I am a professional drummer and teacher. I'm very passionate about teaching and all things music! I have been teaching all ability levels from absolute beginner right through to professional players for over ten years, and have had students from 6 years old, to 66 years old! I've also performed drum clinics/seminars through the UK and internationally demonstrating my approach to technique and musicality on the drum kit. Each lesson is tailored to suit the individual needs and wants of the student. I pride myself on being able to adapt to different learning styles and quickly identifying particular strengths and weaknesses of the student and then put into place a plan to help them work through these in a fun and efficient way. I cover all techniques and styles in my lessons. The lessons are relaxed and fun with a real focus on music! As a player I have been lucky enough to perform at drum shows and festivals all over the world and have performed at drum shows alongside Simon Phillips, Tony Royster Jr, Steve Ferrone, Damien Schmidt, Larnel Lewis, Thomas Pridgen and many many more. In addition to this, I have held drum clinics in The Netherlands, Germany, Prague, Belgium, France, and the UK. As a professional drummer in the UK, I regularly record for artists from all over the world from my purpose built home-studio, have played in London West End shows and toured throughout the UK and internationally with live acts.

My name is José María de Lucas Sacristán, though most know me as Chema Sacristán. I've been a professional drummer since 2004. I'd like to share a brief biography of my career in the U.K. In 2002, at 19, I realized my love for music and moved to Bristol, U.K., where I lived for four years. Bristol exposed me to all sorts of music, including rock, jazz, world music, and more. I played my first shows and worked with over five different local bands, gaining valuable experience. In 2006, I moved to London to study at Tech Music Schools, known as "Drum Tech," where I completed my higher education and earned a BMUS in Popular Music Performance (Hons), licensed by West London University. After completing my degree in 2011, I worked exclusively as a performing drummer and drum teacher, giving private lessons in my own studio, Oktopus Music Services, in North West London. In the past nine years, I've had the privilege of performing, recording, and writing with some of the best musicians in the London and U.K. scene, such as Kevin Glasgow (one of Europe's best bassists), Robin Banerjee (Amy Winehouse's guitarist), Roberto Manzin (Zucchero), Felipe Martíns (Emeterians), Juan Whist (The Voice National Spanish TV), and many others. I've showcased in most of London's live music venues and with the best U.K. and European entertainment agencies, such as Scarlett Entertainment, Full Stop Entertainment, and more. After 20 years of professional experience, I've decided to focus fully on teaching drums and performing. My studies and extensive career reflect my devotion to music, and I've mastered many techniques, including improvising, independence, coordination, and vocabulary in most music styles of modern popular music and some world music genres. My target is to share my passion for music, drums, and percussion on stage and during private lessons. My teaching is based on playing to actual music, not boring, repetitive exercises. We might work on Trinity Rock and Pop graded tunes and learning those charts, or your own favourite music that you've always wanted to learn and jam to.
Obviously specific drum and snare related exercises have their uses, but only to get you playing what you want to play.
Whatever your style, I get you results.
Those results though, take a bit of effort from you too, and that's cool, isn't it? I'll make sure that you know what you need to be practising to move forward, and you just need to do that. Deal?!
I teach at my studio (online and in-person) and peripatetically in schools and colleges. I am the Lead Music Mentor for Essex Music Service (EMS), running and facilitating projects for children with learning disabilities. I spent some time at Barnet and Southgate College as their Music Lecturer specialising in teaching their SEN and those with Autism, PMLD and LD. I'm also the Musical Inclusion Specialist for MusicNet East.
Most of all, I'm a professional drummer and experienced teacher, offering friendly and bespoke tuition from my studio in Rainham, Essex (or online via FaceTime/Skype/Zoom). I teach semi-professionals to absolute beginners, but am also trained in teaching children and young people.

Educator - 2013-present – I first began teaching drum lessons at Hazelwood school in 2013, as part of my teaching assistant role. Since graduating from LCCM in 2018, I’ve taught drums in and around the London area, both privately and peripatetically, for HaytoHome music and most recently for the School of Rhythm in Penge. My students range from age 6-60 and I cover beginner to advanced level. I currently teach around 20 students a week, and have helped them achieve distinctions in Rock school and Trinity examinations whilst furthering their stylistic and technical awareness. I am a registered Drumsense Master Tutor and Drumsense Tutor Trainer and fully CRB checked. Maidstone's longest standing and most experienced drum tutor, established in 1998 with 34 years playing and 20 years teaching experience. All ages and all abilities are welcome and have taught students from 4 years old to 80+ with many now making their own career from performing or teaching drums. I'm based in Harborne, Birmingham and I teach at home where my drum kit is set.
