Raising the academic attainment of students has been a deep passion and successful achievement - as a former Founding Principal of a school for 4- 16-year-olds, a current practising English teacher, and a tutor. I am currently teaching English on a full-time basis and therefore have up-to-date knowledge in English Language and Literature. I have significant experience teaching remotely. In addition, I have extensive experience in marking GCSE English Language and literature papers. Over ten years, 98% of my tutees have entered elite grammar schools (a few students have gained scholarships each year, too). During the last two years, 97% of my English Language tutees have achieved levels 7-9 in GCSE English Language and 96% levels 7-9 in GCSE English Literature.
I am well-resourced in teaching face-to-face or online. I'm now in my fifth year as a newly qualified primary school teacher at the Ridgeway Primary school in Whitely, Reading. I have mainly taught across Key Stage 2 but have some experience in Key stage 1. Hello there,
I am a Spanish and English Graduate from the Russell Group University of Leeds with over 3 years tutoring experience. This began with a mixture of guided reading coaching, teacher shadowing and teaching EFL tutoring in Madrid for two consecutive summers. Here I was entrusted with independently researching and collating my own lesson plans to markedly raise the linguistic level of nine-year-old Alejandro. Within a week, Alejandro could form the second and third conditional clauses in English, a high-level requirement for a student of his age. Personally, this taught me that flexibility is paramount in engaging students and improving their confidence; there is no one-size-fits-all method to tutoring.
I currently provide professional online GCSE tuition in English Literature and Spanish for “Tutortoo”. Although I am accustomed to teaching individual pupils, I am also regularly entrusted to teach large groups of 30+ with the company “Elite Medics”. I have been teaching English for 25 years to various age groups coming from various ethnic backgrounds and driven by various reasons: from primary kids to post-graduate students. I am very empathetic and student-oriented. I have taught General English, ESP (English for Specific Purposes), English Linguistics, GCSE, EFL, ESOL; I am also a Cambridge Speaking Examiner for YLE, KET, PET, FCE and CAE. Although for more than 15 years I was mainly and heavily involved in teaching various aspects of English at a university level, I never lost touch with the secondary teaching in a permanent effort to keep myself in the loop in terms of teaching methodology. I have been teaching as a private tutor in the private education sector independently and through agencies across Hampshire for over fifteen years. I tutor full time and this is my business and full time career. Therefore, unlike many teachers who do a few private lessons here and there, I am fully committed and can spend all of my time preparing lessons and focusing on just my private students. I always offer an initial assessment before sessions commence so that I can get a general idea of how I can help the student, and for the student to see whether they like my teaching style. After the assessment, lessons are carefully planned and prepared to meet each individual's needs/requirements. Continual support via e mail is offered (especially for those special cases like exam times, which as we all know can be very stressful for the parent and the student.)
