Mathematics Tutor, Teacher
I am a very experienced maths teacher who specialises in teaching those GCSE students who struggle with maths and exams. I taught for 5 years in a specialist dyslexia and Asperger's school and for 7 years I taught in an FE college leading the GCSE retake team . I am currently now working in a secondary school teaching years 7-11. In addition to my teaching qualifications , I have a level 3 qualification in teaching students with dyslexia.
I like to teach by building confidence and showing that maths is not scary but can be fun. I use a variety of resources that I have built up over the years and adapt to the learning style of my pupils. I have been tutoring privately for the past 14 years as well as teaching in schools and colleges.
I have been a marker for Edexcel GCSE examinations for the last 15 years and I have also marked the KS2 SAT papers occasionally. Consequently I have an excellent insight into what is actually needed to get those extra marks and what the examiners are actually looking for.
I really enjoy working with young people and transforming them from nervous maths haters to confident maths lovers.

I've been working as a teacher and Deputy HT for 20 years. Maths is a subject I didn't enjoy at school but which I now love teaching and specialise in. In my school role, I support lots of groups of children and teach maths across the primary phase. I am also employed by the NCETM (National centre for excellence in teaching maths) and work with many other local schools, in Winchester, Romsey and the surrounding areas, developing their maths curriculum and supporting teachers to develop their maths subject knowledge and teaching. As a tutor I've supported children across KS2 and also supported one young person to successfully retake his GCSE maths at foundation level. I work four days per week in school so have some flexibility in when I'm able to tutor. As I work in a mainstream school, I have also experience or working 1:1 with children with a range of learning needs.

In recent years there has been a huge growth in the number of agencies offering maths tuition at very competitive rates. Many tutors are university students or recent graduates and in need of some extra cash. They may have excellent subject knowledge and exam technique but equally important is whether they are able to communicate that knowledge to younger students.
Academic excellence does not necessarily make you a good teacher- explanative skills are far more important. I became really good at tutoring maths after many years of developing these skills. Almost a decade later, I am able to understand the individual needs of each student and provide bespoke online maths tuition that meets their requirements- whether it's KS3, GCSE or A-level maths tutoring.
So, whether you are gearing up for an upcoming exam, seeking to master a challenging topic, or simply looking to deepen your mathematical knowledge, I am here to guide you every step of the way.

I have worked at various schools including special needs. In these organisations I have worked with young people including those on the autistic spectrum, those with behavioural learning problems and those suffering from mental health issues. I have always found it is key to strike up a good relationship with the young person, understand their problems and work with them to help them develop mentally and socially as well as helping them to gain the best outcome for themselves. I find this immensely rewarding.
I have led Maths departments at three of the schools that I have worked at. I have taught GCSE, IGCSE, GCSE Statistics and Functional Skills level 1 and 2 This entailed researching new Maths ideas including the Singapore method and the Complete Maths curriculum. I have presented teaching ideas to fellow practitioners at my school and others. I have been the school’s examination officer and have marked examination scripts for Pearsons. I have taken part in the school development, for example looking to build maths into the whole curriculum. I have always sought to develop as a practitioner and looked to do something that was advantageous to the school I was working with.
As a practitioner working for the benefit of the young people, it is essential to differentiate their work to give them the maximum opportunity to succeed.

After graduating from Hatfield Polytechnic in 1987, I spent many years in industry, working in the UK and overseas. I worked in various roles including project management and other senior management positions.
My two children were born in 2002 and 2004, and at that time I decided to change my career and applied to Southampton University in September 2005 to take Postgraduate Certificate in Education leading to Qualified Teacher Status, as I had always had a passion for education and thought now is the time for a change.
In 2007, I completed my induction as a teacher and promptly moved to a new school as a Second in Department in Mathematics. I have stayed at that school ever since, but my position has changed to where my role is now a combination of teaching and data management for the whole school. In this position, I have a clear picture of not only the mathematics that needs to be taught but how important that is to the future prospects of the students.
As I approach retirement, I am looking to continue teaching but in a tutoring capacity, as I really enjoy the feeling when a student understands a concept for the first time and looks forward to learning more.

Currently working as a teacher of science in a renowned secondary school located in Hampshire, I am an advocate of active learning. Equipped with 3 years of teaching experience in the United Kingdom, I specialise in nurturing examination techniques. I do have in-depth knowledge of examination specifications and strive to teach the students to master the techniques needed to answer the examination questions.
I tutor chemistry and physics to Key Stage 3 and 4 students in Southampton, UK. For Key Stage 3 students, I find it important to make the lessons as enjoyable as possible. This is to cultivate the students' enthusiasm for science as a whole. GCSE science students do have trouble answering the questions in the examinations - the key words, the question words and the information needed to get the full marks in each questions have to be taught and practised.

Are you worried about your child falling behind in maths? Are they concerned about not being able to reach their target grade? Do you want them to get off to a flying start come September? Then 1:1 tutoring is the answer.
Being involved in education for 10+ years, I have supported many students (children and adults), make tremendous progress in their studies and even exceed their target grade.
I am conversant with both AQA and Edexcel boards, and remote teaching via zoom and MS Teams.
No minimum sessions required and for your peace of mind, the first session is always free!
Limited slots are now available. For more info, drop me a message.
