As an experienced teacher with over 12 years experience in both the state and independent sector, I am able to provide support with English Language or English Literature. I have prepared pupils for AQA GCSE, WJEC GCSE and also the IGCSE examinations.
In addition, I have also taught both English Language and English Literature at A level and I have worked as an examiner for A level Literature. I can provide targeted support with A level coursework or examination components.
Furthermore, as the Key Stage 3 English coordinator in my school, I have an excellent knowledge of the skills required in Year 7, Year 8, and Year 9.
I can offer short-term or long-term courses to help your child achieve their goals.
Do get in touch if you would like more information about my experience or if you would like to talk about your child's specific targets. I look forward to hearing from you!

About my lessons:
To begin I like to dive into my students strengths and weakness in the subject area to gain a better idea of how to cater my lessons in a way that would best benefit my students time .I then personalise lessons around my students to hit specific target areas, looking at how to meet exam board objectives, going over how to structure answers to meet top band and then doing practice exam questions. I also implement active recall each week to continually reinforce my student memory and go back over past material .Practice exam questions and active recall have been proved to be one of the most effective ways to retain information and are key in achieving higher grades. And to end each session off I give a student a small, manageable task to complete before our next session to further consolidate their understanding.
Why I tutor:
I tutor because I want to teach students what they can achieve with the power of English and to share my love for the subject with them, as well as helping someone to achieve to their higher potential.

I’ve been teaching now for 25+ years. During that time I’ve taught the whole age and ability range from age 11 to A level. Since 2011 I have been tutoring one to one and also small groups. So far all of my students have achieved their required grades.
I have taught in schools and colleges at home as well as abroad. I am still enthusiastic and able to tailor my lessons to suit all individuals, including those with extra educational needs. In my home I have a designated teaching room where I have all my resources too. As long as the student is within a reasonable distance I would be happy to travel.
As well as my vast teaching experience, I also write. My work has been published in The Guardian, The Times Educational Supplement and some online publications. I have also had a novel published - in 2014.

Having worked within Additional Educational Needs at Alderwasley (with A level Politics and GCSE History and Citizenship students); City and Guilds English and Maths at both Red Tape and Sheaf Training; AQA English Language at the SUFC Academy (ah, the enemy!); an EFL tutor at Birkdale; an Edexcel GCSE History examiner and privately in the subject areas of History, Politics, Drama and English Literature, and a spell at both Low Edges and Atwood Primary with many a colourful unicorn, I feel my abilities have been sufficiently honed to provide an insightful, compassionate and dedicated individual, who, not only loves his disciplines and the thrill of communicating, but does so with a sense of humour that only years of being a SWFC fan and Labour voter can bring. Moreover, my experience of performing has equipped me with the talent to convey information with erudition and intelligence. Incidentally, some of my plays have been produced in Sheffield, Leeds and London with the good folk of Leeds having had the equal good fortune of witnessing me grapple with musical theatre.

I would love to help other children going through GCSE's and SAT's and to boost their confidence. I hope to make children realise that with the right mindset, one that they realise if they work hard, they can do it and achieve good results. As someone who has just finished their GCSE's, the subjects are very much fresh in my mind. I would love to use any tips and tricks in which I have been taught that may differ to any others they have been given and to help them understand more.

My name is Maddy and I have been a teacher since 2014. I am a happy, fun and lively individual who loves to spend time with my family but mainly, my adorable golden retriever Lola. (Photo on my profile)
I have tutored both Maths and English from reception age all the way up to GCSE in maths and Year 6 SATS in English. I tailor my lesson to suit the child and always strive to bring fun to the lessons, as I believe this encourages the children to learn. I have a wealth of experience teaching 1:1 and in groups. I am confident differentiating work for different children even in small groups.
I am a people person and love forming relationships with people and trying to bring out their best qualities.
i currently work at a school in Nottingham and teach Year 4.

Studying both the English Language, Literature and Drama at A-Level has helped me gain critical analysis, research, and essay-writing skills. Studying Drama has had a huge impact on my life. For our devised performance, we decided to concentrate on women and how they are degraded and disrespected. Our piece was dedicated to women killed due to male violence. Drama has given me the skills for teaching as it has taught me how to deal well with ever-changing circumstances, teamwork, and keep myself and others motivated. Not everything always goes according to plan; therefore, being able to adapt to different situations is highly useful. I believe that keeping motivated is vital in education; when someone does not have any motivation, it can take a toll on others around them, too. I have a positive personality that can captivate individuals effectively while maintaining a professional manner. I was a part of the RAFAC for 4 years, encouraging me to strive for perfection. During these years, I completed several coa singer and leader, devising myurses, including leadership, health and safety, first aid, cyber and radio and DofE; these have all helped me to learn valuable life skills such as teamwork, mental agility, and the importance of being a respectful, upstanding member of the community.

I have experience supporting students both formally and informally, helping them understand challenging topics and improve their confidence in subjects like Maths and English and sciences. I’ve found that I really enjoy breaking down complex ideas into simpler steps and seeing the progress students make over time. Tutoring has shown me how important patience, clear communication, and encouragement are in helping learners succeed. I want to be a tutor because I’m passionate about education and enjoy making a positive impact on others. It’s rewarding to help students not only achieve better results, but also believe in their own abilities.
