I tutor for English, History, Politics, Philosophy, Psychology, Religious Studies and Sociology at GCSE and AS/A2 Level. I have been tutoring since 2014, and have gained extensive experience working for several families, offering tuition and academic coaching over the years. I have helped several students' gain the confidence and attain the academic success they deserve. When I am not tutoring, I can be found studying for my Masters in Education at Cambridge University. I also have an MA in International Political Economy from King's College London and a BA in Politics from the University of Nottingham.
I am an experienced, qualified teacher and tutor of 20+ years. I am educated to master's level and have expereince teaching and tutoring primary and preparatory school pupils (ages 6 - 13). I can provide home learning support in all primary subjects as well as specialist English tuition. I have had success preparing pupils for SATs and entrance examinations for independent schools, particularly in Cambridge, (United Kingdom), though I am also familiar with Cheltenham schools. I tailor sessions to the individual child's interests and needs, and work with pupils and parents to meet their desired goals, whether these be to build confidence, to develop creativty or to begin entrance exam preparation in earnest. I usually set a short piece of homework at the end of each session and review this with the pupil in the following session.
I am currently working only online via Skype and Zoom to deliver lessons but will also consider other mutually agreeable, secure platforms.
My basic rate is £30 per hour but this may be adjusted up to £35 or down to £25 depending upon the age and number of students, the work involved and any fees charged to me to facilitate tutoring.
Return to School or Transition Support - I can provide educational support for children returning to school in September after a significant time out of a formal educational environment. I can also support those children making important transitions between key stages or who are adjusting to the pace of work in a new school.
Manuscripts and dissertations (master's level) - I offer a proof-reading (typing, spelling and punctuation) and basic editing (grammar, consistency and clarity) service and quote for this on an individual basis.
SCIENCE COURSES - I'd like to recommend the highly successful and talented 'Andrew B'. Contact him via intensivegcsecourses.com. Please see my gallery for his up to date group and 1:1 course list.
Most of my work comes to me by word-of-mouth recommendation but in April 2020 I also created this page on TutorExtra and so currently have only one review.
I can be easily and quickly contacted via this site or by email: email@example.com. Please simply send me a message if you'd like to find out more. I'm very happy to discuss an arrangement that will work well for you.
Raising the academic attainment of students has been a deep passion and successful achievement - as a founding former headteacher of a school for 4- 16-year-olds (ten years), a teacher, and a tutor. I have recent English teaching experience at a school (and remotely), in addition to marking GCSE English Language and literature papers. Therefore I am at ease in teaching both key stages three and four students. Over a ten-year period, 98% of my tutees have gained entry into the elite Grammar Schools (a few students gaining scholarships each year too). During the last two years, 97% of my English Language tutees have achieved levels 7-9 in GCSE English Language and 96% in GCSE English Literature.
I am well resourced in teaching face to face or online. An initial consultation with parents, the tutee, in addition to a view of the school reports enables me to gather necessary information about each student. Importantly, the tutorials enable me to get first-hand knowledge of each student enabling me to plan my lessons for the individual.
I look forward to working with you to raise the attainment of your child.
My expertise has been in preparing many students for GCSE English /English Literature as well as A Level standard. I also currently mark as an examiner for AQA at GCSE level so have an excellent grasp of how students can gain greater marks in the exam.
I am currently using Facetime and Zoom to teach my tutees but I would usually teach at my house. I was an ice skating professional and teacher and then did a degree and a teaching certificate. I have been in my current day-time job teaching in a sixth form college since 1989. I tutor English Language, English Literature, Drama, Languages, Dance, Performing Arts and Maths. I attended Tiffin Girls' Grammar when I was young. I prepare tutees for 11+ and entrance exams. I am a senior examiner, a moderator and a Lead Verifier. I have co-authored 5 text books.
I am an English teacher and tutor, with over 15 years teaching and tutoring experience, particularly in preparing students for success in GCSE and A-level English Language and Literature. I have taught in 11-18 secondary schools, a sixth form college, an FE college and in independent schools, where I have coached IB and ESL learners. I am an A-level English Literature examiner, having taught both A-level English Literature and A-level English Language extensively.
Currently, all my tutoring is done online. I use Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet and Google Classroom to teach my students, depending on the learner's preference. These platforms enable us to chat face to face via video link and give me the ability to share my screen and whiteboard. On Google Classroom, I set homework or assignments, providing my students with feedback and additional resources they would not usually receive with a regular tutoring session. Each student will have their own login for Google Classroom and resources will be tailored and personal to them.
Many of my students work on developing their knowledge, skills and confidence for GCSE and A-level English Language and Literature. I also teach exam preparation and intensive revision sessions during exam periods. I plan short or long-term courses to meet with students’ needs.
As a Head of the Languages Department and Primary and Secondary Teacher in a school in Leighton Buzzard for over 10 years, I believe I am the right language tutor for you!
I'm fluent in Spanish, ( my native language) French, and English and have spent many years teaching and studying languages. I completed a bachelor's degree in Spanish and English at Manchester/ALmeria University (2008) and studied Spanish and English Literature in school (GCSE and A-Level) so I know how daunting grammar can sometimes feel and how stressful language/literature exams can be... but also how great it feels when you finally start getting it!
On the language side of things, I can help you with your writing, listening, speaking, grammar, and exam technique. I can help you with conversational skills if you're just looking to go traveling or make Spanish/French friends.
On the literature side of things, a large part of my degree was literature-based, so I would be very happy to help any Literature students if you are struggling with the subject.
If you're in school and really want to get an A/A* (7/8/9), I can make sure you achieve your goal. Whatever your current grade, an A/ A*/7/8/9 is achievable. I have taught these exams for many years so I know how they work and how you can do well in them. We will work closely with the syllabus and go through some secrets of exam technique to make sure you get a top grade.
Alternatively, if you're wanting to learn languages for travel or business purposes (or just for fun!) we can tailor the lessons 100% to suit your needs. I also teach courses to adults from beginners to advanced and I always tailored to each student's need. I also teach English to foreigners to achieve the Cambridge Examinations ( A1 to C1).
I effectively deliver and plan online outstanding lessons and the feedback that I have received from parents, pupils, and adult learners have always been very stimulating. I strongly believe in the student centered-approach as always shown in my lesson plans. I believe that all students are individuals with very specific needs so differentiation has always been at the forefront of my teaching practice. I find it very important to address any students’ needs in order to get the best potential out of every single student. I am successful in establishing high expectations of behavior in the classroom whilst still developing positive relationships with my classes.
I love online teaching as well as face to face. I have been doing online experience for the last 5 years and I have helped most of my students to achieve an excellent language level. I use Google Meets, Google Classroom, or even Skype for online teaching. I generally send and post great, fun, and genuine resources so that the student can access them easily and successfully. There are so many fun online resources that I could provide you to enhance your language skills, especially in Speaking; what a great way to speak the language with a native speaker! You will also gain a broad cultural awareness and your fluency and pronunciation will speed up!
Contact me and ask what it is that you need and I will make sure you will get the best of your language skills!
On the other hand, I am a 200hr yoga certified instructor for the last 2 years and I can give you online 1-1 lessons from beginners to more advanced practitioners. I can also give the online yoga class via zoom to you and your whole family! If you have children, you will be glad to know that I have trained to teach kids yoga and I have been organizing yoga workshops in primary and secondary schools.
Fully qualified English Teacher, I have worked in secondary schools since 2005 including Pupil Referral Units. I am also a qualified SENDCo. I still teach in a school part-time and tutor alongside this. I run evening GCSE workshops for a maximum of five students at a cheaper rate of £15 per hour (£30 in total for the two hour session). I also tutor 1:1 and have vacancies during the day.
I am an enthusaistic educator who can offer highly personalised online tutoring. I am currently in my fourth year of teaching and my specialisms are English and media studies. I enjoy adapting my teaching and tutoring to match the pupil in front of me and to adjust my teaching style to suit the learner and can provide high quality tutoring particularly for those pupils preparing for GCSEs or the move up to A Level. I have experience in exam marking which I believe has helped me become proficient in what skills a pupil needs to hone these are transerfable to whichever phase of learning you are currently at. Contact me if you have any questions and I am happy to set up an initial lesson to see if my style is compatible to your needs.

Lorna Hosler (Executive Director, Story Door)
I am a highly experienced teacher in English Language and Literature, from KS3 to A level, with not only a proven track record of individual achievement with my own students but also at whole school level as a senior leader, where I have successfully led three failing English departments to outstanding status. My experience is in teaching to the AQA and Edexcel examinations but I am more than well-equipped to teach other boards. Over the last 20 years, I have experienced several Ofsted inspections where my sustained outstanding practice as a classroom teacher, middle and senior leader has been recognised as influential to the successful outcomes of the school. I strongly believe that all students have a special educational need and I know with the correct support and challenge that I will provide, learners will be able to achieve or overachieve through self-belief, confidence and resilience, which is essential for exam success and for lifelong learning.
I am a qualified English Literature and Language teacher and Teach First ambassador, specialising in secondary schools (years 7-13), since 2012, and prep schools (years 4-8) since 2018. I also teach mathematics up to and including Upper KS2: Long Division, Common Factors, Common Multiples, Prime Numbers, Mental Calculations, Square and Cube Numbers and more for that Key Stage.
I have been tutoring one-to-one since 2015 and found, since the 2020 lockdown, that tutoring online can be just as beneficial if not better for several reasons: no travel for either party; shared resources online rather than requiring a printer, therefore saving paper; allowance for different ways of communicating rather than just speech - for example, silent discussions through typed notes that can be edited, saved and stored immediately - which is especially beneficial for students with speech impairments or those who communicate better through writing.
I have been working for a home-education group in the woods near to where I live since September 2019 and have continued to learn and explore the importance of creativity, immersion in a task and a level of autonomy on a student's learning path. I aim to reproduce what I have learnt in my years of experience to offer online tutoring lessons for both individuals and groups.
My experience spans from working in one of the most poverty-stricken provinces in Buenos Aires in 2010 as an English tutor for disadvantaged children, to working as the private tutor for my school's Sheikh's son in Qatar during my three years working in a British international school out there. (2015-2018.) I am interested in all people from all walks of life and all educational backgrounds.
If you think I could help you / your child in their education, please get in touch. I am also a writer and assistant reader for Firewords magazine in my spare time. My subject is my life.

I am a friendly, dedicated, and proven Outstanding practitioner. I have been helping students maximise their potential in English for seven years in Good and Outstanding schools in Nottingham, and also in International Private Schools - which was a lot of fun!

I am currently teaching up to GCSE level in an Outstanding school here in Nottingham.
I have taught KS3 & KS4/GCSE English Language, KS3 & KS4/GCSE English Literature, and A Level English Literature, with 83% of students achieving Grade 5 and above
Some of my students have achieved two full number grades above their predictions!
I have been an examiner for AQA (GCSE English Literature) for the past three years, which means I have read thousands and thousands of student essays and know exactly which skills exam boards are looking for.
I have tutored privately and supported students from Primary to PhD level since 2009.
I also have a TEFL qualification at Distinction level and International experience, which might help you if English is not your first language.
My teaching style is creative, effective, and will help you to see the value in English as you develop confidence in your own ability and perspective.
Neil has more than thirty years' experience as an English teacher, headteacher and university lecturer, and has taught in schools and universities around the world. He says: “I really love the quirky beauty of the English language and its literature – and particularly enjoy sharing this passion with my students. ”
My main experience is in KS2 (Years 4, 5 and 6) but am qualified for the whole Primary age range, 5- 11 years. In my experience as a Teacher, I have taught children with Dyslexia, children with Autism, children with Aspergers, children with social and emotional needs and looked after children.
My approach is very child centered. I look at celebrating the positives first and then gradually working through the harder bits, all at the child's pace, with a view to plugging any gaps so the child can celebrate success in their learning.
I teach in many different ways to appeal to the different learning styles (auditory, visual and kinaesthetic) and believe it is important to give the child a meaningful context to their learning (i. e relate it to everyday life).

Having taught first for five years in Swakeley's School, an excellent comprehensive school in Hillingdon, and then spent the last 10 years teaching at the excellent St Mary's School for Girls in Gerrards Cross, I have gathered a huge amount of experience teaching both large and small groups, and, particularly at A Level, tutoring small groups of between 2-8 students.
I love communicating my passion for reading, for literature, for fluent and accurate written communication and for the power of words and other media to inform, educate and entertain us, and watching young people appreciate that power and want to emulate it themselves.
Recently I have enjoyed teaching and tutoring online via Teams and Zoom, building up a whole host of new skills and finding the joy of enabling young people to learn just as (or even more) effectively from home as they have done in a school environment. The power of one-to-one teaching should not be underestimated - a huge amount can be achieved with this close attention to the needs of an individual.

Formerly Head of English at two leading independent schools, Lorraine has a track record of enabling her students to achieve consistently excellent results (eg. 2017/18: 89% A*-B at A level & 60% A*/A GCSE).
At the core of Dalloway Tutors is a passionate belief that with the right approach all young people can achieve more than they imagined. In the past five years, six of Lorraine’s students secured places to read English at Oxbridge.
Lorraine has lived in rural Wiltshire most of her adult life. She has three grown-up children, two of whom are also English Teachers.
I am a qualified teacher of English (GCSE and A-level) and Media working at a secondary school for the past two years. I am proud to work at a school which is ranked as the highest performing secondary school for progress in North Lincolnshire, Doncaster and Gainsborough for two years running and 8th nationally!
Working alongside an exceptional English team—who have moulded me into the teacher I am today—I have been actively involved in the planning for many exciting opportunities for children of all backgrounds and contexts to ensure they are stimulated, interested and making maximum progress. My NQT year and ITT placements during my training year have provided me with a variety of challenges, circumstances and experiences in which I have gained invaluable experience and skills, such as teaching A-level English, KS3 and KS4 English and Media, planning and team planning for lessons, split year group teaching and developing a wide range of assessment opportunities. Furthermore, I have gained skills in developing effective and constructive relationships with children in a variety of difficult contexts—personal, social and economic—and have established relationships with the hardest to reach pupils, equipping them with the confidence and belief to succeed (a principle which I hold as imperative to learner success). On the other hand, I have also had experience and success stimulating and challenging exceptionally able students in all secondary key stages right up to A-level. I currently teach a range of ability groups, from NSR (not secondary ready) right up to KS3 top set and A-level (most of whom achieved a Level 8 and above at GCSE). When teaching the highest ability students, some of whom are aspiring Oxbridge candidates, encouraging intellectual curiosity and scholarship is especially paramount and constitutes a crucial aspect of my teaching approach and philosophy—although standards are, of course, kept consistently high for all learners.
Teaching and Tutoring Approach
My teaching philosophy centres on cultivating a safe, challenging and stimulating environment for every young person. Not only this, but I promote an environment where all learners are confident, supportive and tolerant of each other's views. Moreover, building learner confidence and instilling a mentality that it is OK to make mistakes on top of promoting a general love of learning is integral to who I am as a teacher.
A chief aim of mine is always to ignite the intellectual curiosity of all students, as this is a prerequisite for any and all learning. English is a wonderful subject with unparalleled distinct benefits, and all content can be presented to students in a way that appeals and resonates with them. I believe English to be the only subject that can successfully hold a mirror up to the world and enlighten us all on the complexities of the human condition. It is much more than a subject where you just “sit and write loads” until your hand starts to cramp up, and I always try to convey and transmit that enthusiasm and love for the subject to all my learners.
Although my teaching is geared towards equipping students with the knowledge and practical skills to excel in their examinations, through rigorous instruction, assessment, retrieval and consolidation, all in line with the specific requirements of the exam board, I have never been the archetypal 'strict' teacher. I have high expectations for all learners, but I am extremely patient and adaptive to all students, as we are all complex beings who learn through different styles and at varying rates. Beyond this, I like to get to know all of my students and ensure that they feel safe, secure and confident. I believe that building good relationships with all students is imperative to learner success, and it is with this in mind that I strive to take the feelings and concerns of all students into account every step of the way and put the effort into them as people, not just as learners.

I started off volunteering in a nursery in Cambridge and decided this age group definitely wasn't for me. When I finished my degree in Sociology I returned to working in a school but this time a middle school and it is here where I realised this was the career for me. I was much better with older students (not toddlers) and thoroughly enjoyed my time mainy working with Year 5, 6, 7 and 8. After a year and a half I went to Oxford Brookes University to get my PGCE Teacher Qualification and went from there. I have now worked in a large number of schools and met so many wonderful staff and students. I did some tutoring during my first pregnancy and my highly dyslexic student gained a Grade B at A level English Literature. I was most pleased. I look forward to more future students getting great results.
