My approach to teaching is to make learning fun, meaningful and accessible for all regardless of ability.

I adopt a student centred approach to teaching. I believe each student is unique so therefore teaching strategies need to be adapted to meet the needs of each student. I have 13 years experience with tutoring students from aged 6-18 years old. I have experience tutoring students with autism, learning difficulties and selective mutism.

Class Teacher KS2 Woodthorpe Community Primary School - Sheffield September 2006 to April 2019 Class teacher throughout KS 2; even taught combined year groups www.*** , Year 3 and 4. Last 3 years covered PPA and absence throughout KS 2. Emphasis on creating a skills-based curriculum and developing writing and reading attainment. Only child in Sheffield to attain level 6 in reading spent 2 years with me, in years 4 and 5. Behaviour and classroom management particular strengths, as was helping to develop whole school approaches to reading. As union rep helped to promote good relations between teachers and management. One standout aspect was my ability to create child friendly learning objectives and success criteria regarding lesson planning. Supported staff with understanding and teaching SPAG; this was on an informal and ongoing basis.

I'm a professional bassist who plays a variety of live gigs, including functions and originals. I have also worked with an eclectic mix of artists in a recording setting. I have 5+ years of teaching experience and a 1st Class Honours Bachelors of Music in Popular Music. I like to make teaching fun and engaging by utilising specific songs to teach certain techniques or necessary basics such as scales. I find that this leads to my students understanding how to use the techniques easier due to having a musical context of where they do and don't work in a genre or individual piece of music. I can help students work towards grades with any examination board though I have more experience with the rockschool grades.
In my lessons, students are not only able to revise and revisit subjects they are struggling with, but they are able to do so in a one on one supportive environment that differs significantly to a classroom environment. In my lessons, I do not cover the entire course content of mathematics, but rather specific topics that your child may be struggling with. I will start off by helping to make a list of each topic and labelling them as to which is the most important topics to revise and which are the least. I also offer mock exam sessions and other various different types of tutoring.

I hold a PhD in Art and Communication with Photography as my field of specialism and a PGCE teaching certificate in Post Compulsory Education. At the same time I am a practising photographic artist with an interest in abstract photography. I have a comprehensive understanding of contemporary photographic practices and of theoretical approaches to the subject, and also have a strong technical grounding both in traditional and in digital processes. I am experienced in all stages of the development of photographic projects, from early conceptualisation through to printing and exhibiting. I have exhibited nationally and internationally in both solo and group shows. My selection for the Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2008 Exhibition in Liverpool and London is one highlight among them.
As an artist and teacher I insist on the highest professional standards and I emphasise clear and direct communication and honesty throughout. I offer private lessons to photography students and any other individuals who would be interested in 'how to' technical skills sessions, getting support in college and university studies or in developing a photographic body of work etc. and would be in need for some expert advice.
