About the Trumpet instrument

Trumpets are brass instruments that are usually played in jazz and classical music. Like all other brass instruments trumpets are played by blowing into a mouthpiece. This creates a sound which in turn is controlled by pressing and releasing three valves to project various notes from the bell. Тhe size and dimensions of the mouthpiece usually tend to have the biggest influence on the sound.

Trumpets have a rich history dating as far back as 1500 BC. In the early days they were primarily used for hunting and in battles. They began being used as musical instruments only in 14th-15h century.

Is learning to play the Trumpet difficult?

Trumpets are commonly perceived to be a difficult instrument to master. This is because with most other instruments like guitars, pianos, saxophones, the player provides the power through wind or through kinetic energy which vibrates something else and that produces the sound. On the other hand, trumpet players provide the wind power and the vibration themselves with their lips. This makes things difficult as the trumpet is a higher instrument than most other brass instruments like the tuba and the trombone. High notes are particularly hard to hit and it takes a lot of practice and patience to master them.

Furthermore, like all other brass instruments, new players will have to practice breath control to be able to master it. However, none of this should deter you from learning the trumpet. As with any other instrument, starting out will be difficult but as you practice you’ll slowly but surely improve.

The key to learning an instrument is setting clear goals and going at your own pace. Not everyone wants to become a professional musician and perform at concerts, so decide what you want to achieve and start pursuing it.

How old do you need to be to start playing the Trumpet?

As with many other instruments, there isn’t a set age that makes it better to start. It all depends on the child or the person. Some children can start learning as young as 5, but on average it would probably be a bit easier for children around the age of 8. By then not only have they grown up physically which will allow for easier breath control, but children at that age also have better general understanding of what they are doing and they’ll be able to learn quicker.

At the end of the day, age doesn’t really matter. The most important thing is that your child has an interest in the instrument and wants to learn.
