I am a fully qualified English Teacher with 12 years experience working in a secondary school. In my career I have progressed to the Senior Leadership Team as an Asistant Head Teacher and have a comprehensive background in pastoral care and behaviour management. As a teacher I have been responsible for GCSE and A level exam groups working succesfully with students at all levels of attainment. I have also worked with students joining secondary school in Year 7 and have also taught the full Key Stage 3 curriculum.
As a teacher I pride myself on a calm and supportive approach enabling those I work with to achieve their potential in a postive learning environment. I also understand the importnace of feedback and targets in helping students make progress and reach their goals.

Over my seven years of teaching at a comprehensive school in Crawley I have taught four English GCSE exam specifications, as well as A-Level English Literature, AS-Level English Language, PDC and KS3 German. I am responsible for overseeing the planning, delivery and assessment of the KS3 curriculum.
During these unprecedented times I would like to reach out to as many students as possible, particularly those whose parents are struggling to juggle the pressures of lockdown home life and education, so am currently offering my services as an online tutor.
As an experienced secondary English teacher and tutor, I carefully curate my sessions. I adopt a personalised approach to learning with a huge focus on building the young person's confidence and making English enjoyable. Words are the most powerful tool that we have when it comes to interacting with the world; our ability to shape language and to understand and analyse meaning in written texts is extraordinary valuable.
I have extensive experience in 1:1 tutoring of students with ASD, ADHD and dyslexia, amongst a wider range of needs and contexts.

My sessions are engaging, lively and purposeful. I aim to make students feel at ease; I am an experienced classroom teacher of both girls and boys and a parent of a 12 year old so know how to make learning as 'pain-free' as possible. I have experience with students of all abilities and can adapt my delivery and resources to suit your needs.
An experienced GCSE Language examiner, I know exactly how to tackle each question for the English Lang and Lit examinations. I have successfully prepared A-Level students to sit (and achieve an interview in) the Oxbridge ELAT test and my A-Level Literature, Language and Literature students have all achieved their target grades or higher. I am currently working in a school therefore, my availability is only after school and weekends. I am very happy to negotiate a timetable, or paired tutoring sessions so students can work on their English with a friend.

I have a lot of experience in language acquisition, and will be able to help you achieve your language goals in English, French or Spanish at any level. My background is very diverse, and I have lived in Chile, France, South Korea, Spain, and Kazakhstan over the course of my life, gaining an understanding of the linguistic structures and grammatical rules of 6 languages throughout the process. I am thus very well equipped to teach you how to understand grammar in simple terms, and I have a wealth of experience with regard to memorising vocabulary.
After achieving a grade of 40/45 in the IB, I began a degree in BA French and Philosophy at UCL, graduating with first class honours and spending a year studying French Literature at the Sorbonne in Paris under some of the greatest minds in the field. I then taught English for a year in South Korea, during which time I gained a TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) qualification after only having studied the language for 5 months, and acquired significant expertise in working with students of all levels. I then moved to Barcelona to complete my masters degree, before completing an exchange in Kazakhstan, where I did field research with Russian draft-dodgers for an award-winning masters dissertation that has since been published. My English language writing skills are excellent, and I have a wealth of knowledge on foreign affairs, global history and literature across a number of languages.
