I’m a passionate and experienced science and Maths teacher with over 15 years of teaching Maths and Science at KS3 and Science GCSE. I’ve worked as a Head of Science and currently lead as a practitioner and examiner, which gives me a detailed understanding of how to unlock student success across different exam boards. I care deeply about helping young people achieve their goals—whether that’s gaining confidence in class, securing a pass, or reaching for a top grade. My mission is simple: to make science enjoyable, accessible, and something every student can feel proud of mastering.
Whether you're aiming for a grade 9 or working hard to secure that all-important pass, my tutoring is tailored to meet you where you are and help you move forward. I’ve supported students from all backgrounds—many from grammar schools with high aspirations, and just as many who have struggled with motivation or confidence. I bring empathy, patience, and energy to every session. My experience in mainstream schools means I understand the unique needs of neurodivergent learners, and I create a safe, supportive space where everyone can thrive. I believe in every student’s potential, and nothing motivates me more than seeing learners grow, overcome challenges, and succeed.
My sessions are dynamic, engaging, and designed to make learning stick. Rooted in evidence-based strategies, I use tools like retrieval practice, live modelling, word etymology, and vocabulary breakdowns to build understanding in a memorable and meaningful way. Science is a subject full of wonder, and I aim to bring that to life—whether through real-world connections, interactive techniques, or simply helping students see complex ideas in a new, clearer light. My approach is personalised, flexible, and always focused on helping you feel confident, capable, and ready to succeed in your exams—and beyond.

I'm Lorna - originally from Yorkshire, I've been living in Merseyside with my husband and two rescue greyhounds for nearly 10 years. University brought me to Liverpool, studying Biological Sciences back in 2012. I started out as a tutor when I graduated in 2015, first with A-Level Biology and then GCSE Science. I trained to teach a couple of years after that and have been doing both teaching and tutoring ever since.
Tutoring sessions with me give you a space to get to grips with Science. It's about building confidence. Whether you just want more practice, you didn't understand it in the classroom or you had a supply teacher for that lesson, my job is to help you succeed (and answer all the questions you didn't want to answer in class). As a teacher I understand how hard it can be to learn in a busy classroom, as a tutor I am here to give you that time and support. My sessions are about recalling previous knowledge, checking your understanding and getting your exam technique spot on. Over the last 10 years I've tutored across Yorkshire, Merseyside and Cheshire and I'm so proud of the excellent results of my past students. Whether you're aiming for 9s, pushing that 4 to a 5 or want to brush up on your skills before you start your GCSEs, tutoring really is for anyone! I welcome all abilities and year groups. We go at your pace with a tutoring curriculum tailored to you.
If you are interested please contact me, I always start with a free 15 minute introductory call with you/your child to see where they are at and to discuss what I offer as a tutor.

Hello! I'm Philippa an experienced and very patient tutor specializing in a diverse range of subjects: English, History, Archaeology, Anthropology, Science, and Biology, for students from Year 1 through to University level. My comprehensive academic background includes Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Forensic Anthropology from Liverpool John Moores University, providing me with a robust analytical foundation and a deep understanding of scientific principles, historical context, and human studies.
I believe in creating a supportive and encouraging learning environment where every student feels comfortable and empowered. My teaching philosophy is centered on building genuine understanding and confidence, rather than just memorization. I am particularly proud of my experience working with students with dyslexia; I employ tailored, multi-sensory approaches and adaptive strategies to make learning accessible, engaging, and effective for those with specific learning needs. I understand the unique challenges and strengths that come with dyslexia and am committed to helping students find their most effective learning pathways.
Whether you need help breaking down complex historical events, understanding intricate scientific concepts, improving your English essay writing, or delving into archaeological theories, I personalize each lesson to suit your individual learning style and academic goals. My aim is to make challenging topics understandable, enjoyable, and relevant, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills that extend beyond the classroom. I offer flexible online and in person lessons, and I am dedicated to helping you achieve your full academic potential.

My name is Rachael and I am a qualified primary teacher with 15 years’ experience. I have a passion for encouraging a love of learning. I believe that if a child enjoys what they are learning then they will be motivated to listen, participate and ultimately achieve. I have a wide variety of experience working with SEND children and I understand that not everyone learns in the same way. Teaching is about adapting your strategies to meet the needs of the individual. As a mum of two children with ASD I fully comprehend the stress and pressures that are put upon parents to engage their children in learning. Therefore, I strive to create an enjoyable learning environment for your child to achieve their full potential and motivate them to want to learn.
In addition to my work with SEND children I have a great deal of experience tutoring children in preparation for their exams, whether that is SATs or the 11+. I taught year 5 and 6 for many years and my subject knowledge is very up to date on exam questions and expectations, particularly in maths and science. Whether it is about building up confidence or honing in those exams techniques I would love to help.
