I am extremely committed to working with a range of young people to help them reach their academic potential. This includes an emphasis on working with those who have special educational needs. I understand that an individual approach is crucial, to learn about each child’s strengths and weaknesses. This customised approach allows me to find and develop ways to help young people engage with learning and most importantly, experience success.
I also enjoy working with mature students who wish to improve their skills. Especially those who want to work towards GCSE maths and English. I understand how important it is to work with someone who creates an individual approach, that is both encouraging and effective.

Oliver has a passionate and highly engaging approach to tutoring. He has been teaching for 29 years and has worked in a range of educational establishments including an independent school, comprehensive schools, a selective grammar school, a middle school (Y5 to Y8) and one of the largest sixth form colleges in the country. He has also been an assistant examiner for both the Edexcel and OCR exam boards, marking hundreds of A level Biology papers in each of the years he has undertaken this additional role whilst teaching. His vast teaching and marking experience have given him the opportunity to prepare a large number of learners for their G. C. S. E Science and A level Biology examinations and he has consistently guided the vast majority of them to be extremely successful. With respect to his academic background, he attained A levels in Biology and Chemistry and AS levels in Maths and English Literature then studied ‘Applied Animal Biology’ at the University College of North Wales in Bangor and was awarded a BSc honours degree in 1993. The following year, he gained a P. G. C. E. in ‘Secondary science’ from the University of Newcastle. In many of the schools he has worked in, he has not only taught extensively but has also taken on management roles in order to have an even greater influence on learners’ success. These roles have included ‘Head of Biology’ in a comprehensive school and a grammar school, ‘Head of Science’ in a grammar school and a middle School, ‘Head of Y5’ and ‘Head of Y8’ in a middle school and ‘Programme area manager for Life Sciences’ in a sixth form college. These positions have allowed him to strongly influence the delivery of the curricula within each of the schools and the college he has worked in and to develop very strong working relationships with both learners and their parents. His interests include amateur dramatics, running and badminton.

I am an experienced teacher of history with over ten years of experience teaching in a range of secondary schools across the UK including grammar, independent and state schools. I am experienced in teaching pupils from Year 7 to year 13, and have prepared hundreds of students for examinations and coursework at GCSE level, A level and International Baccalaureate. I have a strong track record of securing excellent outcomes for my pupils, many of which have gone on to study history and related subjects at a range of elite universities including Oxbridge and Ivy League colleges. I have worked with most UK examination boards and complete regular training, including a teaching leadership course with the Ambition Insitute, to ensure my knowledge of both pedagogy and current examination criteria is up to date.
My experience has given me knowledge of a wide range of pupils' learning requirements and I am able to adapt my teaching to suit the particular requirements of each pupil, whether it be essay technique, tuition on a particular period of history, Oxbridge admissions coaching or effective techniques to revise effectively for examinations. I can tutor face to face or online, depending on your requirements.

I am an Assistant Head of Middle School and a highly experienced teacher with over 20 years of providing an exceptional learning environment across a wide range of schools. These schools have included rural communities and inner-city academies within the UK, alongside international schools in Germany, Italy, America and the Cayman Islands. One of my outstanding strengths is my real-world experience outside teaching. After completing my "A" levels in Maths, Psychology and Law I achieved a 2:1 degree in Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Teesside. I earned the accolade of "Student of the Year" for my academic performance. I then made the decision to put my skills and knowledge into practice by joining Royal Mail as an "International Operational Manager" at Heathrow airport, where I designed the most efficient airmail routes in a dynamic time sensitive industry. I then took up my long-term goal of teaching by completing a PGCE in Secondary Maths at Newcastle University. Over the years I have combined my real-world experience with my teaching skills to provide an engaging context within which to learn mathematics. I have a natural gift in making immediate professional relationships with students, gaining confidence and engagement through a genuine interest in the people I meet. I believes strongly in the uniqueness of each student and I approach everyone as an individual to be understood and tailors my tone and teaching to meet their specific needs. I am a highly adaptive teacher who builds my sessions around the student, rapidly creating a lesson structure which sees student learning styles as an opportunity to drive performance. I agree short and long term goals with the student, ensuring they underpin every lesson.
Over the last year I have enhanced my skills in providing high quality online lessons, developing a delivery style which overcomes any technological barriers and are as equally engaging as face to face sessions. I have proved myself highly effective in supporting students with specific learning needs ranging across dyslexia, autism and ADHD. I am a teacher who can guarantee an immediate positive impact every time.
