AP exams, also known as Advanced Placement examinations, are exams offered in the United States and other places around the world, which are taken by students each year in the month of May. The tests mark the end of the Advanced Placement courses that run throughout the year.

What is the format of the AP exams?

Every AP exam has a multiple choice section, which is scored by computer, and a free response or essay section, which is scored by college professors and AP teachers.

When the AP reading is over, the scores from the open responses are combined with the results of the computer-graded multiple choice questions. The AP grades that are reported to students are based on a five-point scale:

5: Extremely well qualified

4: Very well qualified

3: Qualified

2: Possibly qualified

1: No recommendation
