I have 14 years of teaching experience in schools in three different countries, England, The Netherlands and Sweden. I have seen how education can be offered in different ways and what advantages this has for students. I have taught various subjects throughout different key stages (maths, physics and computer science) and try to bring these subjects to life by making lessons as interactive as possible, encouraging students to discuss and develop their own ideas and to do further research. Currently I teach at a state school in London and I do online tutoring sessions with two of my former students. By using modern digital tools, I aim to make mathematics and physics even more exciting inside and outside the classroom. For example, when teaching the topics of geometry and probability, I tell my students about fractals and Plato. When I teach my students about sequences and quadratics, I introduce my students to chaos theory. When I teach my students about periodicity I introduce them to making music loops. Because of my Astrophysics background, I know how to introduce my students to the various wonders of the Universe and the quantum world. I found my students were really engaged with this hands-on and proactive way of learning. In addition, I introduce my students to programming and exciting Youtube channels to do with maths and science to maximise engagement and curiosity. I aim to facilitate a learning environment where students feel comfortable to share ideas, make mistakes, and to learn from these. In order to prepare my students for assessments and examinations I also turn to more traditional methods like past exam papers, textbooks, Hegarty, Sparx, and customised self-developed learning material. I use various methods to monitor my students' motivation and academic progression and am passionate about making sure each of them reaches their full potential. |
