In recent years there has been a huge growth in the number of agencies offering maths tuition at very competitive rates. Many tutors are university students or recent graduates and in need of some extra cash. They may have excellent subject knowledge and exam technique but equally important is whether they are able to communicate that knowledge to younger students. Academic excellence does not necessarily make you a good teacher- explanative skills are far more important. I became really good at tutoring maths after many years of developing these skills.
