I love learning and, equally, to inspire this feeling in others too. I also strongly believe that social development and creativity are as important as academic learning. If you are reading this, you must be considering getting help with learning of some sort, whether for you or for someone close to you. It would be a privilege to help!
I worked as a primary school teacher for 14 years and loved sharing the learning journey with the young people I taught. My approach is often playful – there is so much to be learnt using games and humour – and success relies on building relationships, agreeing goals and together working out how to reach them. Sometimes the goal might just be to travel forwards and enjoy the journey; at other times there may be a more specific target.
The best moments as a teacher are “the lightbulb moments” when something clicks in the learning and new connections are made. My goal is always to instil self-confidence in learners, to build positively on what they already know and can do, and to help them to believe that they can learn whatever they want to learn.
I am a qualified and experienced teacher. Although I have worked in secondary/ middle schools, the majority of my teaching has been in primary schools. I have worked in mainstream schools with a wide range of children. I have coordinated enrichment programmes for gifted and talented pupils. I have supported pupils preparing for grammar school exams. I have written and managed education plans for learners with dyslexia and dyscalculia, autistic spectrum conditions and other social, emotional and mental health difficulties.
As a class teacher, I taught across the spectrum of the National Curriculum, with particular focus on progress in Reading, Writing and Maths. As the school coordinator for the teaching and learning of English for many years, I rolled out various strategies to develop reading for pleasure and to make the learning of grammar and spelling fun, fun, fun! Prior to that, I enjoyed roles as the school lead on Science, History and DT. However, my guilty pleasure is a love of numbers, the application of Maths, in games and puzzles, and the Art of Maths.
I am a parent, the most important job/ experience in the whole world.
Prior to teaching, I was an architect. More recently, I have established myself as an artist, specialising in the publication of greeting cards and fine art prints.

I am an enthusiastic and patient tutor, and have had previous experience tutoring 11+, as well as ancient languages. I have taught 11+ English, Maths, Verbal and Non-verbal reasoning for both the CSSE and CEM exam boards.
As someone who learned both Latin and Ancient Greek ab initio as part of my university degree and is now proficient in both, I feel I am able to confidently teach the skills that enabled me to learn these languages to students of any but the most advanced level. Due to COVID-19, all lessons will be taught online via Skype.
I am able to provide full-length lessons teaching material for the first time (11+, Latin and Ancient Greek only), as well as mark work, provide feedback on essays, and work through past exam papers (particularly relevant for 11+).

The Achievers Point Academy, located in Romford, Newham, Lewisham and Ilford in London & Essex caters for all children aged four to eighteen and is totally dedicated to helping your child achieve the best grades possible in English, Maths, Science, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning and Mandarin through personalised and tailored one-to-one tutoring.
All subjects are taught in lessons of one hour. You will find a regular day and time for your child to attend which fits your work commitments as we are open from Monday to Saturday. Improvements in your child’s confidence and learning will occur quickly through being taught by a fully qualified, experienced and CRB checked teacher with a deep knowledge of the national curriculum – the key to rapid progress. Advances in your child’s learning are bolstered through the continuity of being with the same teacher for the duration of the subjects you choose for your child.
The same teaching approach is adopted for high achieving and struggling children which is focused on teachers giving your child the time and finding multiple ways to patiently explain, motivate, reward and write down explanations until your child achieves an excellent understanding. Just as in SATs, GCSE, A ’ Level and Entrance exams, your child will use traditional pencil and paper to work out maths calculations, answer comprehension questions, write sentences, essays, stories, undertake grammar and punctuation exercises.

I enjoy working creatively with children and I am aware of the different mind friendly learning techniques that can be used to facilitate effective learning. I incorporate these techniques into my www.*** ;I believe that children need a firm foundation in basic literacy and numeracy skills in order to be able to flourish in other areas of the www.*** ;I understand that continuity and progression in learning is vital and my planning and teaching reflect this.
