I have been teaching at Secondary level for more than 25 years including being head of department. I teach A level Maths and Further Maths where I specialise in mechanics and decision Maths. I am a current examiner at both GCSE and A level Maths. I like students to enjoy my sessions, have a laugh and feel able to ask when they need help. I use the online platform Bramble. I completed my GCSEs in 2018 achieving A*s in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology & History. I also achieved 3 As in my A-levels for Mathematics, Chemistry & Biology in 2020. Since then I have completed a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering.
I have been privately tutoring Mathematics to students from the ages 10-18 (Secondary School through to A-Levels) over the past four years whilst completing my Master's degree in Mathematics. I take great pride in my work as a tutor, and always make it a priority to make my students feel comfortable that they can ask me any questions at any time during a lesson. Having been on both sides of the small classroom teaching dynamic, I can sympathise with how some students may feel a sense of unease when starting a new class with a new teacher, which can ultimately impact their classroom learning. During my lessons, I like to stress the importance that this is not simply another classroom lesson where I talk and the student should remain quiet, and instead encourage my students to ask me any and all questions they have about the subject. The more they can tell me about their concerns with Mathematics, the more information I have to work with when adapting the lesson to their needs. My preferred teaching style is to look through previous work that a student has completed, and create complete breakdowns to topics/exam question solutions to give the student a step-by-step method that they can use beyond the lesson. After each lesson, I send an email with a document attached that contains all of the information discussed during the lesson, so that they can use the teachings at their own leisure in the future. If I specialise my lessons to each student, then what would be the point of me not sharing the resources afterwards? My working times are quite flexible, as I work from home, so most days from 10:00 - 18:00 work well for me. This is not a strict time window, however, so please feel free to contact me with alternative times outside of these hours, and we can see if we can make it work. I believe all students can reach their maximum potential if time is taken to find the learning style best suited to them. No question is a silly question and I am happy to help even outside of teaching time where possible. I am currently a first year medical student at the University of Leeds, so I know a thing or two about working hard. It hasn’t been easy to get to this position but with the right mentorship, I believe anything is possible. My teaching style will consist of a range of learning the knowledge as well as applying it through active recall, mini tests (scores do not matter) and past paper questions which can be worked through independently as well as with me. I believe variation is key to finding the best learning style for a student as well as being aware that we all make mistakes and they are there to learn from. I have both mentorship and tutoring experience having taken part in a programme in college to help struggling GCSE students. Many of them managed to exceed their expectations and one student even jumped from a 5 in Maths to an 8 in GCSE with the right teaching methods.
In terms of tutoring, I have 1 year of experience teaching students of all abilities. Each student has had their grade increase by at least 1 and their confidence and willingness to learn has improved considerably. No matter your confidence level, I will be able to help you. I am excited to be able to help other students achieve the grades they deserve and are capable of.

I focus on helping students think creatively and independently and increase their problem solving and analytical abilities.
Students preparing for exams, I will support them with exam preparation and practice with relevant learning material, depending on the student’s knowledge and the time remaining until the exam.
The lesson will end with a check to see what the child has taken from the lesson with optional homework. I will provide feedback at the end of each lesson to parents if requested.

I use PowerPoints, animations and an online white board to teach.
