My career in education has been enriched by a diverse range of roles, each contributing to the depth of my understanding and the breadth of my skill set. As a music teacher, I have had the privilege of delivering the national curriculum across both primary and secondary schools, including mainstream and Special Educational Needs (SEN) environments. My BA Hons Degree, BTEC National Diploma in Popular Music, Grade 8 qualifications in Music Theory and Voice, with voice as my principal instrument, have equipped me with the technical expertise and artistic sensitivity to inspire a deep appreciation for music among my students. Music, in my view, is a powerful vehicle for expression and learning, particularly for those who may find conventional academic subjects challenging. My ability to teach and lead with confidence has allowed me to foster a love for music in students of all abilities, guiding them to explore their creativity and develop their talents.
I have also had the privilege of travelling and touring the world as a session singer, lead member of “The Kingdom Choir”, famously seen singing “Stand By Me” at the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Megan Markle in 2018. I have appeared on multiple Radio and TV shows on an international scale, shows such as The Voice UK, The Steven Harvey show, The One Show, Loose Women, Pride Of Britan Awards, BBC Proms, The Jonathan Ross Show, Good Morning America, Good Morning Britain, Strictly Come Dancing and performed on stages such as The Hollywood Bowl, Sydney Opera House, Royal Albert Hall and The Glastonbury Festival. I've also had the opportunity to share the stage with a vast amount of celebrities such as Stormzy, Ed Sheeran, Tasha Cobbs, Marry Mary, Emelie Sande and Barbra Streisand to name afew. This has given me a wealth of experience that I am able too share with the students that I teach. I am able to give them both theory and real life insight into the music industry.
In addition to my music qualifications, I hold a Level 5 qualification in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which has profoundly influenced my approach to teaching and student support. This qualification has provided me with a robust understanding of the cognitive and emotional processes that underpin learning and behaviour, enabling me to offer targeted support to students facing emotional or psychological challenges. My CBT training has been particularly valuable in my roles as a year 11 form tutor and a 1:1 teaching assistant, where I have often been called upon to provide pastoral care and support students through difficult periods in their lives. This qualification underscores my commitment to the holistic development of my students, ensuring that they are equipped with the tools they need to succeed both academically and personally.
My Level 2 qualification in Child Counselling further complements my CBT training and enhances my ability to support students in a comprehensive manner. This qualification has deepened my understanding of the psychological and emotional challenges that children face, and has equipped me with the skills to provide effective counselling and support within the educational setting. In combination with my extensive experience as a 1:1 teaching assistant, particularly within SEN contexts, these qualifications have enabled me to adopt a tailored, empathetic approach to teaching that recognizes and respects the individual needs of each student.
Beyond the classroom, I have been deeply involved in a range of extra-curricular activities that have enriched the educational experience for my students. My leadership of choirs, organization of singing assemblies, and preparation of students for competitions are a testament to my commitment to providing a well-rounded education that fosters not only academic excellence but also personal growth and community engagement. These activities, coupled with my formal qualifications, demonstrate my ability to nurture and develop the whole child, preparing them for success both within and beyond the school environment.
Furthermore, my experience as a 1:1 tutor for students unable to access mainstream education has broadened my perspective on the challenges faced by learners outside the traditional school setting. Visiting students in their homes and tailoring lessons to meet their unique needs has reinforced my belief in the importance of flexibility and individualized teaching approaches. This experience, combined with my qualifications in CBT and Child Counselling, positions me as an educator who is both academically and emotionally equipped to meet the diverse needs of my students. |
