Philip M R. Ltd is a small company in Hemel Hempstead which, amongst other operations, provides 1 to1 private teaching to local children from Key Stage 2 upwards in STEM subjects. We have a dedicated covid secure classroom. We have an extremely comprehensive equipment store to cover all the experiments for GCSE and A level Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics). This enables the students to take part in experiments which enhances their learning.
Since the lockdown, our response was to transition, virtually overnight, our teaching online. The tutor’s hands became the student’s hands and the cameras their eyes, the microphone and speakers became their voice and ears. With the power of a broadcast switcher, the student did not have one view but many, depending on what was needed. In addition, we decided to live stream tutorials on YouTube going through GCSE and A level Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, topic by topic, week by week utilising all our equipment for experiments. This was to develop a resource for all not just our own students.

I’m currently a UCL Economics student after receiving top grades at both GCSE and A levels in Maths, Further Maths and Economics. I am currently offering tutoring in maths for those going into both 11+ and GCSE’s or anywhere in between!. As an experienced tutor specialising in both GCSE and 11+ preparation, I am passionate about helping students achieve their full potential through a tailored and engaging approach to learning. My approach to learning focuses on various key components:
1. Tailored learning plans - every student is unique and I make sure to take the time to assess their strengths, areas for improvement and learning style within the first few sessions allowing me to create a personalised plan to best meet there specific needs.
2. A focus on understanding, as opposed to memorisation - For both 11+ and GCSE students, my teaching philosophy centres on ensuring true understanding through tackling difficult concepts in a clear and approachable manner as well as the usage of a multitude of practise questions to ensure students are able to apply their new knowledge.
3. Building confidence and exam technique - I’ve learnt throughout my academic career that confidence truly is the key to success, especially when it comes to exams. I work with students to improve their exam technique, time management and stress management strategies through stimulating exam conditions in my lessons.

Over the last 10+ years, I've diligently tutored students, guiding them from 11+ entrance exams to A-level proficiency, encompassing a spectrum of Exam Boards. So far, every pupil secured admission into prestigious grammar and private schools at the 11+ stage, while consistently surpassing their predicted grades for both GCSE and A-level examinations.

My priority is tailoring each of my lessons according to individual students, which is a key aspect of one-to-one tutoring. I also use questions and homework to check understanding continually. I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student`s understanding and technique.
I always take a student-centered approach to teaching by asking students to bring their notes and talk me through the topics they feel are most difficult. My aim as your tutor would be to identify your strengths and weaknesses and build upon these appropriately. I would incorporate past paper questions very early in the curriculum to assess how well a child can apply their knowledge to answering exam questions. This will ensure that by the time the exams are sat the student will be fully prepared.
I prepare materials which allow them to reinforce their understanding to learn a difficult subject. I gradually strengthen their knowledge and bring them to a higher level.
