Hello! My name is Tamara and I am a primary teacher from Toronto, Canada. I have been living and teaching in the UK since 2015. I have taught Foundation Stage, Year 1, Year 2, Year 4/5 as well as covered across all other year groups in KS2. I also have experience teaching Functional Skills Maths to adults 16-21. Alongside teaching, I have been tutoring for the past 8 years across all primary year groups as well as secondary year groups. I absolutely love teaching and believe that children learn best when their interests are considered. I tailor my tuition to each child, using their interests and their academic and emotional needs to plan a program that works for them. I have worked with children with special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and Dyslexia.
After 21 years in a primary school classroom I became disillusioned with the school system. I was being told to teach in a way that didn't suit me but more importantly, didn't suit some of my pupils. A 'one size fits all' approach wasn't working and I became as frustrated as my pupils. Then the pandemic hit and the couple of hours after school tuition I had been doing became a full time job. My pupils flourished, made great progress, their confidence grew and I felt like myself again. I therefore started Pipkin Tuition and came out of school for good. Since then I've helped lots of children achieve their potential with smiles on their faces. I help with general concerns and progress across the primary age range, undertake SATs, 7 + and 11+ preparation and have recently helped pupils predicted 3s or 4s to pass their Maths GCSE. All my sessions take place via Zoom, focussing on building confidence and fluency before moving on to looking at the knowledge and skills required by the National Curriculum.

I am a committed, enthusiastic and friendly tutor/mentor with 30 years of teaching experience and up to date knowledge of teaching methods. Since graduating from the University or Reading in 1992, I have taught in a variety of Norfolk schools - both primary and secondary (including an American school here in the U. K.). I have a proven track record of improving pupil achievement in maths and am able to offer tailor-made tuition to meet individual pupil needs - whether the student is struggling to keep up at school, developing confidence or preparing for exams.
Home Educated children I am happy to work with home educators and their children. As home educating families often have very individual requirements, please get in contact if you would like to discuss options for daytime sessions. I also offer discounts for home educated students taking lessons during school hours (9am-3pm) on weekdays in term-time. Please contact me for details.

I have considerable experience teaching in the UK and in various other countries around the world within Africa, Asia and the Caribbean in a variety of subjects from A Level to Key Stage 1. Most of my teaching has been at Key Stages 4 and 5 in Secondary Schools in the UK but I have also taught Primary children in preparation for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 SATs. I am a very passionate educator and believe in the importance of inspiring young people to develop a love of learning. Pupils are always encouraged to ask questions about Mathematics in general so that their understanding is at the highest possible level.
I started tutoring professionally during the first COVID lockdown in England, since then I have taught groups of 30, but mostly 1-on-1 sessions, ranging from KS2 SATS preparation all the way up to A Level Further Maths with a student aiming to apply to Cambridge Univeristy for Mathematics.
I love seeing that moment of realisation, that Eureka moment, when the topic just clicks for the student. Seeing the progress pupils make during their sessions, as well as over time is just an amazing feeling.
