-Our lessons- We will set our goals as soon as we begin working together, identifying what you want to get out of our sessions and making a plan to work toward this. Once we know what outcome we are aiming for, we will use a wide variety of techniques to bring your goals to life. In particular, we will draw on real life texts and case studies to make sure that your understanding is as well rounded as possible. If you are aiming towards taking a certain exam, we will also draw heavily on past paper questions and example answers, which we will assess together to identify their strengths and weaknesses and to understand how you can progress. In business or general contexts, we will work together to ensure we build the specific skills you are looking for. In general, I will ask you to complete a couple of short exercises in between sessions. We will then discuss these together to understand our next steps. -My background- I am currently working towards my Master's degree in Communication Strategies, having previously achieved a first class BA (Hons) in English and Drama from Queen Mary University London. I was also selected to present my thesis research at the National Conference for Undergraduate Research. During my studies, I supported students with essay writing, study skills and proof reading, further developing my tutoring skills. Following my degree, I worked at a boarding school in Oxford where I worked with international students from around the world to help them to get the most from their studies and to build their English language skills.
I am a GCSE student currently taking my examinations with predictions of all 8/9s. After lots of hardwork and determination, I have been able to achieve highly in all GCSE subjects on offer and I believe that as a young teacher, students will feel more comfortable learning with likeminded people. Although it may seem easy, GCSE's and studying is hard! I for one found subjects like Maths and Science very difficult and spent hours practicing and perfecting the subjects. Now, I teach my friends and family all of the subjects I have learnt for GCSE and I know all of the tips and tricks for revision and effective studying. I will make lessons fun and interactive ensuring students are prepared for whatever exam they are taking or for any help in subjects they are struggling with.
I am about to take my Music GCSE exam with a predicted result of grade 8/9. I achieved 100% in my performance and composition and feel teaching is the right next step. I have a distinction in Grade 8 acoustic guitar and have achieved my Grade 5 music theory. I enjoy playing electric/acoustic guitar and singing as well as improvising on guitar! I have performed in countless venues solo, within a Rock band, in choirs, in orchestras and in musical theatre shows. Although I started learning with an acoustic guitar at the age of 7, I have now got two electric guitars, a keyboard, microphones and a ukulele! I personally adore Pop, Rock, Britpop and Jazz music and my favourite artists include Oasis, Chappell Roan, Fontaines DC, Arctic Monkeys, The Cranberries, Billie Eilish, Amy Whinehouse as well as many more!
On the first lesson, I will work out a plan personalised to the student and their aims and goals. For all guitar students, we will cover fun songs to play on guitar with strummed chords and different plucking techniques including any songs the student would prefer to learn! Within one lesson, we will also go over basic scales needed for theory and improvisation and we will work from the RGT grade music books or the Rock School music books learning the songs needed for acoustic classical guitar/ acoustic guitar performance grades. The student will be able to learn how to play the guitar songs needed for grades even if they don't wish to take them or, they can have the option just to learn any songs they would like for a fun experience. The student will also learn the parts of the guitar and begin to learn all the notes of the fretboard for sight reading. Additionally, I will ensure the student is able to read chords and tabs for guitar as well as basic notation that can be helpful for theory and other instruments. The student will have the ability to play a wide variety of techniques including Hammer-on, bends, slides, finger-picking and palm muting. I will also teach the student about different ways of playing guitar and different effects that can be created using Amps and tuning.
I will also cover how to write chords on paper- key skills for songwriting- as well as tips on performing that could be useful for any musician no matter the instrument. As I have skills in writing my own music as well as producing my own music, I will be able to encourage students to explore different genres of music and different styles of playing. Within the lesson, we will cover everything stated above to ensure the student has a well rounded musical knowledge. I will always ask that the students go away and practice at home but this will never be forced- the student will only practice if they enjoy playing! If the student grows to love the instrument, they will crave the music and they will want to start playing alone at home without being pressured.
I am able to complete lessons in person or online for just £12 an hour!

I am a professional violinist, violist and conductor, studying for a PhD in Music at the University of Cambridge. As a Supervisor in the Faculty of Music, I teach undergraduate music students at Cambridge. I also teach conducting, violin, viola, and chamber music at the Saffron Walden Centre for Young Musicians in Essex. – I favour a structured approach to teaching. I devise lesson plans in advance of every lesson, catered to the student's specific needs. I also inform the design of my classes through a constructive dialogue with my students. This enables me to structure my lessons within a curriculum that meets my students' specific educational needs, and serves to enable my students to achieve tangible improvements in their academic performance and musical ability.
Academic Tuition
– My academic lessons tend to be structured around specific sections of the syllabus, or particular topics that students require help with.
– I employ a seminar style format, in which I flesh out ideas with the aid of quotations, other audio-visual resources, and analytical commentary which my students can use to develop essays, essay plans, revision tools, and exam revision packs.
– I use Powerpoint to provide students with a variety of resources and visual stimuli.
– I structure my lesson plans with a view to providing short points of rest or temporary closure, in which students are able to ask questions about the content. I am also happy for students to interrupt the flow of the lesson if a burning question arises.
Musical Performance
– Violin lessons tend to be carefully planned to focus on specific technical aspects of performance. To train musicality, I often teach this through the use of Kreutzer and Fiorillo etudes, Dont studies, and also pieces of repertoire catered to the student's musical interests and technical requirements.
– I am open to considering student repertoire suggestions if they are particularly passionate about a certain piece.

– Academic lessons tend to be 45–60 minutes in length, but I can adapt my teaching schedule to provide students with additional support if needed.
