Prior to teaching I have worked in life science Reasearch and Development and in Biopharamceutical research, sales and marketing. I also worked a part-time voluntary teaching assistant in primary and seconday schools for 2 years. In 2014 I decided to change career completely to become a science teacher, so I trained at Kings College, graduating with my PGCE in 2015.
My background prior to teaching brings additional experience and skills to my teaching. Chemistry is my specialist subject. I have taught and tutored all sciences successfully to years 7 to 11, and have taught and tutored Chemistry and Biology at A level.

I have recently retired as Head of Chemistry in a successful Kent Grammar school, which has allowed me to focus on private tutoring. I use many and varied resources from books, notes and worksheets, to past papers and their markschemes, which I use to consolidate learning. My office is equipped with a visualiser webcam allowing me to demonstrate written work and diagrams or graphics, as well facilitating using a whiteboard for a more "traditional" approach to the online learning. I am a Biochemistry professional, having studied at the University of Oxford, and graduated with a Masters degree in molecular and cellular biochemistry. I have solid background (7 years experience) with chemistry (organic, inorganic, physical) and biochemistry for both A-levels and University level.
My preferred method of tutoring is the Oxford tutorial method, that works via questions that aim to develop critical thinking skills in the student, and an ability to follow a line of reason from scratch building-up to complex arguments. This is especially useful in dealing with the more complex questions set by the exams, requiring proofs and a solid inference pattern.
