Hi. My name is Gemma. I am a science and maths tutor, specialising in biology and applied mathematics. I teach with a strong focus on exam skill and application of knowledge, using a mixture of theory, practice questions and exam questions. I encourage a positive attitude to the subject and aim to create a love for learning, as well as good grades. Questions are always welcomed throughout my lessons. I have 3 years experience as an online private tutor in both UK and international exam boards, at all ability levels, including teaching students who have English as a second language. I have a first class degree in Microbiology and a masters in Global Health, with distinction. Both my degree and masters included strong mathematical and statistical components. I also have A levels in biology, chemistry, physics and maths. A typical lesson with me would include a starter question, to either establish baseline knowledge, or revise a previous topic. Followed by a mixture of theory with practice questions to consolidate and challenge your knowledge. For exam level students, I would then finish with exam questions. However, I am also aware every student is different and learns differently, so my lesson plans and teaching style are highly adaptable to suit the needs of my students. By avoiding the use of technical jargon and complicated notation, my lessons present concepts in a format that's easy to understand and practise. Each lesson is designed for you to achieve the following learning objectives:
* Understand a specific concept. * Perform the concept. * Write the concept as maths notation or programming code. * Develop exam technique.
Using custom digital learning tools, you will be exposed to a hands on approach to learning the concepts behind maths and computing. My lessons begin with a visual presentation explaining the focus topic, followed by interactive exercises that help you to experiment, express and reinforce your understanding. With my support and collaboration, each exercise challenges you to describe and refine your thinking process to solve a puzzle using the skills taught in the presentation.
Once you are confident in your ability, the lesson progresses to applying your understanding of the concepts to creating and understanding written notation and code. This stage of the lesson prepares you with the ability to work with exam questions and other assessments that you are preparing for.
The most important component of effective learning is your ability to practise between lessons. To help you gain the most benefit from my help, I provide online learning exercises that allow you to benefit from my guidance and feedback throughout the week as you study.

I am a qualified Primary School Teacher from Urmston. I left University in 2011 with a First Class BA Honours in Primary Education and have taught in Primary Schools in Trafford ever since. With over 13 years experience teaching in EYFS, KS1, LKS2, I have extensive knowledge of the Primary National Curriculum and end of year expectations. I have taught many children over my career with various educational needs including children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and have a particular strength in being able to adapt my teaching in order to ensure the children in my care thrive with their education. I have a proven track record in the use of effective assessment in order to quickly identify a child’s strengths, diagnose gaps in their understanding and plan for their next steps.
