongside other candidates. Tests are marked and returned to parents within 3 days.
English - Over four years I have taught dozens of pupils at Key Stages 1-3 and GCSE to several pupils in tuition centres and privately. I set a great deal of homework and this varies depending on the level of the pupil. Younger children have a focus on comprehension and writing, with regular spelling tests. Key Stage 3 and GCSE pupils have a focus on literary techniques, reading skills, plays, exam technique and poetry.
Maths - In the past four years I have delivered GCSE maths tuition to a number of pupils who have sat both the higher and foundation papers. I also deliver maths tuition at key stages 1-3. I go `back to basics` and ensure pupils are confident in basic maths before moving on to more challenging areas of maths. My pupils make quick progress and rapidly increase in confidence.
