I am an extremely successful Psychology teacher, and examiner, with 25 years experience. I teach any level. I have taught in very prestigious private schools and also in state education. I am the current Head of Psychology at an excellent school. My students, consistently, acheive within the top 5% in the country. Past students have achieved the top score in the UK at A Level. I am Holly, a tutor in Psychology, Neuroscience, statistics and essay writing. I am currently a PhD student at Manchester Metropolitain university and I have an undergraduate in Psychology and a masters in Neuroscience. I have studied Psychology for six years and chose to specialise in Neuroscience.
My teaching style can vary based on the student but generally a fun, relaxed and proactive approach is what I find works best. I run sessions weekly or biweekly for an hour and am available at any time to answer student’s simpler questions. Depending on the student, there maybe work for the students for so in between sessions. I believe that learning is most nurtured in a honest and judgement free area. Everyone works in different ways and I strive to tailor my teaching to the individual. I used to struggle in my studies, finding myself stuck on how to write academically, concisely and using appropriate structure. I found external help with my studies that gave me invaluable support that I wish to pass on the other students.
I also specialise in quantitative research methods and statistics. I believe that neuroscience is an amazing subject and hope to continue research and leacturing after my PhD! I have experience sitting exams and essay writing/course work and can help with either. These different assessments styles can be tricky to juggle, but with the right framework it can be done! At A-Level I teach according to the AQA exam board for Psychology and statistics. In further education, I teach Psychology and Neuroscience at the undergraduate level and statistics at a masters level. I don’t have much formal teaching experience but I have taught others for a few years now. I do have experience teaching a few others on academic writing and psychology to aid their assessments. For a specific example, I helped a student in International Relations achieve 90/100 after supporting them with shortfalls in academic writing. I helped the student to re-write and edit their assessments and assessment drafts to be more concise, clear and academic. I also have a 5-star rating on Upwork.com (another tutoring website) and have had various clients at various academic stages.

You cannot measure the ability of a fish by watching it climb a tree. I have 12 years experience in private tutoring at both GCSE and A Level in Economics and Business. I am familiar with and an examiner in the Edexcel exam board and AQA.
I have been teaching Economics and Business at GCSE and A Level in a Grammar School since 2013. I introduced GCSE Economics and ran that department successfully, with students achieving outstanding GCSE results significantly above the national average. Tutoring Approach
My sessions focus on establishing a core foundation to build confidence and knowledge. Economics is a hard subject. It is like learning a new language and those initial few weeks can be daunting. Students often get lost in the new terminology introduced in the first couple of weeks and this can be a reason for some students not continuing with the subject. By securing knowledge through a variety of interactive teaching techniques, students gain the confidence to access the more difficult parts of the specification.
As part of your sessions, all resources and materials will be provided. Work will be set as appropriate for you to complete and I will mark it and provide feedback. We will look at core content, exam technique and practice questions. There are many different issues which are likely to impact a student’s exam performance, but notably application of the subject in a wider context, the skills of analysis and evaluation and decoding the exam questions. These areas will be developed within our sessions and my years of experience have enabled me to devise strategies to address such areas successfully.

If you are aiming to achieve a top grade in exams, want to gain a greater understanding of sentences or learn quick strategies for memorising your literature texts, then I can help.
I use lots of films clips and audio to reinforce understanding which students enjoy. I am not a Powerpoint tutor as I feel this isn't teaching but lecturing and that's not my style. I may dip into the odd Powerpoint slide but this will be to support your learning in a purposeful way but I rarely do this. Another difference is I offer weekly homework which is marked with understandable comments. Many parents choose to have this service too as their children often don't have regular or systematically marked homework so it is a way of regularly assessing so I can pick up any issues early.
I also have a TESOL qualification which means I have expert knowledge of English language so can competently teach foreign language students or I can draw on this knowledge to clarify rules of grammar etc. With respect to older students, I frequently teach Academic English ,whether it is helping with dissertations or preparing for IELTS.
My second specialism is Psychology and I teach this from GCSE through to and including Postgraduates as I have a MSc in Psychology. This also supports any other subject I teach as I have a detailed understanding of how memory and learning interact. I prioritise relationship building and trust with students and their caregivers.
I am patient, kind, and incredibly encouraging but have high expectations. I work with students for them to also gain high expectations in themselves. This may happen in the first few sessions or may take a longer period of time depending on the student.
I help students gain high expectations for themselves by initially giving tasks where they are guaranteed success, then celebrating and reflecting on this success and how they were able to use the skills taught and their effort to complete the task. This builds a persons confidence and significantly increases the likelihood of attempting more difficult tasks. This is heavily proven by research (and seen in my classroom daily) known as the “theory of self efficacy” and the “theory of planned behaviour”.
If a person does not believe a task is within their capability, they are incredibly unlikely to even attempt it (No matter how much we believe they can do it).
It is my job to SHOW students they can do it by designing tasks and lessons in a way that they feel challenged finish with pride in their achievements.
When teaching new skills I will show them first, then we will complete a task together, then they will apply the skills independently. I will be constantly assessing as they work independently and provide support where necessary. The ultimate goal is to phase back my support until they are using the taught skills correctly, consistently, confidently and independently.
Lessons will vary depending on students needs. If caregivers want to spend a percentage of the lesson to discuss, that will be agreed upon. If there are specific targets you want me to cover then we can dedicate time for you to tell me these expectations. If you would prefer me to assess your student and gage where the gaps are and plan accordingly, that is also ok.
