After graduating with an honours degree in Mathematics, Zahra entered the hedge fund world where she studied for CIMA and CFA qualifications. During that time she also taught on a voluntary basis, before deciding to pursue teaching full time. Every child deserves an opportunity to reach their maximum potential. In addition to focusing on a child`s academic progress, I always look for opportunities to boost their confidence and self-esteem - as these are crucial for a holistic development. Difficult concepts are broken down in smaller ones through scaffolding using different techniques differentiated according to each child`s individual need. It is important to push each child past their comfort zone, and I do exactly that with the students I tutor by challenging them in different ways. I tutor children across the primary phase, all the way from teaching how to read and write in English, to solving complex problems in Maths, to preparing them for their upcoming SATs or 11+ exams.
I tailor my lessons to cater for each child's individual needs. I have a gentle and friendly approach towards children and I always look for ways to help them make connections between the things they learn and for them to develop a love for learning. I believe that every child is truly special and unique. I have successfully tutored children with specific learning needs, as well as children that have English as an additional language. Using my knowledge and experience of having taught all ages of the Primary Curriculum - from Nursery to Primary 7 - along with my passion for working with children, I strive to provide the very best level of teaching and learning for every individual I work with. I believe that building solid basic foundations in Literacy and Numeracy gives children the tools to access the wider curriculum with confidence. Tapping into and understanding the ways in which each individual child learns and progresses is key. Every child is an individual, therefore every lesson is tailored to the child, ensuring the right balance of success and challenge is met in each session, thus developing knowledge, skills and most importantly confidence for the child. Getting to know children and building a rapport with each individual is paramount, as is understanding the way in which the each child learns best - through active learning, written methods, talking, listening, reading, watching, doing. The initial tutorial session will be exploratory, consulting with parents to discuss the child’s requirements and areas needing more support and development. I use a variety of resources during tutorial sessions to aid and reinforce teaching points - for example, magnetic alphabetic letters and boards; flash cards; Dienes hundreds, tens and units cubes; Numicon; Seal Maths; Jolly Phonics; Oxford Reading Tree books; Read, Write, Inc resources; Schofield & Sims and CGP workbooks. Each tutorial session starts with a welcoming ‘check-in’ as to how the child is feeling that day and how their day has been, so that I can gauge the expectation for the session. I usually ask if there is anything in particular that the child wants to work on during the session - for example, there may be something that has been introduced in class at school that day/week that the child found confusing or difficult and wants specific help with or further explanation. I would then suggest a plan and learning intention / goal for our tutorial session that day. Teaching would then take the form of practical, written and oral work, ensuring understanding and comprehension as the lesson progresses. The pace of the lesson is very much tailored by my professional judgement and intuition as to how the child is responding and interpreting the work we are doing. A plenary at the end of the session to recap what we have worked on during that session and ensure understanding, is always extremely valuable. In consultation with parents, some request homework for their children, which I am happy to assign and mark. Weekly sessions are most successful, ensuring continuity and progression at a greater pace.

I'm fluent in Spanish, ( my native language) French, and English and have spent many years teaching and studying languages. I completed a bachelor's degree in Spanish and English at Manchester/ALmeria University (2008) and studied Spanish and English Literature in school (GCSE and A-Level) so I know how daunting grammar can sometimes feel and how stressful language/literature exams can be... but also how great it feels when you finally start getting it!

I effectively deliver and plan online outstanding lessons and the feedback that I have received from parents, pupils, and adult learners have always been very stimulating. There are so many fun online resources that I could provide you to enhance your language skills, especially in Speaking; what a great way to speak the language with a native speaker! My name is Julie J. and I am a teacher of twenty years. I moved from mainstream school to focus on tutoring students in 11 plus prep and primary level maths. I grew up and completed all my schooling in north London, in the beautiful suburb of East Finchley – home of one of the oldest cinemas in England and the UK Head Office of McDonalds! Graduating in Psychology from Bristol University in 2000 led me to further my interest in cognitive and developmental psychology by completing an MSc in Child Development at the Institute of Education (University College – London). I have experience working with children with special needs (autistic spectrum disorders, dyslexia) as well as being a member of several developmental research teams both at the Institute of Psychiatry (Kings College, London) and the Institute of Child Health (University College, London
After spending some time working for the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority and the Department of Education in London I took some time out and spent 6 months in Kenya where I partook in some voluntary work, working on several education and health-based projects in partnership with the Aga Khan Foundation as well as travelling extensively through eastern and southern Africa on a truck safari for 2 months.
On my return to London I went back to the Department of Education where I really learnt first-hand what it is like behind the scenes of education, getting involved in policy/decision making and question selection of examinations. This is where my interest in teaching really grew. My passion was always to work with young people and teaching is definitely a career like no other, so in 2003 I finally took the step and completed the Primary PGCE at Cambridge University. I have been teaching the British Curriculum since 2005 in inner city London schools (Grades 1 to 5). From the word go I immersed myself fully into school life- both within the classroom and amongst the wider school community. I have held key management responsibilities across all schools that I have worked in such as Head of Key Stage 2 (7-11 years), Year 5 (Grade 4) Leader and Gifted and Talented coordinator, to name a few. I worked with gifted writers in Grade 1 to develop their descriptive writing skills and set up a young journalist group with high performing writers in Grades 4 and 5, publishing a school newspaper every term.
I decided to make the move to the Middle East in 2014, moving to Doha initially, where I was Head of Year 5 (Grade 4) at a large 6-form entry school with predominantly Qatari children. This role involved introducing and implementing a more creative topic-based curriculum and teaching a class of 28 Qatari boys. I moved to Dubai in 2015 and have been teaching here ever since, most recently at the Swiss school where I teach Grade 4 and developed leadership skills through the Primary School Council.
As part of my travel and through voluntary work, I have visited a number of schools in both Kenya, Tanzania and Malawi (working on a project promoting health and hygiene, as well as advising on special educational needs)– where in some classes there are over 100 children all eager to learn with barely any resources or technology! One of my passions is travelling and finding out about different cultures and traditions – having travelled extensively in Europe, North America, Africa, South-East Asia and the Indian subcontinent. Charity is another one of my passions, having set up a charity in my last London school to provide clean water (boreholes) and proper toilet facilities to schools in Mombasa – Kenya. I have most recently been involved in initiatives set up by Dubai Cares and the WE Organisation. I enjoy encouraging children to show an interest in the world, to be curious about different countries and cultures and to be internationally-minded, bringing in all our experiences and backgrounds into the classroom setting. My other interests lie in art, particularly contemporary, abstract and impressionist art – you will often find me around Alserkal Avenue or at Cinema Akil or visiting various art exhibitions in Sharjah. I enjoy keeping fit, playing squash and the more extreme sports such as sky diving and bungee jumping. Most recently I have taken up stand up paddling and a bit of yoga!
My philosophy in life has been to never judge a book by its cover – in teaching to not make preconceived judgements about a child without getting to know them inside out. I allow every child an equal chance, the opportunity to be inquisitive and to be able to ask lots of questions.
