I have recently graduated from the University of Birmingham with first-class honours, as well as the Richard Shackleton prize for best dissertation in the year. As a consequence, I have developed my essay writing techniques and structures to a level that is a very high standard. Within my tutoring sessions, I will be able to help to pass on the skills and techniques to my clients and make them feel comfortable and assured when facing a tricky question or concept.
Most importantly, however, history and English are subjects that need to be approached with curiosity and fascination. My sessions will approach various history and literature in a way that removes the perceived dustiness from History and English and will help the client to approach difficult concepts in an interpretive manner, which will help them to write clearer and more confident answers.
I am a current masters student and very flexible, I will be able to be accomodating for the student when they would like a tutoring session. Moreover, I will offer the first session free in order to see if the client enjoys and responds to the teaching. Flexibility and comfort are crucial.
I will be able to offer valuable essay and exam technique for clients in their GCSE or A-Level cycle- or just for students wishing to feel more confident. Fundamentally I will instruct how to break down a question, choose an appropriate structure, pick critical evidence and lay down quality and evaluative analysis. For clients looking to develop a wider interest in historical events, ideas and theories, I can use the experience and reading from my university years to teach these in a unique and exciting way. I firmly believe History to be dependent on curiosity and I would relish teaching it in this way.
For those looking for English lessons: I attained an A* in my GCSE, an A* overall in my A-Level (including full marks on my English coursework in year 13), as well as a first in a module on George Orwell in my final year that was very literature-based. I am more than capable of teaching a fascinating programme in both English and History and I look forward to doing so.

My name is Gary H. and I am a 20 year old History graduate from the University of Liverpool. I have always been a keen historian however I always found it hard to understand what was actually expected of me from History exams and tests, this became a massive problem at GCSE with History being the worst grade that I had achieved. My perserverance for the subject that I loved however lead me to gain a newfound understanding about what the examiners were expecting you to be able to do in a History essay and being able to translate good knowledge of the subject into good essays. This understanding is what lead to me eventually gaining an A in my History A-Level as well as 71/75 in one of the papers, following this I transitioned to doing a BA Honors degree at a Russell Group University in the subject that 3 years prior was my worst GCSE. I have a deep understanding of what a History essay is meant to look like as well as being able to understand where potential pitfall come for those who study hard but seem to not be getting the grades that their hard work deserves. I want to provide help to people that were in my position not knowing how to progress and I feel that I have the skill set to be able to do so.

I am a friendly, caring and dedicated tutor and career academic who is particularly effective in working with nervous students and building their confidence. Having spent over twenty years working in academia I have a strong understanding of exam and revision techniques, writing skills and the quirks of the history curriculum.
I am very patient and will ensure lessons match each student's learning pace and style. My nurturing approach has been very successful with past students of all ages and abilities.
I am happy to teach online (Skype) or face-to-face at my home.
I have taught curriculum-based history in a museum setting to students of all ages and abilities and enjoy sparking an interest in history while also building confidence in exam performance and essay writing. During my doctorate I taught many undergraduate history students of varied abilities, providing constructive, encouraging feedback that helped them to improve their essay writing skills and grades, in many cases by two levels or more. I have also designed history teaching materials and lessons plans for secondary schools and am confident with the three main exam boards AQA, Edexcel and OCR.
I believe it is important to establish individualised learning goals so I tailor my lessons to cater to each student's needs and providing them the support to achieve them. My approach is routed in encouragement and building students' confidence in their skills which I have found achieves lasting success in any subject.
I cover writing techniques, source analysis, and understanding course content as well as exam preparation including revision techniques, time management and coping with stress. I am also happy to proofread students' essays and assignments for SPaG.
With teaching English as a foreign language, I am a qualified TEFL tutor and have experience of teaching children and adults online, planning effective and enjoyable lessons focused on oral and written English, business, academic and conversational English.

As an A-level student, balancing continuous volunteering work, in various sectors such as tutoring and mentoring, with education has ensured that I have developed the skills of time management and organisation. Through undertaking a variety of volunteering opportunities; ambition, drive, passion, and perseverance have been amongst a variety of abilities that I have had to develop to ensure success. I hope to use my interpersonal skills to work alongside a team that prioritises the student’s satisfaction and their experience.
As a part of my Silver Duke of Edinburgh volunteering, I tutored students in the lower year of my school with the aim of improving their grades before they began the GCSE process. Many of these students were often easily distracted and prone to misbehaving during tutoring sessions, necessitating a great deal of persistence, perseverance, and patience to get round to the students and ensure that they were focused on their tasks. As I tutored while mentoring these students, I needed to be able to present the role of both an authoritative figure and a peer. The key to success was to maintain a fun and motivating learning environment.

I am a final year History student at Bristol. I have lots of experience working in primary school as well as someone to one tuition. I am confident, enthusiastic and really enjoy teaching looking to become a teacher after I graduate.
I usually teach for around an hour typically to primary school age but I am looking to teach some older years as well. I like to keep the lesson interactive not focusing on the same exercise for too long. I find primary school-age children struggle to focus on the same thing for a long time. However, what I like about tutoring one-to-one or in small groups is that it gives you a lot of space to be flexible depending on who I am teaching.

I'm excited to offer tutoring and life coaching services that are not just educational but also inspirational and supportive. Having recently completed my exams with an impressive 43/45 in the IB program, my experiences uniquely position me to relate to and advise students on both their studies and the broader aspects of university life. I completed my PGCE in History Secondary teaching at the institute of Education in 2004 and since then have worked in a range of state and private schools, as well as tutoring all ages from primary to A Level. I currently teach History and Politics at at top London school. In addition I am an examiner for GCSE, IGCSE and A Level with Edexcel and OCR. As an experienced teacher and tutor, I recognise that all students approach the subject in different ways and have different strengths and areas for improvement. I am a firm believer in positive reinforcement however this must be combined with academic rigour. My work as a GCSE and A Level examiner gives me a valuable insight into what it is that examiners are looking for and I will use this to bring out the best in my students but at the same time help them be as prepared as they can be for public examinations. I am patient and enthusiastic - I love my subjects - and I aim to instil this enthusiasm in my students.

I am a recent graduate from Cambridge University in History and am currently completing a postgraduate degree in Intellectual History.
I am passionate about all forms of historical processes across space and time.
At undergraduate level I focused on eighteenth century British socioeconomics, nineteenth century British parliamentary politics; eleventh and twelfth century European history (including heresy and the Crusades); Enlightenment political thought; the early modern Ottoman and Safavid empires; nineteenth century Islamic political thought; and Tokugawa Japan. This wide-ranging portfolio means that I can provide a breadth of expertise to students at GCSE and A-level, but am also more than open to teaching many other historical contexts.
I have particular specialisms in historiography; intellectual history; and political thought, which I am happy to teach to any students looking for post-A-level tutoring.
As a native French speaker and additionally, having proficient reading ability in Latin, I am pleased to also provide Latin and French language lessons, either in addition to History lessons or independantly of them.
My techniques and teaching methodology:
- My tutoring style is first and foremost tailored to each individual student. I work closely with students to create customized study plans that help them achieve their academic goals. I use engaging and effective teaching methods to help students understand difficult concepts and develop the skills they need to succeed in History, French or Latin exams and beyond. I also use tools to monitor and track student progress, and provide regular feedback to students.
- Interactive teaching that supports independent thinking is a mode of teaching that I find particularly rewarding, as I aim to adapt my tutoring technique to suit the prior knowledge and learning needs of different students. This requires an accomodation of mixed abilities and knowledge levels through inclusive, question-led teaching practices based on the student's contributions.
My Qualifications:
- MA in Intellectual History, Jesus College, Oxford University (2023-2024)
- BA in History, Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge University (2020-2023)
- A-Levels: History (A*), French (A*), Latin (A*), Ancient Greek (A)
- GCSEs: 13 A*s
Teaches:
- History (GCSE, A-level, BA level)
- French (GCSE and A-level)
- Latin (GCSE)
Please let me know if you have any questions! I look forward to working with you. :)

I am fresh from higher education and excited to tutor, having completed my History BA less than a year ago. I have been blessed with a rich private education myself (St Paul's School), which has given me an appreciation for the needs of the ambitious student at primary school and secondary school levels. I believe that I can guarantee your learning with very precise communication of subjects, in response to your preferred manner of visualisation, studying or revision. I also keep consummate, effective knowledge of many different subjects thanks to my A-standard performance across 11 GCSEs and 4 A-Levels during private education. I will provide you the best version of the lessons I was taught at these elite institutions.
