I have a lot of experience tutoring across various subject areas, from piano to GCSE sciences. I have adapted my lessons to suit various age groups perfectly and by doing this, I have developed many skills in communicating to a range of people with different levels of understanding clearly and concisely to get information across and help them in the best way possible, using a unique and individual approach to make them feel at ease and have the most positive experience they can.
I strive to make learning fun but also get the most I can out of the kids and unleash their full potential. I use many active learning techniques including active recall, spaced repetition, making mind links and so on. This is what I used in my exams and I was able to pass with flying colours. Online Verbal Reasoning Tutors
My primary specializaton is helping children gain entrance to their preferred secondary school by tutoring and supporting them to pass the entrance exams. I also tutor mathematics and English for ages 7-13, which is in high demand at the moment due to gaps in knowledge caused by the Covid pandemic.
I spent 6 years working in all age groups in primary school as well as 5 years working with adults teaching English as a second language. I have had much success teaching mathematics, English, eleven plus and secondary school entrance exams to children aged 7-13. I have a high pass rate aiding children to pass their 11 plus exam.
I am skilled at building pupils’ confidence in themselves and their ability to up-level their knowledge and gain success. I am experienced teaching both CEM and GL style 11 Plus English, Maths, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

I am an enthusiastic and patient tutor, and have had previous experience tutoring 11+, as well as ancient languages. I have taught 11+ English, Maths, Verbal and Non-verbal reasoning for both the CSSE and CEM exam boards.
As someone who learned both Latin and Ancient Greek ab initio as part of my university degree and is now proficient in both, I feel I am able to confidently teach the skills that enabled me to learn these languages to students of any but the most advanced level. I worked as a primary school teacher for 14 years and loved sharing the learning journey with the young people I taught. My approach is often playful – there is so much to be learnt using games and humour – and success relies on building relationships, agreeing goals and together working out how to reach them. Sometimes the goal might just be to travel forwards and enjoy the journey; at other times there may be a more specific target.
The best moments as a teacher are “the lightbulb moments” when something clicks in the learning and new connections are made. Learning isn't prescriptive; no one is stuck with just a 'Maths Brain' or an 'English Brain' - it's the way you learn these subjects that allows you to love them and truly excel. Through my individually tailored, engaging lessons, I've been able to help my students to really thrive, even in subjects they thought weren't 'for them'!
For two and a half years, I worked as a tutor and classroom assistant at my local tuition centre, teaching both English and Maths from children at a wide range of abilities, aged from 4-16. This experience taught me the importance of tailoring learning for each individual student. Large groups can often mean that some students get left behind; everyone learns at a different pace, favouring different methods. I've found that 1-1 tuition is the perfect solution, giving students more time to ask questions and truly understand a concept before moving on to the next.

My background:
I have a wealth of teaching and leadership experience gained across both mainstream primary and independent all-through schools. Additionally, I have spent time teaching in Spain in international schools and privately owned English language academies where I worked for several years teaching English and curriculum to children, teenagers and adults. After several years in Spain, I moved back to England to pursue a career in the primary education sector where I have been working on a full-time basis ever since. Many of the vast and varied skills I acquired in a business career previous to teaching have been both relevant and invaluable to aid a successful transition into the profession, both as a class teacher, modern foreign language specialist and private tutor.
My experience:
I have been working as a class teacher in the primary sector in England for over 10 years now. Accountable for the teaching and learning across various primary year groups, I am responsible for individually and collectively planning and assessing all national curriculum subjects in accordance with school policies, with the ultimate aim of ensuring the highest possible standards of pupil achievement, progress, personal development and well-being. In addition to my day to day class teacher duties, I am also Assessment/HPL/Curriculum and MFL (French and Spanish) Coordinator for whole of school, these additional key school-wide responsibilities require that I keep myself abreast and up to date with all relevant requirements and/or changes. Currently, I am working within the state sector as Year 6 Class Teacher. Having previously worked in an all-through school from nursery to sixth form, I also have experience in teaching Spanish and French at KS3/4 level.
Whilst working previously in Spain as an EFL Teacher with a private English Language Academy, I was responsible for teaching various levels of English to adults, teenagers and Young Learners (YL, from 6 years old). The YL syllabus covered grammatical structures, vocabulary and phonology. As part of the YL courses, I also prepared children for the Young Learners Cambridge examinations. I was also responsible for teaching teenagers and adults of varying levels, including Cambridge English examination preparation classes (FCE, CAE and Proficiency).
Making learning accessible, engaging and relevant is, in my opinion, fundamental to the success and the development of every child, supporting academic achievement and the nurturing of fully rounded individuals to be all they can be. For this to happen, I believe that our curriculum needs to be a relevant and rewarding experience; adapted to ensure inclusion and providing the opportunity to develop academically and personally while experiencing success and challenge on a day-to-day basis. It allows pupils to develop their confidence, self-esteem, organisation, and determination which they can transfer into other aspects of their lives. It is from this desire to do well and lead healthy lifestyles that further success can follow.
I have always had a passion for PE as a subject with many different aspects and opportunities for the wide range of children in the school to be challenged and to feel success. This has led me to opportunities to work beyond the school, something I think is crucial in order to reflect deeply on all aspects of teaching, learning and school leadership as well as to provide varied experiences for our children.
Throughout my career, I have valued strong pastoral systems in schools; I have experience at guiding pupils through the peaks and troughs that school life can afford. Key to this support is good communication - between school and parents/guardians, between different staff members and, where appropriate, with outside agencies. Ultimately, I want to ensure that every child has a successful educational experience in my class and throughout the school.
With previous experience in tutoring and teaching, each lesson will be different tailored to the needs and focuses of the individual. They will include a range of learning techniques, activities and questions. From personal experience I know no two people learn in the same way therefore I am very adaptable to teaching in several different ways to ensure success for each pupil.
Each lesson can consist of 1 hour or 2 hours. Before each lesson, I will prepare materials based on focuses discussed. During the lesson, we will start with a quiz to obtain the current level of understanding and knowledge, moving onto some teaching of concepts and theory. Then we will focus on some understanding and practice questions. Ending with another quiz and discussions of next lesson's focus as well as feedback to pupil and parents if desired.
I have previously done 11+ tutoring, volunteering to help children's reading skills, babysitting and working in a nursery. All those experiences have helped me obtain some valuable skills of understanding the process of learning and different learning techniques as well as the approach to teaching children. Organisation is also a key skill I have which will definitely be helpful in the role as a tutor. I have a genuine passion for helping children learn and be successful as I personally understand no two children learn the same and there need to be more varied approaches in teaching.
