I have experience teaching both online and face to face for GCSE and A level Biology. I like to tailor lessons to the student and their learning needs- I can suggest topics but I am equally happy to be guided by them if there is something they want to cover. I like to involve the student in the learning process. I will start off by asking students to tell me what they know before building on it, this way i can focus more on what the student doesn't already know or understand. I take a patient and understanding approach with students to help them feel relaxed in sessions.
What lessons are like is variable. For topics that may be new for the student, I would spend most of the lesson teaching them the subject matter. For topics that they may know a bit, I can test their understanding or can help with practice questions. If it's closer to exam time, then either going over past papers in the lesson, or if they attempt one in their own time then I can go over anything they didn't understand, or help them revise any subject that they want to at the time. Overall I think this tailored approach helps students feel like their lessons are useful and hopefully they can enjoy them too!

A Level Chemistry Tuition
I was a very successful Head of Department and since retirement I have been giving private lessons to students in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, either in their own home or from my home in Loscoe, near Heanor and am also available to provide online tuition via WhatsApp to students located anywhere in the world.
I tutor both home educated and school children and am familiar with all the major syllabi, such as Nuffield, Edexcel and AQA.
I tutor Chemistry up to 'A' Level and Science to GCSE / SATs level and I like to make the sessions both enjoyable and challenging, believing that creating a relaxed, fun learning environment aids the learning process.
As part of the chemistry classes I include techniques for achieving good results in your exam, such as revision techniques and the best approach when answering exam questions.

I am a very dedicated teacher who specialises in biology but am confident in all three sciences.
I aim to make learning as engaging as possible for all abilities.
I think that my enthusiasm for the subject comes across in my teaching, especially in a one to one setting.
I currently use the AQA specification but am very familiar with Edexcel also.
I love teaching and I love tutoring as it allows more focus on specific areas as well as identifying the child’s areas of strength and weakness.
I strive to make all of science accessible and enjoyable for students, relating topics to real life. I have taught a range of abilities and SEN needs while at my current school while also leading the STEM program, aiming to engage all students.

I hold a PhD from Imperial College London. have a strong academic track record and have led cutting-edge research teams in projects for multinational pharmaceutical and biotech companies including Unilever, GlaxoSmithKline, Zeneca, Novartis and others. I have published scientific research which has been cited over 2200 times in the peer-reviewed literature and I serve on the Editorial Boards of four reputable international scientific journals. I am fascinated by science and maths and I believe my genuine enthusiasm for the fields, combined with my working knowledge, based on years as an active researcher, is evident in my teaching.
I enjoy working with students of varying ages and abilities and take pride in encouraging students to reach their full potential. I am patient and understanding in my approach, which I will adapt to meet the strengths and needs of individual learners.
I have years of experience as a tenured university lecturer where I taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. I have supervised 8 PhD students to successful completion of their thesis. Having interviewed numerous UCAS candidates for degree places, I can also offer advice to hone your personal statement.
Tutoring Experience
Previous A'level results are: 100% A*-C, 85% A*-A, 8% B, 7% C. 100% of students got into their first choice universities and 31% achieved placed in medical school. These grades are representative of the results achieved in previous years. 2023 GCSE results were 100% grades 9-7 from students taking higher level papers and 100% grade 5 from students sitting the foundation level papers (the highest grade they could attain).
I have been a full-time tutor for the past eleven years and I am a past Vice-President of The Tutors' Association, the professional body for the tuition industry. I was elected into this position by members of the tutoring profession. I tutor as a full-time profession.
I am very familiar with all the major examination boards (AQA, OCR, EdExcel, IB, CIE), I have recent school-based teaching experience at secondary level and I am a current and very experienced biology examiner and question setter, which enables me to explain things from "the examiner's perspective"!
I have worked with children with special educational needs such as Asperger Syndrome, autism, ADHD, partial hearing and dyslexia. Having lived and worked abroad for a number of years, I also have experience of working with students for whom English is an additional language.
Tutoring Approach
I offer tuition either online or face-to-face at my home, where I have an area which is free from distractions and all my materials and resources are immediately available to make tuition as effective as possible.
I believe in taking a very individual approach to tutoring, adapting approaches and resources to fit the needs of the individual. Prior to commencing tuition we will agree tuition goals and I will work with these to develop a personalized scheme of learning. During tuition I will monitor student progress and keep records of this so that learning and attainment can be tracked and approaches can be continually adapted to meet the developing needs of the learner.
However, most importantly of all, I believe learning should be fun. I am friendly and approachable and I work hard to ensure students enjoy having tuition, which ultimately will maximize the progress they make.

My approach to tutoring architecture is built on a personalized and hands-on learning experience, emphasizing the understanding of fundamental principles while encouraging creativity and practical application.
Teaching Methodology:
I blend theoretical discussions, practical assignments, and real-world case studies. My sessions are interactive and often involve collaborative design projects and portfolio reviews. I ensure students gain proficiency in essential software like AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Revit.
Lesson Structure:
Each session typically lasts 60 minutes, beginning with a review of previous lessons, followed by a focused discussion on the day's topic. Hands-on exercises and feedback are key components, facilitating comprehension and skill development.
Qualifications and Experience:
I hold a degree in Architecture and have years of personal professional experience, including mentoring students and young professionals. As the founder of my own architecture company, I bring a practical business perspective to my teaching, covering areas like architectural design, drafting, and portfolio preparation.
Target Audience:
My lessons cater to high school and university students, as well as early-career professionals seeking to enhance their skills or prepare for job applications. Whether you are a beginner or looking to refine your expertise, my classes are tailored to meet a variety of learning needs and help students achieve their goals.

I have been teaching for 13 years, working with a variety of students with different needs. I worked in London, before moving to Nottingham in July 2011. I am currently Head of Social Science and am teaching Psychology AQA and Sociology AQA, both at A level. I have met and trained with cheif examiners, so am confident in helping students to prepare for exams in these subjects. I am also currently an examiner for AQA A Level psychology and have 11 years of experience of marking exam papers which helps me teach students how to answer exam style questions in most precise way.
I have a fresh approach to teaching, making sure my students understand the topic they are studying rather than just memorising the details. Psychology is the study of the real world, and as such, students should be able to link theory to the wider world.
I have conducted online tuition for students who have not been living in the same city as me, but had wanted my expertise and support in learning psychology and sociology. I am a confident user of IT and can utilise online tools to help support students during online tuition sessions.
