English Language is my passion though, of course, I have taught GCSE Literature as part of my professional role in school and I love teaching the texts associated with the requirements of the course. Increasingly, however, this in depth knowledge is relevant to GCSE English students. During the past year I have worked alongside students from years 7 - 13. I prefer to work online as this allows me to work one to one with pupils from across the country and help them to develop their skills through close monitoring and feedback. My DBS Certificate was renewed on 15 June 2024 and I have a current Child Protection Certificate 2023 both of which are requirements for my position as an English Teacher at a High School. I will make all powerpoints available to students after the classes and will mark and give feedback for work completed after the lessons although homework is optional.

Now I do all my lessons on line, either by Skype, Zoom or any other equivalent .It is cheaper for the pupil, no travelling, so no fuel used, and easier all round as the timings can be changed easily on either side, to suit any sudden problems.
I teach reading music as a given, right from the beginning. Either classical or acoustic but no specific styles, i. e. country, folk, blues etc. No, I will teach you to play properly with tutor books and additional material and with the knowledge gained you will eventually be able to play in whatever style suits you, but I will not teach a style at the lesson.
Having 60 books of guitar music published in 5 different publishers, and having played, arranged, transcribed and written all forms of guitar music since my teens, I am uniquely equipped to teach anyone whether a beginner, or an advanced player or any level in between.
I am often asked to transcribe unpublished classical guitar recordings onto sheet music which I will do happily for a fee, should anyone be interested.

My learning journey began with teaching ESOL and I have a level 3 in this field. I then progressed to do a part time PGCE and during this two year period, I did a placement within an SEND college. Following this, I continued to work in the same college for 7 years, before having children.
I have since worked with various agencies and worked as a freelance tutor. I have worked with a variety of leaners with differing needs. I have delivered sessions to profoundly and multiple disabled learners, learners with ADHD, Autism, SEMH diffculties and dyslexia.
I like to use a Mindfulness approach to learning when needed. This is particularly useful for learners who struggle with anxiety.
This approach is embedded into learning experiences and this helps with setting learning goals, both short and long term.
This is done in a variety of ways. It may be used sublimely, for eg: relaxing music is used in the background. Or, specific strategies can be introduced to the learner. Mindfulness helps with a whole range of learning difficulties, and with great success.
